Is playing a tar archive with album art and info feasable

Can't we make a Tar archive that embeds an image, any lyrics, and a text file for tags (or archive comments)?

This would make new lossless codecs easier to make, because they would already have the needed archive features.

How easily could tar archives be played in an mp3 player?

Does the open format of tar and the fact that its not compressed help in this?
