Title: Kernel Streaming with ESI Juli@ crashes
Post by: phaidros on 2012-03-16 17:02:31
I've just installed an ESI Juli@ soundcard. I'am using the digital output only. ASIO and WASAPI work fine, but kernel streaming doesn't. First, there is no signal at the digital output, whereas according to the ESI control panel there seems to be some kind of distorted signal at the analogue output. After some seconds of playing, not only foobar but windows crashes, forcing a reboot.

Has anybody encountered a similar problem? Any ideas how I can get kernel streaming running?

I use the latest versions of foobar and the Juli@-drivers and Windows 7 Home Premium.

Using the "foobar2000 has crashed"-dialogue gives me the information that I have installed some faulty components (like HTTP-control and some others). Kernel streaming, however, is not mentioned among them.

IMHO, most probably it's because of some bugs in Juli@ drivers (fb2k itself cannot cause OS crash). Solution: don't use kernel streaming.

The reason that I want to use kernel streaming instead of ASIO is that I want to use the SPDIFER plugin to send a DTS-bitstream to the SPDIF-output. This does not work with ASIO.

I will contact the ESI support. But perhaps there are other user here who encountered the same problem?

I've just tried Kernel Streaming with JRiver Player, and there it works - at least there is a signal at the analogue output and no crash. So it seems to be an issue of fb2k.

BTW, the author of foo_spdifer suggests wasapi output:

Thanks for pointing this out. Yes, changing to WASAPI for playing DTS-Files is an option. For all the rest I prefer ASIO if kernel streaming does not work
