Same Drives with different results

I have a number of different drives and obviously some CDs rip correctly on some machines and not others (depending on the manufacturer). For instance, a disc might be okay ripping on a Sony drive and not a Panasonic.

However, recently I've purchased three drives by the same manufacturer and the same model too. And yet there are still discs that will rip accurately on one drive and not another.

Can anyone explain why that would be?

Chance? You have tried ripping a number of times with each drive?
