ID3 Tagging Question

So I'm rebuilding and repairing my V0 MP3 collection. I have a question about the version of ID3 tag I should embed in my files though. Should I use:
  • ID3v1
  • ID3v2.3
  • Both ID3v1 and ID3v2.3 simultaneously

Could someone please explain the benefits of each version and which I should go with?

Many thanks.

ID3v1 is very basic and limited. Title, artist and album are limited to 30 characters and in addition to those fields it can only save track numer, genre and a short comment. Therefore it is considered outdated by most people.

ID3v2 is the standard tagging format for MP3 and can save almost anything you will ever want or need.

If you do not have a specific reason to include ID3v1 tags (such as an antique MP3 player that doesn't handle ID3v2), I would go for ID3v2 only. If you really need ID3v1, definitely include ID3v2 as well.
