3.5mm Cable Confusion - 2 inputs, 1 output, possible?

I have some JBL computer speakers, not the best quality but my sound card is probably holding them back. It would be cool to be on the computer and listen to my iPod through the speakers. I was looking on monoprice.com for some cables and I think I came up with a solution, would this work:

speaker < male/2xfemale splitter < 6ft male/female < 1ft male/male < iPod
speaker < male/2xfemale splitter < 1ft male/male < computer

this is probably a dumb question 

on a side note, where is a good place to get these cables?

try to find cable in one go, no splitters and stuff.

You can try buying a switch that allows you to select between 2 inputs for a single output. Here's one:
