Why Does Cdex's Ogg Give More Control Over Ecoding

New to this so bear with me regarding the use of proper lingo.
In each of my versions of CDeX and dbPower AMp there are different versions of the OGG encoder. The DBAmp version(20040629) is newer but only allows me to choose -q -1-10, without any decimal points, such as 5.45, 8.22, etc. The CDeX version(20020717) is older but their version allows me to choose 4.55, 7.43, etc.
Is this something i can fix in dbpamp by installing a different OGG.dll file in it's directory or is it just the nature of the DB program?

Doesn't CDex just use whatever Vorbis dll you give it to use (while the default is Vorbis 1.0)?  If so you could just download and place a newer dll for it to use and then encode away with it.

I took the OGG_VORBIS.dll file out of the DBPAMP directory and put it in the CDex and it didn't recognize it. It's wierd, though, becasue the older OGG in CDeX allows me more variables with the decimal points while the newer OGG version in the DBPAMP directory doens't give me the added flexibility.

I would imagine that the actual DLLs have all the flexibility you need, it is just that the dBpowerAMP user interface doesn't let you in on all the options. So you couldn't really fix it, it is in the nature of the program.

You could try and [a href="http://www.rarewares.org/files/ogg/libvorbis1.1.0.zip]download libvorbis 1.1.0[/url] (newest at the moment) from RareWares and try to plug it in to CDex. Note what the library is currently called in the CDeX directory, make a backup of it, then overwrite it with the one you download.

OTOH, if you're ripping from CD's, EAC can use the command-line Vorbis encoder, so you have absolute control over what settings are used. If you're using foobar2000, it can also convert between formats using the CLI encoder.

Hope some of this helps
