Multichannel DVD audio (ac3) --> downmix gets too quiet

I've been using MeGUI to encode some DVDs I have to mkv files with ogg audio.  My problem is the original audio tracks are 3_2ch 384Kbps ac3 files and when I downmix to stereo they always get noticeably more quiet than the original ac3 file.  Can someone recommend a tool that will allow me match the audio level of the original or at the very least apply some gain prior to encoding to vorbis?

Thanks for any advice!

you should check the settings which apply to ac3 Dynamic Range Control in ac3 decoder settings (if there are any, i dont use megui, so i dont know).
