Title: sound quality help
Post by: Crayon on 2004-06-28 06:17:51
for some reason, my the sound quality i get from foobar is very nasty. well, not nasty, just not as crisp and clear compared to itunes.

can someone tell me the plugins they use for foobar, where to get them, and the order they are placed in(i heard somewhere the order of the plugins matter) to get sound quality that rivals itunes?

and i know it's definitely not my imagination making me think that itunes sounds better?

If you hear difference in sound when playing the same song in these two players, it only means you have enabled equalizer or other DSP plugin in foobar or itunes, which makes sound different for you.
Check your settings in both players first very carefully. Post here what sound card do you have, what are playback settings in foobar (output depth, dither etc), what DSP plugins do you have enabled in DSP chain.
I think it's something wrong on your side.

Just tried iTunes sound enhancer now; sounds like nothing more than bass boost + treble boost. If you don't want your music to sound the way it was intended, distorting it with such things is possible in foobar2000 too, using the equalizer

Simply put Equalizer into your list of active DSP plugins and configure it to give a slight bass and treble boost. Like in this critically acclaimed example for such equalizer settings:
