[TOS #8] From: Normalizing ALAC to avoid sound clipping in iPod with E

I'm with R1sky on this: the iPod firmware leaves much to be desired. Combined with a questionable quality change in DAC (from Wolfson to Cirrus), SQ has  only gotten worse for the Classic and touch. At this late date, it remains to be seen whether Apple will ever implement demonstrably better SQ on the iPod. Hope springs eternal, though.

When I have installed Rockbox on my 5th Gen iPod, the same files (MP3, AAC, ALAC) sounded much more musical and compelling. But, and this is a big but, battery life on my 5G suffers terribly with Rockbox. A Classic will fare better, of course, given its better battery life right out of the box.

So, R1sky, give Rockbox a try; it's worth the experiment.
