Thanks for such a good program. I especially like using it on tracks with empty space at the beginning and some album tracks that have junk from the next track at the end of the tune. I use it on Linux via Wine and it still works quite well.
MP3DirectCut is a bloody marvellous thing!
Thanks for such a good program. ... ... ... I use it on Linux via Wine and it still works quite well.
Me too and me too.
A really useful tool. I hadn't known about recent updates, so will catch up. Nice to see that it is under active development.

http://mpesch3.de1.cc/ (http://mpesch3.de1.cc/)
Great prog that I use almost everyday, so many thanks :D
The demuxing the MP4 files is handy but it would be even better if we could remux the edited AAC file(s) back into M4A file(s); maybe by adding an option to perform this (default is off).
Apologies if this isn't the right place to ask for a feature request.
@jaybeee : Indeed. The addition of reading M4a is nice but not so much the fact that each file that you read, it extracts the .aac file and leaves it there, since it is the format in which the program works.
When I've had the need to work with m4a files in mp3directcut, I used the following small script: (it works by dragging the file into it, or by calling it with the full path of the file)
%DIRFFMPEG%\ffmpeg.exe -i %1 -acodec copy -vn %1.aac
echo Waiting for the changes...
pause
%DIRFFMPEG%\ffmpeg.exe -i %1.aac -acodec copy -bsf:a aac_adtstoasc -vn %1.m4a
This intentionally leaves the original and the new file, but the script could delete it if needed. Basically, what the program is doing now is just the first ffmpeg command.
Note: it could also be modified so that it launches the program with the file automatically instead of the pause command:
%DIRMP3DC%\mp3DirectCut.exe %1.aac
Thanks [JAZ], I already have loads of scripts that I wrote to use mp4box &/or ffmpeg to do muxing/remuxing etc work. Nice to know I'm not the only one that has had to do this.
I posted up a script I wrote for using ffmpeg to split an m4a file without having to extract the aac first: clicky (https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,113358.msg933368.html#msg933368); it might be of use to you ;)
mp3DirectCut can join multiple files to a file in its Batch processing, is it possible to do it using command line?

Windows is adamant that it contains a virus. Is there any way around that? Tried a couple download sites.
Then your ISP or your computer is inserting a virus into it. The file I just downloaded from FOSShub, freshly uploaded to Virustotal, registers a 0 out of all scanners.
Thanks, the FOSShub download was successful. Win 10 threw up an "unrecognized app" warning, but did not delete the download as it did with my earlier attempts.
FWIW, this was the previous result:

Same for d/l from MajorGeeks.
LosslessCut is a (better, IMHO) open source alternative:
https://github.com/mifi/lossless-cut
OK, so how do you use LosslessCut to (coarsly) fade an mp3 without re-encoding? Is that more convenient than using mp3directcut to view video files to set cut marks?
Different tools for different tasks, this thread is about one of them and not for spamming the other.
OK, so how do you use LosslessCut to (coarsly) fade an mp3 without re-encoding?
Fading volume CAN'T be lossless AFAIK.
The MP3 format can shift volume in 1.5 dB steps. One can achieve a coarse fading effect by successive 1.5 dB volume changes, and mp3directcut can do that.
Now, what is even the purpose of trying to hijack the mp3directcut thread to peddle some ffmpeg video cutting frontend?

For same reason as above (https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=71172.msg1002541#msg1002541), Win 10 is now blocking download from any of the distribution sites.
