[REQ] foo_infobox built against latest FB2K SDK

Much to my dismay, the last available build of foo_infobox is incompatible with foobar2000 .9.6 on Windows Vista (32-bit Home Premium).  The source is apparently available here, but I'm a total novice when it comes to programming and couldn't hello world my way out of a paper bag.  I would appreciate it if someone could make an updated, compatible build using the latest foobar2000 SDK and post it here.  Many thanks in advance.

There's no source code released AFAIK.
However, I tried to contact the author, He seems to disapper for a while...

Bad news... I emailed the author and he says he's lost the source. So unless anyone wants to clone the plugin, it's lost forever.

It's a shame, this plugin is awesome, as it's way better then the default properties box. Should have become standard a long time ago. It's almost enough to go back and stick with 0.9.5 for the future.

It might be helpful if you could tell people what functionality you refer to. And by the way, people who previously made such statements had never actually figured out what the properties dialog is capable of. So you might want to take a second look.

For me it's not so much functionality as usability. The properties dialog is cumbersome, looks bad and feels bad to use for editing single files. It could be arranged so much better, and infobox had it pretty much perfect.

I was talking about single file editing, and I should have mentioned that probably. I think that the properties dialog is great for editing multiple files at once, and that's what it seems to be geared towards - the expense of being a graceful solution for single files. And because infobox only replaced the properties box for single files, it was pretty much perfect.

I guess you could say infobox looks too technical for the average user, but this is foobar we're talking about

I agree with your points, and I also think that the "other meta fields" interface in the infobox plugin is much more intuitive and the "technical info" box presents the information in a way that seems to be more immediately clear.  I like having everything at a glance rather than tabbing back and forth in the native properties dialogue.  The previous/next part is also helpful for metadata comparison.

I think this discussion will quickly become stuck due to different tastes of what a good properties dialog should look like. I like the current implementation very much as it is generic, flexible and highly usuable for me. It shows me exactly the tags I need (due to Preferences > Advanced > Display > Properties Dialog):



Infobox nicely presents the "standard" fields, but fails when it comes to "other meta fields" which are suddenly much less easier to access and edit.

So all that is needed is infobox's prev/next and at-a-glance functionality (not to mention the mp3 padding calculation) and the default Properties' default (yet customisable) set of metadata fields.

No. If you want to edit tags of multiple tracks, you can do it more efficiently by just selecting them all and opening the Properties dialog for them.

For example, you can double-click or select Edit from the menu to edit fields across multiple tracks:

Ah, that's something that definitely should be more obvious in the Properties window. Nevertheless, I stand corrected, and I'm sorry for harping on that.

Still will be nice to have the at-a-glance, no-need-to-switch-tabs functionality that Infobox provided. Is there already an undisclosed option for that?

If there was some usable (preferably offline and contextual) documentation, perhaps people wouldn't make stupid/useless requests for functions that are already there.

That's definitely the most important part that has to be done, now that the whole user interface is redesigned. So many nifty features, which would be advertised in commercial software (just the context menu of the properties dialog is just mighty), are just not mentioned enough so that also new users -- without reading the forums for months -- can discover.

A good start for example for the properties dialog is this guide in the official wiki. However, as this guide stands in line with a lot of outdated information, it is quite easy to be overlooked. Some kind of "official" documentation (offline or directly on the homepage) of the out-of-box functionality which comes with the fb2k installer would indeed be very helpful.

Yeah, most of my concerns are aesthetic.  Nonetheless, I find infobox much easier to use than the native properties pane.  I remain hopeful that the source will turn up somewhere.

foo_infobox.dll is incompatible with my win7 x64. I was looking for a new or modified version. so sad to hear that the plugin is officially dead..

If I wanted "Infobox", I would just switch back to Winamp... Well at least that's my opinion.

You guys!!! Default Properties Dialog is OK almost for all my needs.

What I miss from Default Properties dialog is to see Metadata and Properties on ONE page, not on separated pages as currently. The other think what i would like to have is a "Next", "Previous" button in dialog to navigate to next and previous item in playlist.
