Support - (fb2k) / Bug handling very long filenames in Windows 10 with longpath
Last post by Appelflapje -to get rid of the 260 character limitation of Windows 10 - which was needed to be able to store classical music which can have extremely long filenames.
Unfortunately foobar seems to crash when trying to play a track like :
"Z:\Discography\Classical\Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan\Haydn Die Schöpfung (The Creation) - [2016] - 16-44.1\Disc 2\07. Gundula Janowitz - Die Schöpfung, Hob. XXI2 Zweiter Teil 26. Chor Vollendet ist das große Werk - 27. Terzett Zu dir, o Herr - 28. Chor Vollendet ist das große We.flac"
A lot of classical music has very long pathnames (hence why I enabled the registry setting).
That track is playing in "Groove" (windows player) so the file is not corrupt, it's just foobar not being able to play it.
I read something about the application manifest (?) that should include a switch to have apps using the longer filenames.

P.S. windows explorer cannot handle long filenames correctly, I noticed when clicking "properties" of a file with a pathname longer then 260 characters, windows incorrectly shows a location with 8 character folders (z:\ABG4SE~6\EFFEDC~8). In a third party tool like TreeSize however the same dialogue shows the correct long pathname! So Microsofts own explorer has issues too.

Last post by Porcus -As for WavPack: WavPack has been a WAVE file compressor all the time, yes - but starting from WavPack 5, it can also losslessly compress DSD. Which is a good thing, because WavPack tags seem to be better supported than ID3 in DSF or DFF - and you also save space.
Drag and drop your DSF or DFF file onto wavpack.exe and see what happens.
(Using the command line with -h, you can get better compression.)

Last post by Valter -Consider a lossy codec instead of WAVE - since DSD to WAVE (or the other way around) is always going to be lossy, then one of the reasons to go "lossless" is moot already.Hi Porcus.
Keep the DSD file, of course. (Or WavPack it, that is lossless. You need to use the WavPack executable though, and it won't handle DST-compressed files.)
I'm not sure I understand what you said.
you say that from DSd s wavpack there are no losses?
i believed that wavpack contains wav and essentially they are the same.
just for clarity, i convert dsd to wav to burn a cd-r and hear the quality of the recording.

Fingerprinting: added buttons for tagging with ChromaPrint and FooID. Added button for searching similar tracks in library by fingerprint with FooID. All other ChromaPrint tools are greyed out due to limitations on current Foobar2000 and SMP engine.
Other tools\Write Tags: tool has been reworked to better handle ISO and cue files along under the hood improvements.
Profiler: configuration was not being applied until script was reloaded.
Playlist Manager: Updated to match v0.5.0-beta.6 release.

UI presets to easily switch all the colors on the UI at the same time to pre-defined sets.
Improved accesibility with presets for Color Blindness (deuteranopia) and Grey Scale. Every playlist type now has an specific icon associated.
Icon at header now opens the playlists folder.
New option to darken/lighten background of alternate rows on the list.
Categories and tags sub-menu has been reworked todisplays all existing categories to easily reuse them.
Multiple minor improvements on UI colors, sizing, text displaying of popups, cursor, etc.
Fixed crash when cloning playlist to UI.
