Title: Ever heard about a "Multitainer" ?
Post by: Wombat on 2002-07-21 00:19:29
This is a stand alone piece of harware that can play DVD, mp3 and everything else. I read in a forum where they modify it with stronger CPUs and stronger graphic cards to watch Divx and so on. OGG should be possible also i believe. I haven´t looked deeper into but it sounds interesting.

edit: seems to be a PC working with win98 into a dvd player looking case

Well seems like the Multitainer is something stronger. It has TV out, Scart, Digital AC3 out and so on. Also you can play directx games when you insert a strong enough CPU and more RAM. It has its own harddrive and so on.

A look into ebay shows prices from 200-350 ¤, 350¤ seems to be the regular price for the multitainer.

multitainer is a PC with Celeron, 750 or with luck: 1000 MHz, if I remember correctly, there wqere different versions, different sizes of HD.

In German www.dvdboard.de (http://www.dvdboard.de) there have been deeper discussions about it.

I hope, that in sometime dvdboard works again, if link is down.

Perhaps at ebay you will get it cheap, but you should consider buying and bulding your own HTPC. In dvdbaord there is a special HTPC forum where best hardware is discussed.
