If possible, I'd like to request that "always write utf-8 .cuesheet" option for this new version, thank you

edit: I... probably should stop worrying about the different .cue formats and why some programs use the INDEX00/01 entries or both. It probably depends on gap settings or something, the result of burning these different .cue should be identical in the end, is that correct?
I'm just worried about burning those back to the CD since I'm ripping it to lossless mostly as a backup.
I personally don't worry too much about gaps. If gaps are 'Appended to previous track' or are 'Not detected, thus appended to previous track', the resulting audio files are the same. See the 'Writing gaps' section in this hydrogenaudio wiki tutorial written about EAC Gap Settings.

A special thanks to Gregory for the new (incoming) version  ...
One question : how can i change the 'totaltrack' & 'totaldisc' tags with the reference standard 'tracktotal' & 'disktotal' during the flac creation ?
'Albumartist' tag is supported ? In the setting file i don't see anything...
Any chance in future to see the option 'capitalize first letter' in the tags option ?
Thanks in advance .

Would you please tell me what should I search for in all that "poem" to make sure the rip is perfect and 100% identical to the CD quality.. Also, explain to me please, what do colored parts mean and especially the green part where I'm having a lot of "no match" results...

I'm a bit of a noobie, so I'm trying to learn

Please put logs in a code box!
see http://www.cuetools.net/wiki/CUETools_log (same link I gave you [a href='index.php?act=findpost&pid=832274']here[/a]).
Everything up to the first red text is your disc reported from 2 databases. Everything from the first red text through the green text are alternate records under the same ID (but not your disc) and are provided in case there were no AccurateRip records matching the exact pressing of your disc.  From the first red text to the green text are ARv1 alternate pressings which may or may not 100% match your disc. The green section can be alternate pressings or alternate mastering (including different in peak levels). The bottom red section is explained in the first link (bottom of page).

Sorry I put it in [codes] at first but color wouldnt show in code view so I switched to normal:)

1. But if that's the case, wouldnt all of tracks be no match not only few of them? Sorry, I'm confused now.

what does (200+114/1064) mean? Only 200+114 out of 1064 rips in the database match my rip? or? If so, is it not too few? It should be a number a little closer to that 1064 surely? or I don't know what I'm talking about here..?

Explain like you are explaining to your uneducated child or something, explain like you are explaining to a noob  I need to understand that.

Color can be edited into the code box same as it can inside quotes.

1. I edited my post. Sometimes CDs are normalized on alternate pressings thus raising the levels on some tracks but not all. This can change the CRCs on some tracks but not all. Alternately a small defect can be introduced into the master plate that will slightly alter future pressings.
2. Yes that means 314 (200+114) out of 1064 total rips in the database match your pressing but as you already noted there were more than 16 alternate pressings included in that 1064 total figure.

Try it with Verbose off. That will show combined matches across pressings. (Individual matches at 0(nnn) are your disc. If 0(nnn) appears twice, one is ARv1 and the other ARv2).

Hello there. Which one of these both rips is actually accurate?
AR Confidence equals 1 for each of these rips... How trustworthy is that? I ask because today the AR database for another CD was actually missing one track(!), just check the last log below.

Your software seems great to me, I really enjoyed it!

I'm sure Gregory appreciates that you like the software.
Confidence 1 is unreliable unless all tracks are a match for your rip and you know for sure that you didn't submit the previous rip. It is possible that the confidence 1 entry may have errors or ripped from a CDR copy but chances are slim that your rip and an existing rip in the database submitted by someone else would have the exact same errors. It is more likely that because the rips match, both are good. However, to be certain that you didn't submit the previous rip, Confidence 2 would be more reliable when determining accuracy.

Rip 1: Using the above thinking the rip would be accurate according to CTDB (if you didn't submit the CTDB entry last October using EAC with the v2.1.3 CTDB plugin). Including your recent entry, the CTDB confidence is now 2. The AccurateRip summary is unreliable until there are more entries.

Rip 2 cannot be determined. Neither database has enough matching entries for all the tracks.

Rip 3 (see spoon's replies in this discussion). The last track was probably put into limbo awaiting a third rip because the two previous rips of that track had different CRCs. Determining accuracy would be the same as Rip 2.

That was so definite and concise. Thanks a lot! I wonder how you found the month for the other rip submission to CTDB. By the way that wasn't me.

Coldplay's - X&Y album... Is that possible? Only 2 found rips for this album in the whole AR database?

Database records are stored based on TOC (disc structure) not title. It looks like there are more than 25 freeDB IDs* for this CD with 13 tracks but none match the ID of your rip. So yes it is possible you have a less popular version of the CD title.

* I didn't verify all 25+ were unique.

So someone can actually have  "(*/1000+) Accurately ripped" of this album?

With a different version of the disc that may be possible.
I didn't mention that a low AR confidence can also be from an incorrect AccurateRip ID calculation because I didn't see any evidence of that here.
Incorrect AccurateRip ID calculation in CUETools could be caused by
  • A missing cue or a cue missing disc pregap (HTOA) info or missing EAC log for a rip of a disc that has pregap (HTOA).
  • Missing cue or missing or incorrect DISCID tag in the cue or missing TOC in the EAC log and missing EAC log for a rip of a disc that has a data track.
I did find 2 data track versions of this title but neither matched the 13 track structure of your disc.

Note: CUETools Database CTDB TOCID calculation doesn't rely on pregap (HTOA) or data track presence.

I wish I had the CD and rip it myself.. Now I'm just wondering how perfect the rip I have is.

And all the info you have been giving me for the last days is getting me confused big time.. Lol.

Why? If there are bad samples, either they're creating audible problems, or they aren't. If they aren't, then it's just like we say to people who are trying to figure out ideal settings for lossy codecs like MP3: once you can't tell the difference between your copy and the original, it is, in effect, perfection, and you can't improve on it. Not having the original to compare to makes it even easier; do you hear anything weird in it, that sounds like it shouldn't be there, or not? If not, there's no problem.

(Also, if you really wish you had the CD, you could just buy a used one for the cost of a latte, shipping included. I mean we are talking about a Coldplay album, probably the most easy-to-obtain CD in the universe. Someone you know probably wants to get rid of their copy. You could probably even stand on the street and hold out your hand, and someone would give you one.  )

Do I lose any quality if I split a single-flac album into multiple tracks(files)? I have John Lennon's "Imagine" in a single FLAC file and someone told me to use CUETools->Encode->Tracks->FLAC->libFLAC->8->Go.. in order to do that. So, do I lose quality? It's still lossless after that right?

CUETools versions 1.9.5 through 2.1.5 (current)

Yes, it's still lossless. By definition, no, you don't lose quality.

Dang it, I had blocked Medieval out of my mind.

I shouldn't have said "by definition" splitting a lossless image to lossless tracks is a lossless operation. That one particular splitter is notorious for screwing up track boundaries. CUETools splits properly, and is the only one I know of which respects HTOA (if so configured).

I shouldn't have said "by definition" splitting a lossless image to lossless tracks is a lossless operation.

It is if the lossless formats are properly decoded and re-encoded. And those are fair assumptions to make. It is indeed the case that, by definition, lossless is lossless… unless someone has done something wrong.

So, the exception to that rule is supplied by one programmer who thought they were being clever by trying to split directly in the compressed file, despite that not being supported by the format. And it is, it seems, an error for which other people will be paying for the rest of time, in the form of having to suffix common-sense rules about lossless with a disclaimer about MCS!

Been testing out the new v2.1.5 Dev rls and i must say it works really nice. Haven't stumbled over any issues so far when it comes to CUETools. Will get on testing CUERipper next.

Hi. Where did my tracks comment tag go after ripping? You know, that comment field inside the track itself - when you click the track in Cueripper tracklist.
I used that for the release years of tracks in my compilation albums and some additional notes but it's missing in Foobar properties window after the Cue file has been loaded. Foobar only shows the album comment tag - that one from the button Meta in Cueripper.
