Listening Tests / Re: A killer sample for Opus 256 VBR
Last post by Teddy_the_barber -
Ok, sounds fine to me now)) This is weird, I thought opus did the lowpass filtering itself. Now we have to lowpass filter prior to encoding?😑

My intention was to compare the original vs the lowpassed FLAC version. May you hear a difference - I currently have a listening fatigue on this one - please give me some time.

Yepp, still hear it. The sound of drums in the original is more "piercing". I feel like I got honest 6/8 though, the last one was hard and likely could be a guess.

Validated News / Re: [OPEN SOURCE] corticod (neural multimedia cocec)

We upset each other unnecessarily over such codecs that have no practical equivalent in real life.
FlowDec and AudioDec - by Meta - has been released (both under CC BY-NC License)...

Check their demo pages:
FlowDec - https://sp-uhh.github.io/FlowDec/
AudioDec - https://bigpon.github.io/AudioDec_demo/

Last but not least, I'm not upset at all.
Anyway I do apreciate CONSTRUCTIVE confrontation.

Disregard.
I toggled the Windows 10 Universal Volume Control setting off/on and restarted foobar.
System media keys function after doing this.

I'm sorry for necroposting, but I just upgraded from foobar2000 v1.6.16 to v2.24.3 and I had to also do this toggle trick to get the taskbar buttons to work when foobar2000 was minimized.

General - (fb2k) / Re: I want the same tagging that WMP uses

I'm not planning to rip anything, I basically wanted to use foobar as a CD player...
Here's the thing: I know FB2K caches metadata, but disregarding that you are reliant on a complex series of operations (including the availability of an on-line database) each time.  Doesn't it make more sense to attach metadata to the media as a one-off operation – ie rip the CD and add tags into the ripped files?  You get the opportunity to review and amend the metadata, or create it if it's missing, and contribute to the on-line databases for community benefit (when currently you are only free-loading).

Tried AAC 256 tvbr with this sample. Sounds transparent to me (albeit, having a little higher bitrate). I guess I'll be using that.
Shame though, opus doesn't screw up this sample because of its bad encoding technique, but because of its mandatory lowpass filtering at any bitrate. But no matter the reason, it doesn't deliver a transparent result.

3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: foo_vis_spectrum_analyzer

Suggestion for the next version of @pqyt's spectrum analyzer component: New default setting/preset

Something like this:
  • Background, foreground, and color gradient: Same as foobar2000's built-in "Spectrum" visualization to be more consistent with other UI elements, using DUI/CUI-defined colors rather than its own color scheme similar to foo_musical_spectrum
  • Refresh rate: 60fps (to be more in-line with hardware-accelerated version of foobar2000's built-in visualizations)
  • Smoothing time constant: 0.000 (0%, infinite decay rate)
