It would be also really nice to have shortcuts for:
  • play/pause (space bar)
  • seek forward 5 seconds (right arrow key)
  • seek backward 5 seconds (left arrow key)

Thanks again and please keep your great work.

Hey. Thanks for your work, I love to use the new version (2.5b).
Are there any chance for this features? It would be great.
Thanks.

Please this! Seeking with arrow keys is on the top of my wishlist.

I use foobar2000-v2.5_beta_21 on an M1 MacMini.
I installed Fidelia (from App Store) and Audirvana Studio too.
In all I don't use volume control or set them to max.
I hear a little loudness difference between Foobar2000 and the others. Foobar2000 seems me a little bit louder.
What could be the cause of this?

I plan to create a longer 1kHz wav file with a tool and then measure the output voltage at the DAC with my True RMS digital voltmeter.

Sorry if I am missing something obvious or not seeing previous discussion, but I'd like to get Mac Fb2k to resume playing a track after closing and restarting the app.  In Windows this was easy and could be set in Preferences; I don't see any such option in the Mac version, which _does_ start playing the last track I was listening to, after restart; but from its beginning, not from the point at which the app was closed.
There are apparently components that can help with this, but afaik all components still don't work with the Mac version?

Sorry, I jumped the gun asking about the resume feature.  Just tried the beta (2.5.22 was the newest as of today), then went into Settings>Playback>check the box beside "Save playback state when closing Foobar2000 and resume on next startup" and it seemed to work like a charm.  Lovely!

Thank you for this Mac version!

I wanted to report a bug regarding File Operations. If I add songs to the playlist via the Media Library (like Album List or ReFacets) and then use the File Operations > Move feature, it will try to move the files even if there is no change in the file name. The operation then fails with an "Object already exists" error. I do not see this issue with songs that were added using File > Add Files.

To reproduce:
1. Add a song to the default playlist from Album List.
2. Select File Operations > Move to > ...
3. Specify Pattern such that there is no change in the existing file name.
4. Click Run.
Result: "Object already exists" error

I would guess this is related to the fact that if I look at the Properties dialog for a Media Library file, the file path is prefixed by "file:///". Maybe this causes the comparison to fail.

I use Foobar 2.6 last preview on Mac M2. It is the best audio player for me on Mac. All works fine (i need only more filters like in Windows version, table live editing, search by current title/album/artist etc.), but if i create playlist and name it, then move it to other order place, it takes again name "New playlist". After Foobar restart this playlist takes right name.

Great work and thanks Peter.

Got a confusing bug to report. I'm using the newest version v2.6-2023-07-10 on MacOS Mojave.

All my songs are stored in NAS and are accessed through SMB. I add the network disk/folder path to Media Library, everything is OK, including infos and playback.

However, after I close/quit foobar2000 and re-open the app, it keeps re-index the whole library. I've got more than 1TB songs in ALAC format. Every time it re-index cost a lot of time, could you please see to it? Thanks.

hey, just wanna say thanks to the dev (peter) who works on the mac version. it's awesome that there is so frequent updates of the beta version! keep up the good work.

Foobar2000 v2.3.0 export playlists in m3u8 format, but Foobar2000 v2.6 (Beta) export now in fp format.
Foobar2000 v2.6 could import fp, m3u8, m3u too.
How we could change this, or could convert fp to m3u8, m3u playlists?

Addendum - a feature to export all playlist with one klick - but saved separately - would be a nice feature !

Peter is indeed heavylifting an insane amount of cross-platform programming: Win, Mac, iOS, Android, stable & preview versions.
I don't know how he manages to herd all that, but I'd be completely swamped.
Thank you, Peter!

In save playlist dialog window I must write a filename
if I write a filename without extension it creates a fp filetype
but if I append the extension .m3u8 or .m3u it creates the right filetype.
The select filetype window is missing!

Ability to group tracks into the playlists

HI.

F2K for Mac is a great program and works great.

The interface is very "spartan", basic, but that's fine. Only one thing is missing: the ability to group tracks in a playlist according to a certain titleformatting string, just like it's possible in F2K for windows.

The playlist, as it is now, takes up almost the entire screen to show data that repeats the same for each track, while grouping the fixed data for each album like it does with F2K on windows would not only make the playlists take up less space, but also make the tracklist easier to read.

F2K for Mac is a great program and works great.
But one basic feature is missing - send music data stream 1:1 to the connected DAC!
No matter what is set in Audio MIDI Setup!

Foobar2000 with Output Device: USB HS Audio Device [exclusive] changes the transmission format in Mac's audio-MIDI setup analogous to audio file format. But often only if you click on the piece of music a second time.
The Audirvana player bypasses these settings, you then see the audio device (DAC): (zero) 44.1 kHz - but the music stream is transmitted 1:1, which can be seen on the DAC. Is it planned to do this directly in Foobar2000 for Mac or as an add-on.
Unfortunately, I am not a developer who can give the necessary tips.

Adding keyboard shortcuts? I'm loving this player. But would like the ability to make your own keyboard  shortcuts like you can with the windows version.

Re: foobar2000 for mac

And also better integration with the macos dock (right clicking to quickly navigate to pause, play, stop, skip etc.)

But yeah, keyboard shortcuts should be pri #1 - (at least hard code in seek forward/backwards with arrow keys for the time being).

Hi Peter,

AVB devices do not show in Foobar (pic attached).

Also, and I hate to say this, but the UI is really terrible. I want a random button and to permanently remove the side bar and horrible "status bar". Any chance of a change to the UI coming?

Also please add shortcut to search in playlist like "CMD + F"

What is the procedure for replacing user interface components?
Someone writing a 3rd party ui component using the official SDK would be the first step. This is now possible and is what the entry in the changelog means.

Looks like the new beta has gotten components support. This is awesome! However I could not get any .mod, .sid, .xm, .vgz, .vgm, .ym and .ay files to play after installing the DEAF and GME components. Can anyone help?

Edit: NSF files do work. But that's the only VGM format I could get working.

So since v2.6 2023-09-07 preview there is now component support on macOS, which is amazing.
Could someone perhaps make a guide of sorts on how to port components to the new SDK 2.0 and make them mac compatible?
Hope this ain't a long-shot. Fingers crossed for a mac-compatible scrobbler component.

DEAF module decoder fixed, get a new foobar2000 Mac build. Component itself wasn't the issue.

Annoyingly it was working with debug build of foobar2000, not with release.

As of porting existing components,
Assuming that you're competent at both Windows and Mac OS development - you need to turn your DLL into a Mac OS component bundle and underlying Windows user interface into Mac user interface. If your component has no user interface of its own, it should be pretty straightforward.
