Maybe it's one one of the few websites open in China and why should they care about the stats? The forum is what it is and it keeps going at its own pace. In my opinion.

I wouldn’t read anything into those stats. In the top right corner of the Alexa site there’s a button labeled “This site’s metrics are estimated”. It opens a popup that explains:

Quote
Not all websites implement our on-site analytics and publish the results. For these sites, we show estimated metrics based on traffic patterns across the web as a whole. We identify these patterns by looking at the activity of millions of web users throughout the world, and using data normalization to correct for any biases. [...]

In other words: They have no substantial data because HA does not include their tracking code (kudos to the HA team for that!). So they took a wild guess and pretend it’s the same as a rating based on actual data.

Coincidentaly, I'd also stumbled upon those estimates a couple of days ago, but didn't take them too seriously,
as  I'd always assumed HA's largest audience came from Europe, thanks to the times things usually get quieter over here.

But I might be wrong in that assumption.
Listen to the music, not the media it's on.

Nothing unbelievable. Because there are more than 1 300 000 000 people in China.

Exactly. Awesome and free
That makes sense.

Look at the starting date of this thread:

Coincidence? Something not awesome and not free and the declining trend.

I am also pretty surprised to see Japan's rank in HA and foobar2000.org. It seems that they have some dedicated and localized audio players like Bug head and Lilith as well. Looks like foobar2000 has a lot of East Asian fans.

Half of the American population is full of hillbillies that basically go to their Sunday services.  Not surprised.

Just a dumb comment of my mine that I posted that edited down because I couldn't delete it.

Anyway, I was wondering what the correlations between religion and politics have on site traffic when it comes to scientific avenues and the popularity of said site based on that or if it's more related to cultural differences or how individual markets function or a combination of all of it.

Form my observation Alexa and SimilarWeb's statistics in country ranking and percentage are somewhat similar. Therefore I don't think population and internet censorship are the most important factors to affect China's traffic trend in English-based audio websites.

As soon as I read the statistics of foobar2000.org and AJ's comment, my thought is you don't need to know a lot of English to make foobar2000 functional, learning to use a software is more or less based on trial and error. Also, Does Alexa or SimilarWeb count something like updating a component or sending a crash report from within foobar2000 as part of the traffic?

It is also possible that a lot of East Asian visitors are lurkers who browse or search the forum for foobar2000 related information, and exchange their knowledge in their native languages in local communities.

Evidence found. SimilarWeb's "Top Referring Sites" in foobar2000.org:

Super detailed explanation of foobar2000's functions in Japanese. Much more organized and longer than HA's official foobar2000 wiki.
