Sorry about that, I couldn't help myself.

Really. This new forum is what we're settled on for the foreseeable future, and I like it this way. It's way easier to manage, and also way easier for me to at the very least skim over almost every single new post made to it each day. I don't care if the forum software is more like a "hobby" to its developers, even though they work on it almost daily and have listened to each of my bug reports and integrated any sensible fixes I've managed to contribute upstream.

The old software was at a total dead end, and I don't care if it "just worked", it was written for an older time, and it was a nightmare to maintain any minor change, and none of the changes could ever be sent upstream, because the developer has already moved on to "greener" pastures. Well, I've actually had a chance to try their latest, and I'd say they really moved on to browner pastures instead. Plus, I wouldn't want to be the one fitting the twice yearly maintenance fee to a developer to keep the forums running. I suppose that would have been up to our gracious host, though.

The handful of people who have come forward with criticism of this new forum, only a few have actually bothered to contribute style sheet or code changes that would actually make things work better for everyone. The rest are simply content to complain and expect me to read their minds and know exactly what bits of code need changing. That's the thing, I'm not really an aesthetics person, I don't really know what to do to style a forum to fit everyone's needs.

Please. Fork and pull on that Github repository mentioned in the opening post of the previous news topic. It means a lot to me to be able to fulfill complaints in a constructive manner.

I may even open up a repository for our current live tree of the forums script, minus the configuration file, since that contains our database credentials, even though the database only allows internal connections, it's best to be safe, right?

I do intend to update the forums to ElkArte 1.0.7, which was just released. A lot of different changes, but nothing that should break anything. I plan to run a diff against the two releases, apply the patch to the working tree, then clean up the pieces, before moving the live version over to the result.

I guess i should have already thanked you for all the time and your efforts you do with this forum.
With the recent layout i was able to create some of my most colored posts on hydrogen ever so its usage can't be hard :)
Do whatever keeps your workflow convenient!
Cheers!

I actually like the new forum. The dark theme really makes me happy. The only things that somewhat annoy me aren't enough to worry about. Again, thanks for your efforts!

Update to 1.0.7 complete. Have a nice day. Still waiting on a fix for the customizable menu items that link to the ToS, Wiki, and foobar2000 forums.

Incidentally, that rather rude topic name that appeared on my April Fools topic on the old forum was a byproduct of a rather snippy moderator who was expressing some passive-aggression in response to the passive-aggressive act of KDDLB setting our IRC bot to ignore him. He'll be cooling off for a while now.

I'd just like to interject for a moment explain, but I don't think I want to bring unneeded drama to this lovely forum.

So I didn't imagine that?

Well that was all...interesting, I guess.  :o

FWIW I like the new forum.

I may have already stated that and in case forgive me for repeating: the only think I don't like in the new forum is the fixed number of posts in the "Recent Topics" panel: I really really enjoyed being able to paginate back in time in there, without needing to go to any particular forum. Having lost that functionality is a big loss, at least for me.

Said that, great job, really: thanks, kode54!

On my phone.  The function works fine in Firefox.
On my tablet the desktop mode works with messages and firefox. Default mode does nothing when pressing the My Messages button.

Thanks for all the heavy lifting behind the scenes, Kode.

Really, a huge Thank You for ensuring that audio sanity is well and alive at least here in this forum.

As mentioned above, make your workflow as easy on yourself as possible. When you benefit, we all benefit. Forum uptime, searching through ancient threads for knowledge... we all take these for granted.

Canar Edit: Yes, it should have. Mistakes were made, not least of all by myself.

Now i feel a bit baffled.
I now know i simply don't know what happened and taking a side can only be wrong.
Shouldn't all this better be kept behind the scenes?

He became so enraged (he's a big bigot) that @kode54 and I were in a relationship, and thought the April Fools' joke was a jab at him. In reality, it was Case that was targeted.

It seems I missed the drama, but let me tell you then: I only realized it's not IPB after like months later. I thought it's just an upgraded version of the engine/skin/whatever.

Rest assured, you did and do a great job. It's just the fact that most people only voice their opinions when they have a problem. Have a nice day.

Not even remotely true about my behaviour and motives, FWIW.

I'd just like to second this appreciation of the upgrade. The April fools temporary change back to the old forum made me realize that I prefer the new functionality and layout :-)

I like the new forum design. I hadn't used the old one very long, but long enough to appreciate what we have now.

If it's possible to do so, the only thing I would change is to move the 'last post' button next to the page list. I keep clicking the link to the last page and scrolling down to see the latest post because the button doesn't get my attention hanging out where it is. (In fact, I only really noticed it two days ago.) Not a showstopper, but I feel it would make for a better user experience.
