Yeah I'm looking forward to this one, and curious to see since it is a version released after Justin Frankel left.

Interesting.
Realmedia 10 gold just went live , with .mp4 as standard ripping method.

By default RealPlayer 10 now rips music CDs to AAC M4A (MP4) at 192 kbps

Now Winwmap

It's not up on the servers yet.

AAC ripping is there since 5.00, MP4 ripping is there since 5.02 actually. But they made MP4 ripping the default one now (before it was AAC ripping - raw AAC tagged with IDv2 and therefore not a wise choice).

Now it is possible to encode within winamp using the presets. Before that was not possible within the LAME Dll.
But only Pro users will benefit from it, since MP3 encoding is a Pro feature (due to the licencing costs).

Amano, you spoke a bit too soon.

According to Christophe and several other guys I heard from, the release date for 5.03 is next Tuesday. An internal release candidate was being tested about 2-3 days ago. This upgrade's been in "about-to-be-released" status for a little over a week now.

Sorry Peter, I didn't think so far.  The next time I will do so.
Maybe just make another news submission and refer to this thread for the discussion.

Details:

Christophe told in the Winamp forums, that the new in_wma isn't hardcoded to in_wave anymore.

The full changelog:

Winamp 5.03:
* made MP4 AAC the new default ripping encoder
* fixed a crash bug when playing some AVI files in in_dshow
* added multimedia keyboard keys in global hotkeys default configuration
* added "Manual playlist advance" in Repeat button popup menu in Classic mode

* made the tabs in the preferences XP correctly themed under Windows XP
* revamped the Media Library preferences a bit

* added "Nuke library" action in Media Library
* more upside down videos fixes

  - current skin version number is 1.2 (this should not change for a long while now, and
of course we continue to support 0.8 to 1.1)

script then use 'x' to continue and 'i' to trace into)

  - fixed rectrgn being forced to 1 in xml xuiobject buttons that are originally imageless
  - fixed hilited state not on after clicking on buttons while the mouse stays in area
  - fixed scripted onEnterArea/onLeaveArea not being always correctly called while mouse
    button stays down
  - fixed getToken being passed NULL throwing guru
  - fixed clipping of painting within the background's region of a group rather than
within the composed region (the one you can change with sysregion)
  - fixed image cache problem when using the same bitmap as a map and a button image

Well, I meant posting a new thread with changelog in second entry. Your choice, I can still swap news if you post another thread. Or split this one.

EDIT: Just saw that it hit the portal site this way. Sorry again Peter for having such dumb forum members.

@Menno: I don't know if there is a bug in the Winamp AAC decoder. You would be the best man to have a look and to report back

Don't forget the Pro version

Ben

How come it let me download the Pro version with that link?  Don't you have to pay for it?  Or will it prompt a registration code if one bothers to install it (I won't bother to install it as I'm not interested in Winamp anymore).

I downloaded and installed 5.03. Here's my take on the good and the bad in Winamp.

Good:

1. Media Library: The Winamp Media Library is the easiest way to organise your music.

Bad:

1. No tabbed playlists: I wish you could enqueue into a different playlist everytime you enqueue things from the media library.

2. No native ReplayGain support: There are plugins from what I know of but I wish they could support it natively. Also see point 3 below.

3. No APEv2 support.

Hope that helps anyone who's trying to decide whether to install it or not.
