CD rip has numerous timing problems

hi folks,

I have a CD I've been trying to rip, but it was taking forever with EAC.  I also tried CueRipper and finally used Roxio Easy CD & DVD Burning to get what looks like a successful rip (sounds ok), but it took at least a couple of hours.

When I tried EAC, I used burst mode, as secure mode just wasn't going to do it.  I aborted after three tracks, but the log file indicated numerous timing problems - no suspicious positions which is what I'd expect if the disc were damaged.  The disc looks pretty good and plays without any audible issues on my CD player.

Any ideas what might be causing this or if there's any way to get a rip I can confirm as error free?

I aborted after three tracks, but the log file indicated numerous timing problems - no suspicious positions which is what I'd expect if the disc were damaged.

Burst mode doesn't have error detection/correction. A timing problem means a lot of time was needed to try to read the section. It doesn't always mean an error (but could).

What else might cause the timing problems?  A poorly manufactred disc?

Also, when using burst mode with EAC or CUERipper, they both appear to be reading the sections several times - is that to be expected?

A few things that may cause timing problems:
Disc flaws,
label scratched or separating from polycarbonate,
scuffed, scratched or cloudy polycarbonate,
drive may have an issue with the reflective properties of a particular CD,
CD spinning too fast,
and probably more I can't think of.

Multiple attempts to read once can be expected.
CUERipper is able to do C2 error correction in Burst mode so up to 15 re-reads are possible if C2 error correction support detected.

any way to get a rip I can confirm as error free?
If this CD is presented in CTDB, you can use CUETools and try to verify and repair your rip, regardless of what program was used for ripping.
