what is "block alignment" in the context of shntool?

what does block alignment mean in the context of shntool? and is the same as flac's "--sector-align"?

what i'm really wondering is whether block alignment is of any concern if not burning plastic

shnutils (shorten utilities) is a tool suite/collection that includes shntool.

i'm curious however why the question was asked "Does anyone even still use Shorten any more?"

i'm working in a shell environment and using shntool to do various integrity checks on the files - given that, is there another preferred/better tool (other than mediainfo which i'm also using)?
