Hi all,
as many of you have noticed HA has been getting annoying slow as of late. An increasing userbase combined with the forum itself containing more and more content has caused us to outgrow our current server. The administrators have been slowly working to set up a new, more powerful server to make HA usable once again. Together with the server move, we will also update the forum software to add a bunch of new features and bugfixes. Our looks will also change slightly and offer a more readable and professional style.
It is possible that at first some things will not work correctly on the new server, or some features that you are used to might be missing. We will try to resolve such issues in the coming weeks.
Next monday, we will shut down the forum and wiki and start moving. We hope that this process will be finished in a day or two. So, expect us to be back around Wednesday.
The HydrogenAudio admins

Thank for keeping us informed of the updates with the server. It has slowed down considerable in the last six months and I am sure these upgrades are well worth the time. It's good to finally see an announcement. I hope the transition goes well for you and the other admins! Thanks again.
Out of curiosity, are you keeping IPB or are you switching to another software? Guess another software would be difficult since the existing data would have to be transferred to another format.

In my PC upgrade last year I tried to be power efficient. As this subject is much more an issue in the server environment I would be interested in more details.
Do you mind to drop a line or two about the power efficiency of the new server ?
Sebastian Mares: IPB again, only upgrading to a newer version.
Do you mind to drop a line or two about the power efficiency of the new server ?
I read more powerful ... not more power efficient.
Our looks will also change slightly and offer a more readable and professional style.
You know, some of us already got a preview of what's coming, at least I got an email notification of a new post to "HA slow, now messages don't appear?" thread in your test server some time ago (IIRC, it was your "test" post). The updated IPB looked very nice. Good job. Thank you. Fingers crossed that everything goes right with the move.
It surely is faster than before. Thank you. Can't wait to see new upgrades of forum software.
I read more powerful ... not more power efficient.
Yes. I´m not implying that, just asking.
In my case, for example, I have an athlon 64 x2 4000+.
Having an AM2+ motherboard I can get several more powerful CPUs right now but among them there is the athlon 64 x2 4850e. It is both, more powerful (2500 x 2100 MHz) and more efficient (45 x 65W). In case it´s powerful enough, why not to consider it ?
Do you mean that there isn´t such a CPU/motherboard scenery in the server side ?
Out of curiosity, are you keeping IPB or are you switching to another software? Guess another software would be difficult since the existing data would have to be transferred to another format.
I do not think the database is the real problem, since most other forum software has (paid for) converters from IPB. We're keeping IPB though since it's the path of least resistance (I do not really have a lot of time to set up something new entirely), I already have the license for it, we have some good customizations for it, and we know it deals fairly well with big forums.
I was not so hot with upgrading IPB earlier, but the new versions had several features which were actually very interesting for us (improved security & speed, reCAPTCHA).
Do you mean that there isn´t such a CPU/motherboard scenery in the server side ?
Not really for a community our size. We use a dedicated server, where the hoster provides the hardware, rather than a colocation, where we provide the hardware. It seems this currently gets us the best price and least hassle for the hardware we need. I also require a hoster which is at least reasonably well-known, lest we get some unpleasant surprise on that side.
The hosters who invested in energy-efficient equipment are also the ones who can provide good prices now, though. So to answer your question: I'm quite sure our new machine has much more performance/watt than the old one, and its definitely worth to invest in energy-efficiency on the server side.
Our looks will also change slightly and offer a more readable and professional style.

Damn, you caught me
Thank you for the time and effort you and the other admins/mods are putting into this move. I hope it goes smoothly.

+1! All my best wishes!

I think this is a good time to re-up with a donation, it's been a while, but I am looking forward to the new features and server speed (just please don't add those search verification measures, they are so annoying!). After some digging I finally found the direct link to donate to HA (http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/upload/donation_redirect.html) (http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/upload/donation_redirect.html). Not a whole lot, but here's my $20.
If you read this, you're on the new server. Welcome!

congrats for this awesome new design! i love it!

Thanks for all your efforts.
Curiously, it currently does not show hydrogenaudio domain name. Is this temporary or will this be the new domain?
HA forum seems to be OK for me. Thanks everybody. I will donate too asap (in real hurry now...)
foobar2000 forum still on the old platform? It doesn't redirect to ha.sjeng.org for me. Is this OK?
Ciao a tutti!
Sergio
Ooooh, shiny!
Cool a new server, and a new layout. The new layout seems to feel more faster when scrolling.
Thank you for migrating to new servers and updating the site's UI. hydrogenaudio was getting annoyingly slow. The site seems to load much faster (even though I am sure the server move is not complete since it is only Monday) and the new interface looks much better. I am working on a 15" Pentium M tablet PC and the threads are much easier to read on this small screen (it is small as I migrated over from a 22" iMac). Thanks to everyone who makes these forums possible.
I see nice fonts with the default Firefox settings under suse linux. Much more readable...
Wow! This looks so much better to my eyes, and it goes like hot flaming stink! Thanks for all your efforts in getting this done, guys. Excellent job!
Cheers, Slipstreem.

No need to be sarcastic when things do look much better and posts are easier to read. This is an improvement over the old layout which has been the same for quite a bit of time.
nice design and speed! thanks for your work.
Not bad. Kudos on getting it up and running so fast; I thought the downtime would be longer.
Congrats on the upgrade/move. Looking forward to even-faster refutations of the "mp3 is like a jpg" discussions.

Not sarcastic at all. I just mentioned something that came first to my attention after the server switch.
BTW, the server response time is extremely good. Double speed for me.
Congratulations and thanks to all concerned. Like the new look, especially as the changes are subtle.
BTW, just before the server shut down temporarily, HA was going much faster for me--I thought the change might have been done invisibly. Obviously just a fluke, and the take-away is: you always need properly controlled tests.
Awesome. Congratulations and thank you.

your mirrored user-name avatar looks out of place with the new look though zipr

Thanks for all your efforts.
Curiously, it currently does not show hydrogenaudio domain name. Is this temporary or will this be the new domain?
This is temporary. By now everything should point to hydrogenaudio.org again.
Excellent. It will no longer take me 10 minutes to empty my PM box.
Lightning fast now. Are there any plans to bring us the combo box back, for easier forum navigation?

Maybe. It was one of the ugliest hacks we had, so I'm not really enthusiastic about it. It will also be harder to fit in the new layout.

Sorry but you used this smiley: That is mostly used when someone is being sarcastic. That is why I was confused and thought you were being negative here.
i never had problems with speed before, but it's good to be back again, and a nice design, too.
may i ask what theme is the forum using now? i think i'll try to port it to punbb when i have too much free time

Default "IP.Board Pro" with a few tweaks
It looks 10x better then the previous theme in my opinion. It's more "professional" looking. Everything seems to be working good. My only question is why in the profile can you not change your "gender" or "interests". It appears as though the drop down menu on either of those does not work!? I am confused.

Hmm, worksforme. What browser?
It works fine here in FF3, not that I have any intention of changing my gender in the foreseeable future.

Very fast page loading, though I like the old theme better but thats just my taste. Kudos to the server switch.

That was the thing in upper right which navigated me right to the Off-Topic or CD Hardware/Software section?
That's the feature I'm missing most in the moment.
Edit: typo
I think the logo should have a bit more padding top and bottom, but other than that, I like it

Works for me in IE6.
Holy crap, the server knows what I'm going to do before I know myself.
Anyone else noticing problems with the "Forum Options" dropdown at the top of a subforum view and NoScript on Firefox? I've got the latest FF (3.0.5) and NoScript (1.8.9.7) and even though HA is on my whitelist with everything allowed, I just don't get the dropdown menu when I click the button. A completely clean FF profile with no addons installed works fine.
Hmm, worksforme. What browser?
I am using FF3. I haven't tried it with IE yet. The drop down didn't seem to work when I clicked on either gender or options.
I'm using Opera 9.63 and cannot switch between About Me/Topics/Posts/Comments/Friends in smb.'s profile.
All other works great.

I notice the same thing, I turned disabled Adblock Plus on hydrogenaudio.com and they are working fine.

Try a clean install (in a separate folder).

I see this as well. I don't know enough CSS to fix that one, though. If someone else does and can give a hint where the problems is, that is welcome.
It seems to be caused by the fact that the containing table cell (id: ed-0_options-bar) uses "width: auto". If you remove that the whole table fills the whole width in FF and Chrome just like it does in IE (i.e.: the issue is the width of the containing cell, not the padding on the emoticons).
NB: this style is applied inline:
<td valign="top" nowrap="nowrap" id="ed-0_options-bar" class="rte-option-panel" style="height: auto; display: block; width: auto;">
It is possible that other changes within the table cell would mean that "width: auto" would behave more consistently, but it's a little to dissect in a few minutes. I am testing using FF3 with Firebug to alter styles on the fly.
Or change width to 100% , works fine in Chrome, Safari
Nice upgrade
Congratulations! Very nice Design and much faster page loading now for me.
But there seems to be something wrong with the downloads. If you try to download TAK 1.1.0 (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=68456&view=findpost&p=607828), you will be asked to log in.
There is also a similar report in this thread (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=65499&view=findpost&p=611644).

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.
The error returned was:
Sorry, but you do not have permission to use this feature. If you are not logged in, you may do so using the form below if available.
I want to thank the HA crew for this great site and succefull server switch. Everything hase low response times again. But there are some small problems I just discovered.
When I edit my post I have 2 options: "Full Edit" mode works OK but not the "Quick Edit" mode. When Quick Editting post I'm able to edit the post content but when hitting the "Complete Edit" or the "Use Full Editor" the browser jumps to the top of the page. Button "Cancel Edit" works correctly. This I've only tried on Firefox v3.0.5.
Garf, I am extremely impressed by the speed of the site (and with the speed at which it was moved).
I was just waxing lyrical to a friend who maintains a medium/large forum. Are you able to provide details of the hosting set-up that I could pass on to him?
I'm posting to a thread, rather than PM'ing, as I suspect that some other members may be interested as well.
Many thanks.
I believe the downloads issue is fixed now.

Great work: nice new pro layout and very good response times, thanks.
I miss the combo box too, it's was pretty convenient.

Thanks. After deleting all cached files and cookies (and disabling proxy) Opera works here too
The speed is fine now and the new layout looks nice, but I have problems with the new RSS feeds. I'm getting always only the first post of a topic as a RSS item, when a new post was added to the topic. This "works" only once for each topic. For each topic for which I got an RSS item I don't get further notifications (probably because I'm getting only the first post of a topic). Can someone confirm this misbehavior?
I have a problem with Chrome 2.0.159.0 . To be enable to read post of the topic I should switch to Linear+ mode each time.
No problem with another browsers.

IPB seems to do this by design. Bah!
I'll see if I can change that.

Thats because you are viewing it with IE , it seems that IPB applies different styles for IE and the rest or something is messed up in template.
You could contact IPB support to clear this issue.

Oh right my mistake maybe some cache misleading, so the width of 'ed-0_options-bar' element must be set to 100% not 0px like its now.

Should be fixed now.
Thank you for your effort. Now I'm getting the last post of a topic but with the date of the first post. This will probably cause that I still get only one notificaton per topic. I will see, if I get a notification for this post.
Edit: My assumption was correct. I did not get a notification for this post, the notification for the post above was the only one for this topic.

No, if I look at the page source in FF (Windows) or Chrome I see what you see; Firebug is showing me what is actually happening with the DOM. It turns out that the style is actually applied to the DOM by the Javascript file "jscripts/ips_text_editor_func.js", which is a bitch to look at as it has been minified. Somewhere in that one line of code there is:
var _options=document.getElementById(editor_id+'_options-bar');
...
_options.style.width='auto';_options.style.height='auto';_options.style.display='block';
This probably doesn't really help you. I guess a post to IPB would be more prudent.
Edit: doing a search for that file name seems to produce a few relevant results; the first certainly looks relevant:
http://invisionmodding.com/index.php?autoc...amp;article=453 (http://invisionmodding.com/index.php?autocom=tutorials&article=453)
It looks like you have access to the "Development" files, which are not minified. You can edit those then minify them, using an online JSMinify (http://fmarcia.info/jsmin/test.html) or YUI Compressor frontend (http://www.refresh-sf.com/yui/).

I think it is now mostly fixed. Thanks for the help. Also thanks for the hint wrt Firebug, I was still using the Web developer extensions, which doesn't seem as well-featured.
What about the Quick Edit mode I posted about yesterday? Is it just me or do others also have problems with the "Complete Edit" and the "Use Full Editor" buttons?
Edit: Quick Edit and Use Full Editor work now!
Edit2: tested again with FireFox3

Thanks again. Basically it is know working as expected. There are only a few glitches, which I didn't expect to be removed nor do I know if it's even possible, but I want to inform you about it:
- if there arrives more than one post for a topic during the polling interval of my RSS reader, I will only get a notification for the last post. So to be absolutely sure I'm not missing anything, I have to open the RSS item, although the full post was sent
- In some few cases I get only the header of a post instead of the full post. Unfortunately I can't find any rule, when this happens.
- It is sometimes not easy to read a post with quotes with the RSS reader, because it is not always possible to identify where a quote ends. Here is an example how it looks like in the RSS reader:
QUOTE (Bruce-in-Philly @ Jan 28 2009, 05:01) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
CD players, in particular my stupidly expensive Accuphase, are designed to reduce jitter while a PC is not. PCs don't care about jitter (as long as it is not massive) to pass the letter "A" or "4" through the system for display on your screen. Reconstruction of an analog wave is a totally different endeavor so your assumption that a PC produces a better signal is very inaccurate when it comes to jitter.
You are right, a PC does not care whether a chunk of data that it writes to the audio hardware's buffer gets there a few milliseconds sooner or later - as long as it can keep that buffer sufficiently full. (If it can't, that will result in drop-outs, not in jitter.) The audio hardware then feeds that data into a DAC or a digital output, and whether/how much jitter is introduced there depends primarily on the quality of the clock it uses. Like with CD players, there are differences between cheap and expensive soundcards (or onboard audio hardware). If you examine the properties of individual components of your audio processing chain, please consider that a PC has several components as well, it is not a monolithic unit.
Here the quote ends after "... when it comes to jitter." - There is no author sent with a RSS item, so I have to open it, to see who wrote a post
- And a last one, which is not directly RSS related: Opening a RSS item uses for example the following link: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....view=getnewpost (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=64461&view=getnewpost). But the first time I open it I'm redirected to http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....mp;#entry609028 (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=64461&st=0&#entry609028). This does not lead me to the last post. Instead I'm directed to some posts above the last post. But opening the RSS item a second time redirects me to this link: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....mp;#entry611882 (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=64461&pid=611882&st=0&#entry611882). This is now correctly the last post of a topic

I think properly fixing this requires the RSS feed to be split up into 2 feeds: a "topics" feed, which just shows headers, uses "getnewpost" (last unread post), and a "posts" feed, which includes all posts. Quite doable.
The content of the post feed (the way it presents in the RSS reader) won't be changed. The IPB code has to remangle the markup to something that is acceptable for RSS, and I won't be touching this. Including author shouldn't be a problem, though.
The logged-in cookie is timing out after a short time requiring the user to log back in.
interesting that they still use html tables (ipboard i mean).
edit: the ha logo needs some white space around it, right now it looks squished.
The logged-in cookie is timing out after a short time requiring the user to log back in.
Seems to be by design. Changed to 30 days.
Many thanks, Garf.
Sorry to be a pest - but when I change PC's from which I am accessing the site (laptop to desktop) I seem to require to login again - is that normal behaviour?

Try to mark the checkbox to remember you on the login page, then next time your browser should login seamlessly. Also, your browser should keep cookies (do not delete cookies on exit/close), I presume .
I'm using the same PC's as before the switch and always have the "remember me" tick-box ticked.
It could be something to do with cookie refresh, I suppose.
I finally had the time to test out this new forum.
1) Topic Subscription Reply Notification
[blockquote]"There may be more replies to this topic, but only 1 email is sent per board visit for each subscribed topic. This is to limit the amount of mail that is sent to your inbox."[/blockquote][blockquote]- Old HA forum ignored this and always sent an email. Please bring it back! Please! I don't want to login every time just to get new notifications in the future! I usually only login when it's needed (writing posts). I already have missed couple of posts because of this... I wonder how many I've not noticed.[/blockquote]2) "Your daily new topics digest" emails aren't showing any links to the topics for Forum Subscriptions. Major drag. Dunno how this was with the old forum. For some reason I started to get daily digests from "Validated News" forum after the forum update. IIRC I had no digests before the change.
3) Why is the "Remember me?" on by default in login page? Was that default in the old forum? I use Opera's Wand feature, so I easily forget to check that off. And what does it actually do? Am I quickly booted out if I don't put it on when logging in?

Not needed anymore? I used that RSS + the "Posts" feed to get all (maybe) topics to show in my GreatNews RSS reader. Constantly the other feed showed posts which the other didn't.. I'm not sure if this is because of my RSS reader (I can see couple of missed posts in the RSS feed now).. I'm going to try FeedDemon and see if that performs better. Or has anyone noticed that the RSS feeds misses some posts?
Hate to say but the old forum version was better for me, the usability has taken a hit because of the "Topic Subscription Reply Notification" feature change.
Or has anyone noticed that the RSS feeds misses some posts?

I believe so. I've run into the same inconvenience on another IPB site running the latest version.
It's still happening - *very* annoying.
What I don't understand is that I have not changed the way I login in any way - it must be something to do with the boards - maybe to do with IP address changing for the same user.
It's still happening - *very* annoying.
Try a different browser, maybe: Opera (http://www.opera.com), Safari (http://www.apple.com/safari/). I visit the site from different locations (even from Opera Mini (http://www.opera.com/mini/) sometimes), and fortunately don't experience the problem you have.
I'm using the same two browsers that I was using before: IE and Firefox. No settings have been changed on my side.

The problem I'm seeing is not actually this. There's just entirely missed posts (not in history either.. within many days), it's got nothing to do with the more than one post during polling interval (I've set it to 1 hour), some posts just doesn't show up (*). And I'm only "reading" RSS headers in my RSS reader. I always click the link to open in my browser IF I want to read that topic.
* In example this:
The HA "Latest Posts" lists these sequentially:
- Hydrogenaudio Server Switch
- MusicBee v0.2
- Recommended AC-3 encoder
- Create CoverSearch
GreatNews RSS reader:
- Hydrogenaudio Server Switch
- Recommended AC-3 encoder
- Create CoverSearch
The last "MusicBee v0.2" RSS item found from the GreatNews is from 18.1.2009 12:16 PM!!! There's 16 new posts after that!
I have "mark changed items unread" option on, if that makes a difference here.
Either GreatNews is bugging out or it's HA forum RSS feed. I'm going to install FeedDemon today, it takes at least couple of days to test & compare it to the GreatNews.. I'll get back to this later. Maybe others should keep an eye on this too with their RSS readers.
No comments for the other issues I wrote?
I'm using the Firefox extension Brief as RSS Reader and I got the mentioned MusicBee RSS item.
Does the problem still exist now?
Thanks Garf - I'll let you know when I get home - that's when would next happen.
I am still required to login when changing PC's (and IP addresses).
I can also confirm that on one of my machines I must always log in (fields are populated, but I must hit the button), while the other remembers my credentials. Both running Firefox 3.0.6 on XP Pro. I've cleared all cookies on the affected machine, but still the same.
I am still required to login when changing PC's (and IP addresses).
You mentioned that you use different browsers, but also on the same machine? i.e. does switching browsers on one machine make the problem disappear?
I had problems before with "broken cookies" and Firefox. It can be a pain to get it do delete everything.
I finally had the time to test out this new forum.

No changes planned here. Sending multiple emails is particularly a problem because gazillions of people are asking for email replies, and then changing ISP without changing their email here. As a result, our server is constantly hammering those ISP's with mails for invalid addresses.
If we only send 1 mail per topic, the problem eventually peters out. With your suggestion, we'll just spam more and more.
Additionally, the idea is for people to come and read here, and discuss here. This is not a mailinglist.
I do not want to touch this IPB feature, and I do not want to change the current behaviour.

It puts a cookie which removes the need for you to log in the next time you visit the site.

The old RSS feed simply no longer works with the new forum. I will split the new one in 2 feeds, as described above already. I don't know if the missing posts are problem on your or our side (except again for the limitations as described in previous posts)

It seems to have been cured now - the different browsers are on different PCs.

I understand but still.. maybe the "non-valid email addresses" issue should be resolved somehow. Maybe automatically unsubscribing/stop sending when last X emails bounce back (if that can be tracked). I just posted an "Immediate Email Notification" setting POLL (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=69384) topic.
I'm not following you on the mailinglist concern, if the digest notification email doesn't have links to topics on this forum, how do you expect the readers of those emails to come here to discuss?

Great, let us know when you've done the split.
I have now tried FeedDemon for couple of days and I got to say that it really seems that some posts are missed for some reason. I don't have the time to test this more, I got enough ongoing debugging with various software already (latest is VirtualBox with 4 new bugs! (3 major) ). The splitted RSS will probably help out this problem.. though I don't want insinuate that this is a HA forum bug.

When you read the post on the old forums the icon disappeared. They disappear on the page that comes up when you click "More..." to get to "Today's Active Topics"

It's what Nick.C said, in the old forum the icons dissapeared when you have read the thread.
Is it a new thing that they should not dissapear ?

They disappear in the "more" listing. On the portal, I thought the never disappeared but looked "faded" on the old forum. You're right neither behavior seems to work right now.
What is the name of this new skin?
Is it possible to make Verdana 9 pt instead of 10 pt the main font for posts?
Is it possible to make Verdana 9 pt instead of 10 pt the main font for posts?
Oh hell no. HA can't become another victim of the tiny text disease. We've got more screen real estate than ever, and there's no reason to compress everything down to stamp size.
While you're here:
How about allowing image links to attachments outside the attachment post? I can't tell you how many times I've bumped into that. Is there some special reason only mods can do it?

9 pt is stamp size? Good grief! The path name of the forum you're currently in is in 9 pt. Verdana looks much better than in 10 pt size.
Also member names are in 9 pt bold.
I think there's a problem with the width of codeboxes.
As an update, the codeboxes look fine on firefox 2, but not on firefox 3, ie6 or ie7.
The Lossless / Other Codecs forum's description still lists TAK as YALAC.
Is it just me or is "OT & Music" (drop-down list at the top of the page) showing only the topics from Music?
@Garf: any progress with the RSS split? Also about the new email notification setting, from my POLL (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=69384): "Would it be a hassle to stab the forum code and providing an option to choose between these two polled settings per subscribed topic?"
I'm really frustrated with the forum RSS. I've been using FeedDemon (switched from GreatNews) and testing out Google Reader (FeedDemon might sync with this in the future) and constantly there are missed posts.
I just realized that in FeedDemon, (only some of?) the missed items are updated (content & time) but FeedDemon doesn't
unmark them as read. The topics I tested this with is "REACT 2 Released" and "CUETools 1.9.2" (I had more items but the feed shows only last 15), both of these items had "Recommendations" in feedvalidator.org:
This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.

I wonder if these have anything to do with the failures of FeedDemon and Google Reader updating these items correctly. I doubt it.
With Google Reader, the above 2 topic contents are updated BUT the "CUETools 1.9.2" item is dated as
Jan 31, 2009 (the tooltip hover over that date shows:
Received: Jan 31, 2009 8:59 PM ...
Published: Mar 9, 2009 1:38 AM) and the "REACT 2 Released" item is dated as
Feb 3, 2009 (and the tooltip:
Received: Feb 3, 2009 10:40 PM ...
Published: Mar 9, 2009 1:49 AM). Hovering other item dates show sometimes similar funny dates.
I wonder if the <pubDate> in line 7 is to blame. There seems to be much talk on interwebs with this and <lastBuildDate> tags. Some talk something about "future datetimes" that will "hide" RSS items or something like that. Also when I read some of the date tooltip dates in other (working) feeds, the "Received" date is ALWAYS (minutes, hours, days) newer or same as the "Published" date. Is this the culprit? Those feeds don't have the channel <pubDate>, only item <pubDate> tags. One feed has just the <lastBuildDate> tag. And I just found other thread where this same problem happens; feed channel <lastBuildDate> (no <pubDate> tag) date is older (about 2 hours) than the 1st feed item <pubDate> tag date! FeedDemon shows the updated content and date but doesn't unmark it as read (just like with HA RSS), and Google Reader tooltip "Received" date is about ½ day older than the "Published" date (again just like with HA RSS). I think this information should be enough to nail this SOB RSS problem.
Could somebody put up a test RSS feed with different channel <pubDate> (http://www.w3schools.com/rss/rss_tag_pubdate.asp) and <lastBuildDate> (http://www.w3schools.com/rss/rss_tag_lastbuilddate.asp) tag variations? E.g. omit both tags, add both or just the lastBuildDate (with a date that is same or newer as the newest (1st) item). One dude on web said: "Be Sure To Use pubDate And lastBuildDate! (http://jonaquino.blogspot.com/2005/02/rolling-your-own-rss-feed-be-sure-to.html)". Dunno if he's right or not.. seems that omitting those will work too. I can test. I've spent several hours already with this today.
And why does the RSS item links sometimes direct you to old posts? Sometimes I'm shown (showed? which one is correct?) the first post of a long topic, sometimes a random post (not the first nor the last) and sometimes the last. I though that the
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=XXXXX&view=getnewpost link always goes to the last post.
Has anybody else seen this with the search

Yeah, same with my FF 3.0.7: white text.
Same in Chrome and IE 7.
Seems to be inheriting its colour from div#submenu.
Resurrect!
Same with Opera 9.64. White text in the search "popup".

Confirmed.
Resurrect! Just noticed this cosmetic problem again and remembered that above post I made some time ago. Not a show stopper.. but here's it again in case it was forgotten.
Fixed this. Did I break anything else?
Fixed the search text problem. Not the "My Controls page minor style bug" that was before your reply.
Nothing broke I guess.. though for some odd reason "fast reply" button doesn't appear in this topic!?
EDIT: just noticed that the "fast reply" button doesn't appear in CUETools 1.9.5 (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=66233) topic either, what's up? I haven't noticed this before. Maybe it's certain forums where it's available.. sounds odd though.
