Simple question: is there any reason not to switch to tak right now ?
even with 1% over wavpack -hhm I can save 10 go by converting my archive to tak -p5, so as I am running out of hdd space I have a big interest in being an early adopter, but I have some self-made paranoid FUD (Fear, uncertainty, doubt) doing it right now because the format seems to be not yet frozen despite being post V1.0, it's still beta to my eyes despite being rock stable (as far as I tested it) ...
do you already use it on a daily basis ? do you think the F2K tak plugin is as stable as the format ? in fact I almost fear bugs in the F2K plugin more than in the format itself. I need to be reassured as I am not a developer & dunno when a software can be considered safe. A final version for an non-frozen format sound like an oxymoron for me ... usually I would have waited if didn't needed the hhd space so badly.
If you're only going to play it back on Windows machines (for the near, foreseeable future) OR don't mind transcoding to playback in different machines, by all means do it.
I used to use TAK pretty extensively (before I moved to a lossy only collection due to space issues). I never encountered a single problem.
200 GB of my collection is TAK; not a problem at all, rock solid, you can have lot of features (embedded cuesheets, embedded album art). Do it!
Is there a way to convert/transcode to TAK by using foobar?

... feedback sounds good so far
I use TAK as well and couldn't be happier. There's not much more to say. heh

I would always point people to the wiki article (http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=TAK#TAK_with_foobar2000), if one exists. Guides in threads are a crazy idea, as only the OP or a mod can update them.

Flac V1.2.1
Wavpack V4.41
TAK V1.0.4b
CPU: Athlon XP 2400+
I have decided that it was not yet the time to switch for me, as even if I can save a lot of space I only have an a 2Ghz Athlon so it will take me forever to switch a tera to from Wv V4.30 -hm to -p5 & if I only switch to -p2, I will not gain much space ... so I will switch to -p5 at the same time I buy a new CPU & for now I will just buy a new HDD, hoping TAK format gets frozen & natively supported by F2K in the meanwhile. Thks everyone for inputs, specially Synthetic Soul for his comparison.
I made the switch, finally. I bought a couple of DVD-9 media and I can store up to 33 proper albums onto a single disc. (Each of those DVD's have 8.5GB capacity). Seriously TAK is so much faster and it compresses so much better that I ain't looking back regreting at all. For the Linux part, I will just wait.
