Polls / Sound colors of codecs
Last post by Klymins -
Hello. This is my first poll, I hope I'm doing right.

My answer: Sound color is very important for me and I prefer a good sound color over higher quality. My favorite codec is MP3 and my favorite encoder is Adobe Flash CS6 (https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,125914.0.html and looks like FhG). I prefer 16kbps MP3 over the original sound for music in most cases. I hate Opus and all neural codecs.

Support - (fb2k) / Bitperfect audio in v2.x?
Last post by RJVB -
Back from gone for a long time without having followed any of the evolutions, developments etc. so forgive me if this has already been asked, discussed and buried under a tag I didn't think of searching for.

I've been using Foobar2000 for years as the main driver on an old netbook that's perfect as an audio source for the AV amp in my stereo system. I use wasapi to send the raw, unconverted bit stream into the amp over HDMI, and then let the amp do its DAC magic.
I was still running v1.5, and thought I'd update.

After an initial scare about the UI (the "Columns UI" component wasn't transferred automatically), installing the other components I used to use and going over the settings I did a test with one of my files from 2L Recording (5:1 96kHz) and was disappointed to see the amp indicating 48kHz stereo instead. That's with the "non-exclusive" HDMI output.

I don't see a specific "wasapi" output device in the list.

Is the kind of playback I'm looking for still possible in FB2000 v2.x and if so, how do I set it up? I haven't exhausted the various combinations of non-exclusive vs exclusive with or without using events that can be configured (via 2 different subpanels in the prefs ... practical :-/) but I never understood the difference between those in v1.x (they all still do what I'm looking for).

Thanks in advance!

PS: not looking for discussion about whether or not I could hear a difference in the results; I know I probably can't as long as the poor old netbook CPU can keep up ;)

3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: foo_wave_seekbar

I don't remember if macfoo has components but regardless, no, I do not have any plans to touch this component again.
It would be a rough port to make as it uses a fair bit of Win32 and Direct3D.

General Audio / Re: Another audiophile "expert"

Perhaps you can suggest a situation where the sort of thing people are likely to do in SoX (or whatever) will exceed 32-bit processing.  I can understand needing some headroom in the processing chain over the 16 bits of CD-quality, and I can understand that 64 bits provides a much greater dynamic range, but is that amount of dynamic range ever actually necessary?  You can simultaneously mix 65,536 individual 16-bit sources in 32 bits, and that would be one heck of a sound stage.  Can you tell the difference in a blind listening test between 32-bit processing and 24-bit processing, let alone 64-bits vs 32-bits?

It's a more intelligent approach to understand how much resource is required and only throw that much at it.  Just because you "can" doesn't mean you "have to", and being disparaging about other users' choices is narrow-minded and insulting.

Added menu items (under View / DSP) to open individual running VST effects, without having to click through Preferences.
I wonder what it shows there, I guess it's WIP. After switching the presets, mostly it shows only the equalizer, which isn't even part of my presets.
