Winamp "dynamic reducer" plugin

Hello,

first, I apologize if this question has already been answered, but I really don't read much of this "audio related" forums (wich you can see when you reead my lame postings  )...

Now, I'm looking for a Winamp plugin that can reduce the dynamic (don't know if this is the right term, I'll try to explain it more) of the played sound. I have converted all my Audio CD's to MP3, and altough I normalized 99% of the albums I often have quite a difference between the volume (when I play them back of course, ;-) ) between various albums.

So I'm looking for a Winamp plugin that is adjusting the audio level in real-time.

Er, I hope everyone gets what I mean, altough my english sucks big time...

:needhelp:

Thanks and good bye,

Mijo.

both work, but they alter sound quality - don't use them to burn audio cds of mp3s, use eq presets instead

two more plugins that attempt at volume equalization. I haven't tested them though:

you can also adjust the gain level (losslessly) after encoding with http://www.geocities.com/mp3gain/

the right term is normalizing

well, he's asking for digital sound processing during payback
I would call that automatic gain control

but we probably have multiple terms for it

Thanks...

I'm impressed, fast and reliable (I should write the text for commercials, LOL )...

@Gambito: Isn't in the normalizing process the whole file scanned first? In my case this can't be done (and in fact isn't done).

Cheers,

Mijo.

... sorry about that.  Trying to catch up on a few threads so I only skimmed most of the messages.  Good to know it was suggested anyway.

Hihi...

The problem that bothers me is exactly the same as the "The Problem" discribed on the Replay Gain introduction page.

Hmm, it seems that we have to wait until the developers of the MP3 encoders and MP3 players agree on this one (could take a while).

Ah, whatever. Thank you for your posting, first thread posted and such great replies...

Nice board, altough I miss those AUTOCENSORED and AUTOCENSORED from AUTOCENSORED. Hehehe...

Cheers,

Mijo.

Normalizing or Dynamic compression ?

If you're after Dynamic compression ( AGC ) on WAV files try DeDynamic.exe from http://www.divx-digest.com.

Matthias Lenk, the coder of this program, has done the main code in assembler so its quite fast. This code was the basis for his 'world famous' DeDynamic.ax DirectShowFilter that was implemented into PowerDivX3.1 and BSPlayer0.84, allowing us to reduce the Dynamics of the audio in our DivX movies on playback, being essential if no DRC was done on AC3 decoding.

Without that most movie soundtracks are total crap with unnatural high Dynamics, means in silent scenes ( dialogues ) you understand nothing and in loud scenes your PC speakers fall off the table. The filter works fine for compression levels of up to 15 dB, then you can hear a pumping effect that is quite typical for AGC ( this is why DRC should be applied on every AC3 on decoding, at least in level 'light' ). The code is done such that clipping is impossible and there is a possibility to have a 200% amplification as well.

The big benefit from this filter compared to others is the minimal usage of CPU power ( assembler ) , which is necessary for us DivXers as we want our CPU to decode the picture in good quality, maybe with some postprocessing on it, so we need every cycle  .....

The filter is called Dedynamic.ax and hosted from Doom9 ( http://www.doom9.net ) . If you contact me at cwiesner at t-online dot de i can organize a desription of the registry settings of the filter, f.e. if you plan to use it in oyur own programs/players as Blacksun has done in PowerDivX3.1 .
