Title: wonky results when converting mono audio with libfdkaac
Post by: Wally Walters on 2017-04-04 22:14:00
Whenever I try to convert a mono wave file into a 48-kbps AAC file -- using ffmpeg with libfdkaac enabled and HE-AAC v1 and the channel options set to "-ac 1" -- MediaInfo, foobar2000, Adobe Audition and others all report the output m4a file to be in stereo.  Now, I know that the audio hasn't been magically been given channel separation that wasn't there before, so that isn't the problem, but I would like to know how to make the output properly show as being in mono.   But how?

I don't think you can do it.

Even if the players "upmix during decoding," shouldn't MediaInfo know better?
