Foobar2000 can't find music I've loaded in. Can anyone help?

In a couple of folders of music I've recently got, which are:

a) a FLAC with cue; and
b) an APE thing, with a cue

When I load them into Foobar by hitting the cue file, I get
the messages (with every track in the folder):

"Unable to open item for playback (object not found)"

Other FLAC material I've had for some time doesn't seem to
have different files in them, so I don't understand why this
one doesn't work.

As far as APE things is concerned, I suppose it could be because
I'm still using Foobar v1.3.2. If this is the case, I'll have to
get v 1.3.9. OK, I shall, IF that's the cure for that problem.

Anyone got any ideas about these two?

MG

FLAC thing, open up the cue file and check the referenced audio file is correct. What usually happens is the extension is .wav and needs to be changed to .flac.

APE thing, have you installed the monkey's audio decoder plugin? or it's the same problem as the FLAC thing above.
Who are you and how did you get in here ?

I don't know what opening up a .cue means but I looked at the properties of the .cue in the FLAC folder. That says it's .flac.cue. I assume from what you've said, that is what it's supposed to say. The thing plays OK of I lust load it in by adding the folder from the menu, but it doesn't show what track it's on.

The .cue file in the APE stuff has just a .cue extension. I know APEs are MP3s so I guess that's correct too.

I'll try installing that APE decoder plugin. It'll work with v 1.3.2, I suppose?

A cue file is a plain text file describing the content of the audio file
You can edit it using any simple text editor like Notepad

If you do, you will find a line with the filename e.g.
FILE "Music for two Organs from the 18th-19th Centuries.flac" WAVE

The part between the "" should be exactly equal to the name of the audio file.

BTW: APE is not MP3, it is lossless compression like FLAC

Thank you. Is the audio file name the same as the title of the album, or of the folder or what?

MG

Oh, opened it now. I see what it should say - FILE "artist - album title.wav" WAVE because that's what it says.

I checked against one of my other FLACs and THAT says

FILE "artist - album title.flac" WAVE

Not sure what I'm doing still - sorry to be a pain.

AAAAHHH! That's what a man eating duck said - the .wav needs to be changed to .flac!!!!!!

Done that now. Will try it in a few minutes.

Now the other one, that I thought was an APE, also says .flac

Shouldn't it say .ape, as that's what the audio file says?

Zowie, it works!

Now going to try the ape folder.

OK, I changed the ape as I'd guessed, but it still can't play it - says it's an unsupported file format. So I'll download that plug-in and try again.

Still things to learn.

Well, I've installed the plug-in, restarted Foobar, and tried both the versions of the folder - one with the original .cue file which points to a .flac, and the one I invented which points to an .ape. Neither works. Back to can't find the file messages.

What do I try now?

Just tried it. It still says it can't find the files.

I wonder if the problem is that the titles of the tracks isn't included in the .cue files, but only track 1; track 2, etc. If that's not normal, perhaps it's a solution that the ripper took as the titles of two of the tracks are in Japanese script.

Is that a possible explanation?

CD1 is
Stmp0-!55.ape

CD2 is
Stmp1!542.ape

Hey, that was perceptive! - they're not referenced in the .cue files.

Thanks. Awaiting instructions....

^ That's reason why files won't play.

Rename each file like stated in cue at line FILE Sam Taylor - Sam Taylor ''Enka Best'' Ketteiban! CD1.ape or write Stmp0-!55.ape in cue at line FILE.

Great! It works.

As I'd thought, the titles of each track are given as Track 1, Track 2 etc. I'll change them to match the proper titles.

This rip was a hell; of a potch! I've just downloaded another of Taylor's Japanese albums from the same guy (but a .flac) and it all worked perfectly. Must have been in a bad mood.

Thank you all very much.
