Hi

i bought a new dektop , motherboard asus and dvd burner asus ASUS DRW-24B5ST sata

but it weird because sometime it 's avaible and sometime not

i mean i don't know why but sometime the bios doesn't detect it

i guess there are very few brands that sells dvd burners seeing their price


what alternative do i have?

is there only Lg like anlternative ?
if lg is the only alternative is a good dae (audio) burnern?

Is it still under warranty?

I had a problem like that once, and if I remember correctly, changing the drive fixed the problem.  But, it could be almost anything...  It could be the drive, or it could a bad cable or a loose connection, or the motherboard, a BIOS setting, or Windows configuration-setting...

I suppose the easiest thing to do is un-plug and re-plug in the SATA cable and drive-power connectors, and maybe try a new SATA cable before buying a new drive.

Otherwise, a new drive isn't too expensive, and if it turns-out not to be a drive problem a 2nd drive installed in your computer can be handy for copying from disc-to-disc.  Or, just having an extra drive lying-around for troubleshooting situations like this can be handy too.  Or, you can get a case with a power supply & USB adapter and build an external drive.

This post (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=100834) by spoon links to a list of drives and ripping reliability (using data collected by AccurateRip.).  That might be an indication of overall drive quality



P.S.
When it comes to troubleshooting, you never know what the problem is (was) until it's solved.  You can start with the most-likely solution, the cheapest solution, or the easiest solution...  Wiggling-checking the connectors is the free and easy to try.  Changing BIOS & OS settings is free, but if that's the problem it could take a long time to find the problem and the correct setting.

sadly the list is a bit outdated
in the store i can find only 2 brands , i'm talking dvd burners only
lg is not in the list
