Edit: See http://www.myplugins.info (http://www.myplugins.info) for updated version. 2.2
Now supports Messenger 7.0.0632 & 7.0.0777
Updated version now has support for configuration.
Hi shaneh,
the zip archive seems to be corrupted.
Please take a look at my other post also: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....ndpost&p=274509 (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=31486&view=findpost&p=274509)
Bye
Ok, I fixed up the pause/resume problem.
I think it would be nice if someone made a nice GUI, or otherwise made it configurable for the formatting, like I have for Toaster.
Hopefully this .zip wont be corrupt.
Thank you shaneh, so fassst!
Plugin works 100%.
I experienced zip archive corruption again, but maybe guilt of win xp internal zip manager. WinRAR opens successfully.
Zip is corrupt for me. Try using http://7-zip.org/ (http://7-zip.org/)
WinRAR wouldn't open it for me but using Tools > Repair archive proved successful.
No problems for me extracting the file with PowerArchiver .
BTW, somehow I forgot to say... thanks for this class plugin!
Just applied the Mess Patch from mess.be to switch it to Artist - Track and now I'm set to go!
Thanks again for a great plugin!
Hello again. I think I'm missing something , I extracted the file in the zip to the Components folder and I turned on the "What I'm listening to" feature in MSN Messenger but I only get <Unknown Title> - <Unknown Artist> .
All my mp3 are correctly tagged. I need to configure something? .
Cheers and thank you in advance.
EDIT: I'm using Windows Me. Maybe this feature is only available for Windows XP/2000?
For anyone experiencing zip corruption
New problem, i have saw that the plug-in doesn't work with stream tag...
The plug-in shows the name of the radio ( like : "? - Frequence 3")
When i'm deleting the name of the radio, it shows "? - ?"
PS: I'm french, sorry for my english...
Thats because it just uses %title% and %artist% for the track. What is needed is a configuration where you can specify the tag particulars that you want. I do this with toaster with (basically):
$if(ishttp, %httptitle%, %tracktitle%)
You would need to modify the source to either make this configurable, or put in the appropriate tags required for foobar to pick up the correct info.
thank you for the plugin !
I had to repaired the archive with winrar, attachment is the repaired version
Note that the Toaster plugin Ive posted in this forum has the ability to update MSN titles too. It will also let you format the titles to be updated.
Its possible to configure toaster to not show the popups but still update the msn titles if thats what you want.
Hi Shaneh,
I'm using MSN Messenger 7.0.0632 and foobar with your latest foo_msn plugin (got from http://www.myplugins.info/) (http://www.myplugins.info/)).
It's good it now displays artist name first.
When I click on the title in Messenger window, MSN Music window appears as in the screenshot. The album name is right, but the artist seems to be got from the track title...
I tried foo_toaster 0.1.6 and it works correctly instead.
Greetings and thanks for your work.
hmmm, i mustve put it the wrong way 'round. If I fix it, the artist name and title will be reversed again, the same as in WMP.
This is customizable, but foo_msn doesnt have this, use foo_toaster for customisation. You should not use foo_msn with foo_toaster together. I dont see why anyone would want to click on it anyway.. ?
If I fix it, the artist name and title will be reversed again, the same as in WMP.
Yes I noticed, they are reversed with WMP and iTunes.
With both foo_toaster (by customization) and foo_msn I have the good order (artist - title) displayed, but: foo_toaster sends the artist name in the correct way (see following screenshot); foo_msn does not (see screenshot in my previous post).
If possible, I would like to keep using foo_msn because I don't need the (nice!!) features of foo_toaster for now.
I dont see why anyone would want to click on it anyway.. ?
I agree it's useless you click on your own songs, but sometimes I want to click on the ones of my contacts to get some info.
All things considered it's not a serious issue - album title is obtained correctly so I can get info in other ways.
Thanks again!
I have now updated the plugin to support some basic configuration, as well as made the source code public again.
Its available at http://www.myplugins.info (http://www.myplugins.info)
Some further improvements may be to add some better support for http streams etc. Feel free to make updates and send them to me
Great update!! Thanks shaneh!
thx for the update.. what is WM/ID in config panel?
Wm/ID is just windows media content id garbage. You can put whatever you want in there, and use it as an extra field if you like, through the {3} selector.
Be advsied this will be sent to all your contacts even if you arent showing it. When you click on a contacts currently playing song, it uses the fields to try locate the song. If WM/ID is present, it may use that field to try locate the song. So I suppose you could be clever and set it to the wmid of some britney speares song to give people clicking on your song a cute surprise. I assume if the WMID isn't valid, it then uses the album/artist/title to try locate the song.
I havent really experimented with it that much, but the WMP seems to use that field for that purpose, so its labeled as such.
cool... thx shaneh

Ever read TOS #10?
Can anyone help? The plug-in was working fine 12 hours ago, and now it doesn't seem to work.
How can I make i work with newest foobar ?? 0.9 build 5 ..
Quick question, will any of these work with v0.7.1 of foobar?
I like hte style of this version and dont really want to change. When i load it i get a 'could not load dll' message
this should do the trick for DLL load errors:
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=34890 (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=34890)
Doesnt help me
Anyone know if it can be made to work with v0.7.1, or alternatively if the newest version can be made to look exactly the same as, and have all the features of v0.7.1?

I've got this to work with 0.9. This is
experimental but seems to work fine:
- Unofficial DLL (http://stephan.kochen.nl/proj/foo_msnalt/foo_msnalt.dll)
- Modified sourcecode (http://stephan.kochen.nl/proj/foo_msnalt/foo_msnalt.cpp)
I hope Shane is alright with this. I've already had contact with him on modifying foo_msn before and he was okay with it. But I turned out to be lazy and never really sent him anything.
I changed the name to foo_msnalt at his request to set it apart from the official version, though.
doesn't seem to work with windows live messenger :S

It's due to a different display behaviour of WLM beta, but your Msngr 7.5 contacts will see your song properly.
Cool. It works with 7.5.
I found foo_msnalt for 0.9 yesterday.
Looked for the link, can't find it, but I found the plugin pretty easily.
works great with 7.5 thanks
Works like a charm on MSN 7.5, thank you!
got this for 0.9.
its great. configured it just like my notification area pop-up
thanks
foo_msnalt works with foobar 0.9 + WLM 8 build 566
well done
Is it possible to change tags ?
I mean, with shaneh's release, we were able to display this : "[TITLE] - [ARTIST] ([ALBUM])".
I didn't found this options with foo_msnalt

[a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=374896"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]
seems the new wlm uses a different method for display
a workaround is to change the value of "Title {1}" to
%title% - %artist% %album%can't get the parenthesis to work though
till the next release :)
I'm not sure I understand the problem. The MSN format string is still configurable. There's a bug in Windows Live Messenger that it doesn't show the artist, but others (not using WLM) can see it.
Can we have a summary?
What are the best plug-ins to use?
For 0.83 or 0.9, and MSN or Live Messenger?
I have 0.83 and Live Messenger, with the old Toaster, but its been dodgy recently. Especially since upgrading to Live Messenger. What do you guys suggest?
Thanks...
Keep up the good work shaneh!
Okay, looks like I was wrong. They (unfortunately) ditched the format string in the later Windows Live Messenger builds. I've added a Windows Live Messenger mode checkbox to the preferences, and it shows up fine now for me.
Grab it here (http://stephan.kochen.nl/proj/foobar2000.html#msn)
thanks a lot

WLM Bug has been fixed...no need for the special mode now
just out of curiosity but what does WM/ID do?

Looks like it. Odd in the latest WLM though, is that they seem to have switched around artist ({0}) and title ({1}) in the formatting string?

Some windows media player specific identification I think, not sure if it's for the song or wmp itself. You should probably leave it empty though.
Any chance that this can be made to work with 8.0 beta?

Any chance of an update to correctly show tag info for online radio streams?

It seems that way to me as well. I'm using WLM build 689.
I just added a menu item to let user select if show now playing to the msn status bar. (View->Display now playing)
And fixed the parameter order defect. I tested it on foorbar 0.9.3 . It works fine:)

it also works with miranda (http://miranda-im.org) in conjunction with the ListeningTo (http://forums.miranda-im.org/showthread.php?t=10912) plugin. Keep up the good work.

I'm using 812... and it seems to cut off the name of the song? Artist shows up though
EDIT: Unchecking WLM mode fixes it.
hi, could somebody please tell me what i do with the sourcecode? I have no idea
Any chance of an update to correctly show tag info for online radio streams?
Yeah, i'm only listining to radio streams so an (little) fix it would be very nice
Thanks. It works fine.
Hi, i'm using foobar 0.9.4 and MSN live 8.1 version.

This is indeed a fix I'd really like to see in the extension. It would be great if you could do it !

the plugin works with msn 8.1.0178.00 and foobar 2000 0.9.4.2
it doesn't show tag info for radio streams, does it?
I downloaded a different dll from http://stephan.kochen.nl/proj/foobar2000.html#msn (http://stephan.kochen.nl/proj/foobar2000.html#msn)
http://stephan.kochen.nl/proj/foo_msnalt/foo_msnalt.dll
Should I use the aforementioned plugin (it works with MSN v8.1.0178.00 / Foobar 2000 v0.9.4.3) or the one uploaded here?
Also, How do I get the Artist tag to appear
BEFORE the song title?
Thanks
edit: Never mind, I just figured it out...
Foobar Preferences => Display => MSN Now Playing 'MSN format' {1} - {0}, instead of {0} - {1}
It works fine with xp, but i can only use "generic fields" to show on msn. Things like "%list_total%" doesn't seem to work. Is there a way to get other fields in your msn personal message?
I have modified foo_msnalt so now it updates the information of internet radio streams as it changes.
Tested with foobar 0.9.4.3 and MSN Messenger 8.1.0178.00 .
Source included in the zip.

Thanks RayMcCoy! Just what I was after!
it works with foobar 0.9.4.4 and WLM beta 8.5 build 1238.
does this work for anyone? i got the latest 8.5.1302.1018, and it doesn't anymore :/
It's working for me. I'm using foo_msnalt 2.4.

Same for me, I just updated live messenger today and it stopped working. Using foo_msnalt 2.4 :/
Why oh why can't MS just stop re-inventing the wheel? lol
z.
the one HERE (http://stephan.kochen.nl/proj/foobar2000.html#msn) works with foobar v0.9.5 and Live messenger 8.5.1302.1018
supports unicode tags too!! yay!
And simply doensn't work for me...
Is there any config needed?
it works perfectly fine for me. you might want to try AMIP if you can't get this working.

Samurro, you need to take the downloaded dll and copy it to C:\Program Files (x86)\foobar2000\components\ if you're running a 64-bit Windows OS...for a 32-bit Windows OS you need to copy it to C:\Program Files\foobar2000\components\ and you should be able to get it to work. It worked without a hitch when I did that.
Thats a cool plug-in actually, thanks guys.

For everyone who has problems: When I first tried it, it didn't work. But that's because i had disabled "Show song information from windows media player as a personal message".. Maybe that's your problem too, just a thought.
Im sorry if this thread is a little old, but would it be possible for anyone to recompile this component with the newest SDK?
edit: oops, this is strange...
Im talking about foo_msnalt (not foo_msn), because the link from the wiki points to this thread...

I'd also like an update to this component. The source code is available and msn_wlm isn't as good (it displays a song as 'now playing' even if it's just paused). thanks.

well, foo_wlm indeed does show the song on WLM when paused, but there is a "(Paused)" tag at the end. It doesn't really matter to me, IMO...
but if u really want foo_msn style plugin (or foo_msnalt), there is a link to a modded foo_msnalt in the foo_wlm thread:

srsly, someone ought to put this up in the wiki....

Hi, is there an MSN plugin capable of submitting trackinfo from streams (i.e. not the item's name but the currently playing track).
foo_msnalt started to annoy Peter because of somewhat frequent crash reports from it. I tried to fix what I could and added stream title display support. Download version 2.41 (http://www.saunalahti.fi/~cse/foobar2000/foo_msnalt.zip).

Hi, is there a variable or a way to show the name of a streaming radio station as well as the artist and song currently playing?
eg. Radio 1 (blah blah) - Radiohead - Creep
Thanks.
PS (I switched to using this today, I got tired of AMIP wrapper restricting the amount of characters in the title and struggling to work it out properly).
