Yeah, nowadays people in general use PCs less and less. PCs are difficult to work with, they need maintenance, lengthy updates, etc. etc. etc. Your smartphone or tablet on the other hand is instantly available and works uninterruptedly.

Secondly, most people don't actually care what they listen to, they just enable whatever crap youtube or spotify throws at them. Keeping your music organized on your PC is tedious while online you can just click "like" and that's it.

I'd migrated to some streaming service a long time ago but none of them have all the music I like (some 5500 tracks at the moment).

I've seen lengthy updates on smartphones that feel like an eternity and smartphones do require some degree of maintenance even if all you worry about is the battery in it.  What's difficult about the PC usage?  Day to day it's pretty straight forward and easy to use.  It's never been hard for me to keep any of my files organized either.

Don't ask me about PC maintenance - it's my job.  :D

Thanks for depressing me there with that.  So the kids of today are going to be like the old people of yesteryear who couldn't even turn on a computer crowd?

What's difficult about the PC usage?

Other than what was already posted, it's not even just about the difficulty of usage - it's also the fact that you (generally) can't effortlessly carry a PC with you wherever you go. You can't just decide you want to listen to some music, take your PC out of your pocket, start playing some music, and put it back in your pocket. Unless being "at the PC" is your default leisure state (which is predominantly a millennial thing), using PCs to listen to music is just inconvenient.

At home I like to use my PC for playing music.  On the go or outside on a nice day I like to use my smartphone for playing music.  It all depends on if I'm interested in listening to music or not.  Not how convenient it is to be listening to it to a certain way.  At home I prefer to put the phone down and even on the go I prefer not to use it that much.

Meanwhile. Yes, I use my PC to listen to music. And I have a pair of Sennheiser RS 180 headphones, which have a reach that covers most of my house, so I can listen to the music around where I go. I take my phone with me when I'm out, as well as my AirPods Pro, but I don't tend to listen to music when I'm out, it's too distracting.

Since mp3-s are downloaded from Napster and before, the vast majority doesn't care the quality. Those days the network wasn't enough for listening music or Internet didn't exist or you needed use you telephone for Internet or rent another telephone number. Therefore, people bought CDs, tapes or vinyls because other way didn't exist.

But now, is easiest don't keep CDs or you music collection on PC. The vast majority only wants something for doesn't hear the silence. Also, Android 11 removed the default video and music players.
