What have ethics got to do with this?!
Ethics underlies everything and quality and ethics are intrinsically related. One cannot have high quality without an ethical underpinning. Obviously.

This is profoundly untrue. And who's set of ethics? You mean 'ethics that are similar to your own'? And what measurement of quality? This forum is off the rails now: We went from some dude telling his life story, to someone linking me to a half baked metaphysics article.

This is insane. Conversations like this don't make the forum look 'highbrow', but a ramble of pseudo-intellectual nonsense. You people need to get out more (or take fewer drugs).

I need to learn to engage less.
Profoundly untrue? Ethics are different than morality. I'm not discussing morals here. Ethics are not mine nor yours. If anyone is going off the rails, with all due respect, it's you sir.

Philosophy is involved in everything people do, and ethics are a part of that. There most certainly are both ethical and philosophical considerations in terms of software and its development. Certainly the developers can choose which software licences to adopt and this choice is both a practical and a philosophical one.

If you think ethics are 'pseudo-intellectual', I'd suggest you investigate further. I'm sure my philosophy professor, who taught a course on ethics would have been shocked to hear anyone make that statement openly. Just saying.

General Audio / Re: Tool to compare 24/94 WAVs ?

It's probably normal and I've seen the "Not responding" message too. Comparisons in DeltaWave take a while and I think it depends on how fast your CPU is. I doubt it has anything to do with the Windows version.
If I just need to check if two files are the same, I use foobar2000. I use DeltaWave only if I need some details about the difference.

OK thanks again, DeltaWave has shown how many offset samples some 24/96 files are (comparing burned to DVD 11 years ago and pre-burned original files I've recently re-discovered) which is why I wasn't getting a match, it also shows they're still the same, has resolved quite a headache for me, so thanks again, I'll be keeping this tool, I'm sure it'll be useful again....
Thank-You

3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: Eole, a SMP/ColumnUI theme

The interaction logic is in the file JSpss_switch.js : it create empty files in foobar2000\wsh-data\eole-settings. The name of those files is used to communicate with panel stack splitters. For example, the file MAINPANEL_0 says: the state of the main panel is 0 (library panel). So in the PSS script, in order to display the right panel, it searches for MAINPANEL_X, it extracts the last digit, and it shows the library panel and hides the others.

The method you're using above seems to not cause a minor stutter in audio playback when changing panels compared to using script in a PSS panel directly. I'm curious if the .js method you use gets around the play/pause/refresh problem that occurs in a direct PSS script? I haven't done any foobar2000 theme tinkering in quite some time so this was an interesting surprise.
If a file is currently playing, instead of doing a play/pause command, it refresh the stats of the played track, using the code below:
Code: [Select]
			let handle = fb.GetNowPlaying();
handle.RefreshStats();
This code trigger a reevalutation of the "PerTrack" script in PSS. And if no track is played, then it use fb.Play();fb.Stop();

Everything of course. Freeware is an ethical philosophy. A community of contributors happens because of the ethics involved. Foobar2000 and Hydrogen Audio itself would not exist if not for the ethical outlook of their creators and supporters. Just look at the unethical business practices of Microsoft and WMP for a counter point that demonstrates unethical exploitive development.
