Please note: Since iTunes no longer allows you to download album art (http://digg.com/apple/iTunes_No_Longer_Allows_You_To_Download_High_Quality_Album_Art), without buying at least one song of the album, this program is pretty useless.

thanks for sharing. A nice feature would be if the program would automatically go through my music folder and download covers automatically based on the file's name or ID3 tags. If there are multiple choices the program could ask which one to use.

Will add this feature tomorrow or so, don't know how long it will take. I've got a lot of things to do, so please be patient.
Can you also make it embed the art in the tags?

I don't think that is as easy to implement...but one can always use a different program for that such as iTunes or mp3Tag
I worte a cover downloader for iTunes using Delphi and this script (http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/).
I think it's not that bad and should work for you (for me it does ).
It
did work for me, but now it
doesn't. After submitting my search I quite quickly get a dialogue with the mesage "<HTML><HEAD>.". When it first went wrong the message was longer than this (I think it was a DOCTYPE statement), but I didn't record it.
Is this just happening to me?
The online script quoted still works fine.

No. The same here.
Thanks for the confirm - I was surprised that no-one else had reported so I thought maybe my router was blocking it somehow. I've never really figued out the firewall aspect of my router!

I realized too late that something in the used script changed. I'll fixed it and added support for auto-scan and auto-scan with One-Folder-Mode ( One Folder, All Covers ).
I'll update my first post now and upload new version.
EDIT: Updated first post, just redownload the attachment to get the new version. [a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=352535"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]
Now just download & enjoy (and hope it works ).
Many thanks Anas, working great now.
Edit: I've just worked out what the Scan function does. That's cool.

Good to hear that you like it.
I just released a new Version:
0.0.1.3.
See first post [a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=352535"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a].
Thanks Anas for this tool... It works great. Question: could we have the sources of this app ?
Can this work with foo_openwith? I've tried a couple strings, but none of them worked.

Does this app access iTMS directly, based on the PHP source code on that page, or does it take the images from the example script ? The latter is probably not a good idea, especially when he has sourece available

Nope it takes the images directly from the iTMS. The 'Stripped Down Art Search' provides the URL's to the images.

I'm working on it, forgot to say that in my post.
The feature will probably be available in the next version, which I (hopefully) will release this weekend.
Can you explain what I am doing wrong.
I set it up, as I thought the scan was supposed to be done, pointed it at a bunch of MP3s with appropriate tags.
When I click Scan I get the messages you can see, then a list of all the MP3s, but it does nothing.
It works fine in manual mode.
In your notes you say it doesn't check the music folder, yet the message appears to say its looking for a certain jpg, without substitution. Then it says no results. It only takes a couple of seconds to do all this, it isn't going out and looking for anything.
Help?

The program can't read file tags. To use the program you have to have a folder structure (for example D:\Music\ABBA\Album\ABBA - One Of Us.mp3).
I don't know if I ever will add tag support, but I don't think so.
I will try to add support for guessing fields from the filename.
New Version 0.0.1.4 now supports Commandline usage.

If I do an Artist search for "editors" I get:
iTunes Cover Search

Looking for covers...
13 covers found.
Downloading cover #1 of 13...
Downloading cover #2 of 13...
Downloading cover #3 of 13...
Downloading cover #4 of 13...
... in the console, and then a dialogue pops up :
Title: "iTunes Cover Search"
Message: "HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found."
A similar thing happens with the last version (three images appear and then the same dialogue).
I did a search for "ben folds" and the same dialogue appears when trying to download 15 of 19.
Any ideas?

Thanks for reporting.
I looked after it and found this out:
I searched for Editors just like you did and got the same error, so I checked the script I'm using.
I'm using the stripped down art search you can find [a href="http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/itunes-iart.php]here[/url].
I searched there for Editors again and got this results (http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/itunes-iart.php?artist=Editors). As you can see there are all 13 results listed. To get the art URL you have to call the script with the post variable 'pid' which should contain the playlist id.
Let's take the fourth result where the 404 Error occured. You will get this PHP error (http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/itunes-iart.php?pid=2067830).
As you can see it's not my fault , but an error in the script I'm using.
I will try to get in touch with tpemble, the author of this script.
I wrote an email to tpemble and received an answer today:
The reason that playlist doesn't work is because it's an audio book and does not have a track listing. I prevented the error from appearing, though.
Means: I can't get covers from Audiobooks, but the new version (0.1.1.4) now handles this error and doesn't stop searching when it finds one, it also won't display the 404 Error anymore.
Anas, in scanning mode, the default values for Music directory structure and Filename seem to be mixed up - and this causes an access violation.
You're right , thanks for the report. I fixed it now.
You can redownload from the first post, but it isn't neccassary, the problem only occures when starting the program the first time, then you can change the values.
Cool, thanks Anas.
FYI: With the "Ben Folds" search (http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/itunes-iart.php?artist=ben+folds) the offending item appears to be a playlist, not an audiobook - but I suspect there is no way for the script to know the difference, and I don't really care either way if I can't download it. I just thought I'd highlight it though, in case it ever becomes useful knowledge.
Thanks again.
Great program. Just downloaded many covers
A 'stop scanning' button would be nice when it's scanning lots of albums and pulling up balnks cos of incorrect parameters for example.

Added to to-do list.
would it be possible to use the tags of the musicfiles to search for the cover? that would be really neat.
wow, looks like a great program. Here comes the stupid question. Usually, as per Apple's ruthless tyrrany, you can't add covers for cd's you ripped to itunes. Does this program take the url pointing to the image from the itunes store and automatically import it to your file info in your itunes library, thus circumventing Apples "block"?
also, a little of topic. does it take much longer to load tracks (as in, it takes the ipod longer to start playing them) that have covers with them, or add time to the GAP between songs?
thanks for the hard work, looks promising

This program doesn't save album art into tags nor does it interact with iTunes. It just downloads the album art and saves it where you want it.

There's currently a problem with the script I'm using ([a href="http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/itunes-iart.php?artist=Drowning+Pool]error[/url]).
There's nothing I can do about this so please be patient. I think the author of the script will fix this soon (hopefully).
Since the source is available for the php script, wouldn't it make it make sense to be able to specify a custom URL for the script? That way it would be possible to run it on a local server, which not only would make it faster, but more importantely would lessen the load on tpemble server.
I was under the impression you had re-implemented the PHP code in whatever language you are using. I strongly suggest you do this, the source is on the site and its fairly simple to understand (C-like syntax). IMHO, to use his servers is abusive, and will also result in slower cover downloading. If you want a temporary workaround, I posted a PHP script to get iTunes covers directly (based on this code) in the uploads forum somewhere a while ago.

You're right I will implement it directly into the program. Thanks for the hint.
yeah!
thx a lot
Just released version 0.1.1.8 and the source for this version.
Is anyone else having problems with the program now? I had been using it for some time as it was working quite well. Now when I use it to scan a directory it just scans, but doesn't download and save the cover. I can do them 1 at a time with the manual menu, but thats not really the point.
Hi Anas, just discovered your excellent programme! Well done! I just have one request:
Would it be possible to add an option to not search for cover art if the information is incomplete? For example if the programme fails to find ARTIST information and finds ALBUM info only then it skips the folder and doesn't search.
The reason for this is that sometimes if the program only finds album info for some folders and it erroneous eg. '-d'. When it searches this, there are 20-odd incorrect covers downloaded.

Good point. I'll add an option to not search for a cover if one of the pattern fields could not be found.
EDIT: ASFAICS not possible, because there is not cetain way to know when eg an artist is just crap or a real name.
Im searching my music directory:
E:\FLAC
%artist%\%album%
*.flac
Folder.jpg
WinXP w/ SP1
worked fine last time I used it, and as I said it works fine if I use the manual search. It seems to be searching fine, but is not downloading covers.
What other details can I give?
The console output wouldn't be too bad, too. I already have an idea where it could come from, but I'm not sure. Will look into it.
Hey Anas,
Great program, I'd been looking for something like this since I used amaroK.
I don't know if you're familiar with amaroK, but their cover manager is excellent (they use Amazon instead of iTunes, though).
(http://amarok.kde.org/images/stories/albums/1-4-Series/amaroksvn148mp.thumb.jpg) (http://amarok.kde.org/index.php?full=1&set_albumName=1-4-Series&id=amaroksvn148mp&option=com_gallery&Itemid=60&include=view_photo.php)
[span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%']jpg, 586KB
resolution 2624 x 1200[/span]
You really can't tell much from the screenshot. There is an amaroK liveCD (http://amaroklive.com/), which I'm booting into right now with Qemu (http://www.qemu.com/) to see if it's any good.
Anyway, I really like your program, but it lacks that "holy crap, this thing is awesome! it does everything right!" feel which is very seldom accomplished, but very near to it in my opinion with amaroK's cover manager. I think you could easily turn yours into something even better.
One problem I've been having with this program is when I use the scan mode it doesn't see that the folders already have folder.jpg files in them and just overwrites them. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the great program btw.

The programme doesn't need to know this. For example all it needs to know is whether both artist and album fields are filled, and not search if one field is empty..
Yeah, right. I thought of my dir structure when writing this ('_' for empty artist or album).
Will implement this.
One problem I've been having with this program is when I use the scan mode it doesn't see that the folders already have folder.jpg files in them and just overwrites them. Any suggestions?

It shouldn't do this... (who would have thought ) I'll see if I can confirm this.
EDIT: Confirmed and fixed. Thanks for the report.
Thanks. Do I just redownload the file from post#1?
You can do that now, I released a new version.
awesome! thanks
Thanks for the update Anas. There seems to be a slight problem with this version though..
The first few folders parsed will search even if only one field from artist and album is found. This is with a %artist%-%album%.jpg file structure:

I hope my explanation is understandable, and thanks again for your work on this tool.

Stupid me. You keep the covers all in one place, right? I forgot to change the behaviour for this option, too.

Thank you this is such a good handy app
eheh, i'm having problems with this program:
The structure of my musics are this:
D:\Musicas\Albums\%artist% (%year%) %album%
Could someone help me to download covers and save in each folder?
What problems exactly? Any errors? Or can you just not set up the scan options properly? If yes use following options:
Music Directory
D:\Musicas\Albums\
Music Directory Structure
%artist% (%year%) %album%
Filetypes
Whatever filetypes you use
Filename
Folder.jpg
Use One Folder Mode disabled.
Now click Scan.
Thanks, Anas... my problem was that i didn't know how to set it up properly!
Thanks again!
Hi,
I just installed your program and get an error message after pressing the search button which says: "List Index Out of Bounds (1)". This message apperas after "Parsing response..." in the log window.
What can I - or You - do to solve this issue?
Best regards
Franklin
"List Index Out of Bounds (1)"
i get the same thing more often than not, appearing in the log and in a seperate window. it seems to happen whenever there are more than ten covers found???
i also get the "HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request" error, for example with ART "badly" and ALB "one", program is dead afterwards. i'm not sure whether this should have been solved already or maybe it is to blame on the script, but i thought i''d share it anyway.
great program, btw! really looking forward to this...
Thanks for the reports, I'll look into it.
EDIT: Found the bug which caused the "List Index Out of Bounds (1)" error and fixed it. Don't know where this "Bad Request" thing comes from, could be in the script or in the program.
I will release an fixed build later today.
New version available, see first post.
wow, that was quick!! thanx a lot!! and a new screenshot, as well
however, with this new version i can't look for any cover at all: Socket Error # 10061 - Connection refused. and i think i located the problem: the default scriptserver value is "http://localhost/something" - this can't be right, i guess... i tried to paste "http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/itunes-iart.php" in there but this results in a window with html script in it
btw: the "this script" link on top of the first post is not working properly - some spacer in it or something...

I made "http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/itunes-iart.php" as default script and tried and it worked for me. However I uploaded a new build with the above url as default script URL.

Fixed.
I'm seem to have a problem, every time I try and run the program either by scanning or manually using the gui I get this error message:
[attachment=2157:attachment]
I actually have no idea where it could come from, but I'll take a closer look at it tomorrow. Maybe you could post the script URL you are using and if you use Proxy.
i know this is just for the program, but i've tried to upload the script to my own server and
i keep getting an error when i type something to search
Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: citms in /home/arctic/public_html/itunes/itunes-search.php on line 66
this is the search (http://www.arctic.dd.am/itunes/itunes-search.php), any help would be great
You also need this (http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/itms_twofish.phps) and this (http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/ciTMS.h.phps).
now i just get another error
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR in /home/arctic/public_html/itunes/ciTMS.h.php on line 178
Hmm, these files work fine for me. Are you sure you got your search file form this location (http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/).
yeah, i got everything from there
then uploaded them here: http://www.arctic.dd.am/itunes/1/itunes-search.php (http://www.arctic.dd.am/itunes/1/itunes-search.php)
i think it was that i had to get the php4 version of ciTMS
http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/ciTMS.h.php4.phps (http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/ciTMS.h.php4.phps)
but now everytime is search i get
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: domxml_open_mem() in /home/arctic/public_html/itunes/1/itunes-search.php on line 70
Firstly thanks for a very useful tool. I am using it my ripping react script so everything is done a rip time. ( http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....38entry383038 (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=40895&st=0&gopid=383038&#entry383038) )
Just one thing is that when running it in a script and gets no results it errors out and calls up the windows error thing. Is this the normal behavior? When clear the message everything continues alright.
I got the following error:

I had this problem once, too. I found a file which introduces this function, due it does not exist in PHP5.
Although undocumented, domxml_open_mem does not exist in PHP5. See this site for a quick fix:
http://alexandre.alapetite.net/doc-alex/do...5/index.en.html (http://alexandre.alapetite.net/doc-alex/domxml-php4-php5/index.en.html)
I got the following error:
(...)
I'm getting the same error. It seems to be an error with the PHP script. It's time that I port the script into Delphi so I'm no more dependent to it.
i get the same error

it didn't seem to work, i still get the same problem, i should probably give up
Which PHP version does your server run under?
PHP version 4.4.1, that's what it says on the CPanel
Weird... I'm sorry but I can't help you. That's beyond my horizon.
I get the same bug
Weird... I'm sorry but I can't help you. That's beyond my horizon.
do you think you can make an attachemnt of the php files you use?
Eh, just found something in the ciTMS.h.php file I use that should help you:
/*
* ciTMS v0.1.1
* An iTunes Music Store PHP5 class
*
* THIS REQUIRES PHP5
* DON'T FORGET YOU NEED _PHP5_
* PHP4 DOES NOT WORK WITH THIS
* FOR PHP4 VERSION GO TO http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/ciTMS.h.php4.phps (http://tpemble.urfbownd.net/itunes/ciTMS.h.php4.phps)
*
* Thanks to Jesper Nohr of Opera Software for
* converting to become compatible with PHP5.
*
* E-mail me at tpemble@urfbownd.net with suggestions.
*/
yeah, i said i tried that in an earlier post (post #78)
but nothing seems to work
Whoops sorry, must've overlooked that. Anyway I've attached the files I use.
thanks for all the help , but they still didn't work!
however, i did remember one of the hosts that I used provides PHP5 and I uploaded the files there, and they worked! (http://www.xran.5gigs.com/itcd/index.php)
sorry for all the trouble
Glad it now works.
What if I have an optional folder?
My structure is like this
M:\(First letter of the artist)\%artist%\%album%
What should I put?
Thanks in advance.
Is it the same folder as your music files?
If no this isn't yet possible.
g' evening,
i just want to suggest some workflow improvements for your wonderful program: if you are manually searching for covers, there should the artist and album info already be written in the save dialog so you don't have to type it yourself.
the search should start if you press enter (or any other hotkey - i don't like clicking with the mouse if i had entered the artist, album info...)
i would suggest if you right click an picture it should be opened in it's full size, because sometimes it is hard to choose which one is the right if there are more pictures found.
well, i hope, some of my suggestions are implemented if it's not that hard to code, because then the program would really be perfect
so long,
thomas

If you have the filename option set it will be automatically written into the file save dialog.

You're absolutly right, it will be available in the new version
i would suggest if you right click an picture it should be opened in it's full size, because sometimes it is hard to choose which one is the right if there are more pictures found.
Done. Right click and hold on an picture resizes it to 300x300px. That should be big enough.
well, i hope, some of my suggestions are implemented if it's not that hard to code, because then the program would really be perfect
It will still be far from perfect, I still keep finding bugs.
New version (0.2.0.7) is announced in the first post (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=40067&view=findpost&p=352535).
i am having a fairly easy time using this, however i have a question
What exactly does the scan function do?
It scans your media library with a given sheme.
For example if you have an directory structure like:
%artist%\%date% - %album%\%tracknumber%. %title%
The scan function would detect the parameters automatic and search for a cover and if it finds one save it in a specific place.
iTunes No Longer Allows You To Download High Quality Album Art.
http://digg.com/apple/iTunes_No_Longer_All...ality_Album_Art (http://digg.com/apple/iTunes_No_Longer_Allows_You_To_Download_High_Quality_Album_Art)
What a sad day, well goodbye 600x600 cover art.
This sucks. I loved this program and iTunes has the BEST cover art by far. Great quality.
So where else can you get album covers? :/
Amazon is OK sometimes, but not often enough for me.
You could try the 500x500 Walmart covers, they have an quite decent quality, too.
Other than that I yet didn't found any website with or near the quality the iTunes Music Store had the covers in.
Walmart's are good for what they have but the selection is way limited. anyone know where to get good scans of rarer albums?
I usually use --> http://www.slothradio.com/covers/index.php (http://www.slothradio.com/covers/index.php) for my covers, it seems to get them from Amazon.
http://www.cover-paradies.to/ (http://www.cover-paradies.to/) is not bad either.
it got many high resolution albumart images and also offers images of the backside and CD, etc...
the downside is that most of the database are self-made scans uploaded by users and some are bad quality.
overall is a pretty nice site though
Tich
Damn, too bad I just found out about this today... I've been using Amazon and Discogs for all my coverart...and I just got a glipmse of iTMS art!
what happen with this program??
i've itunes cover downloader v.0.2 and i don't obtain anything .... the link is broken ?
i read a samethig about apple blocked the access of server of cover ... is true?
guys got any cover downloader for CHINESE ones?
i read a samethig about apple blocked the access of server of cover ... is true?
Yes. iTunes won't let you download covers for free anymore.
Try http://www.itunescovers.com/ (http://www.itunescovers.com/), its free, it worx, its online, its simple
nice link, but since it requires itunes it might be quite useless to most foobar users
i still hope david_dl can take a look at http://printf.dk/itunes_7_fetching_artwork_for.html (http://printf.dk/itunes_7_fetching_artwork_for.html) and throw together a .boo script for his marvelous CoverDownloader

Yes, it would be excellent if we could get it working again. Take a look at the comments on that page, link to both Python and C# examples
Is there a way to match foo_run with this page : http://printf.dk/cgi-bin/i7AWF.cgi (http://printf.dk/cgi-bin/i7AWF.cgi) ???

This is useless for people here because you need to have itunes installed

it also fetches the images from amazon and not iTunes
anyway i think someone who has some knwoledge about all this stuff can do something great now since itunes can give acces for free to the covers without any account.
If someone can look at this link:
http://printf.dk/itunes_7_fetching_artwork_for.html (http://printf.dk/itunes_7_fetching_artwork_for.html)
and tell us if there is a possibilty to make these itunes cover downloader working with foo_run, with a python script or somethin, it would be really neat
CoverDownloader (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=43429) has support for these new covers
thank you so much david_dl
great thank you for your work
does it only work for itunes??
which is the last itunes version able to download covers without buy albums?
actually it's working with foobar, but if you want to use itunes the last version will do it
since somes days i can't get covers from google ( with cover art downloader).
am i the only one?
I havn't been able to pull any google results lately either, however I have begun to see occasional iTunes results which was supposed to be broken. The google images result pages still look the same, maybe they beefed up their browser detection or modified the underlying code of the page.
