As I was tired to wait for such a plugin I decided to code it myself. It is derived from foo_uie_search [Credit goes to Peter, Foosion, Mister P & tbhoerer] and provides with a very basic search toolbar that will send results of the search to a playlist of your choice.
The playlist name and the tags to search for are configurable, as well as other options (See config. page). Other options are configurable on the fly from the toolbar icon. Extended search (playlist gen syntax) and context menus (Search for same ...) are also supported.

What search algorithm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_algorithm) are you using?

Also, you should consider making it possible to use the currently active playlist as the search source, when a query is entered.  Or maybe put a button (toggleable?) which could say "search in this playlist" or whatever.  Maybe a menu entry, and the button could be added with columnsui.

• You can already map a hot key to the Component/Quicksearch toolbar menu. It will make the toolbar grab the focus
• Mode 1. and Mode 2. are already available as well
• I will probably not implement the "add remove as you type" feature

Thanks for the suggestion, but the search code is already functional and I want to keep this plugin as simple as possible, and configuration options minimal.

My mistake, I did not know one had to enter all the tag values. I assumed it would find exact matches per tag.

When using MATCH ALL or MATCH ANY if I query for a string like abba, I will also get results like black sabbath. Is there a way to make my searches boundary specific? So if I query abba I only get tags containing the word abba. Using quotations perhaps [in future versions]?

Match All means that a track will only be selected if all keywords (separated by blanks) entered as the search string are found in the track tags.
Match any means that the track will be selected if at least one of the keywords is found in the track tags.

now, please take this just as a question, I don't want to rush you into something or demand it from you... besides your to do list, do you have somewhere in the back of your head, the intention to make this a real panel with the search results appearing in it (in a similar way it is done with foosions dbsearch, only docked on)?

yes, i too reckon this would probably work best as a complete panel. but maybe that's beyond the scope of this plugin and could be added by someone else if you release the source code later on.

Yes, a result panel is not in my plans at the moment, mainly because I prefer the results in a playlist to benefit from colomn UI formatting.

Glad to see the To Do List is getting smaller and closer to the 0.9 port.

I no longer need to click around the album list to find what I want. I just type in the artist or genre of music. Thanks Nemo, this plugin rules.

Just curious, termite, why are you using the old version of foobar still? Personally, my biggest gripe with the current version is merely the non-existence of a quicksearch plugin

I still use 0.8.3. That's the reason I want to finish all improvement and fixes before porting to 0.9, to avoid to manage several versions.

I have an idea for this plugin though I'm not sure how practical it would be. An in-line search history like the firefox search bar.

I think it would be very useful being able to have a list of different tags presets. I.e.

- people (artist/album artist/performer/composer etc)
- words (album/title/venue etc)
- instruments (instruments/form/work etc)

and everything one can imagine.

It should be avilable on the right click menu or through a drop down box.

It's nice to see the 0.9 version is coming closer and closer every day.
Some idea about "Same search", it could be something like special google commands, e.g. if you'd type same:artist (same:<tag>) it would search for the same tag field as the selected item and samenp: to force same as now playing.
This would allow for a quick way to do what you want, instead of having to right-click>select new mode which should be reserved to rarely modified behaviors.

I'm also having a problem with the update. I can see the icons ( + sign, folder, arrows etc) in the prefrences, but not on the toolbar.

I get the same bug (XP SP2, foobar 0.8.3). I use only the undocked bar.
I also wonder why there is an unused space on the right of the bar.

They work for me  .

If you're wondering why they are 'greyed' out it's cause you have to actually make a change in the first box below the buttons. If you change that box, it enables the change button. If you alter the second box (%****%) it enables the add button. No point on having them enabled all the time if they are useless when you haven't made alterations .

Could you possibly make the background of the icon area customizable? My theme is all dark colors (blacks, blues and greys). The background of the icon area is bright white >_<. The text input background color is changable, so I'd hope it wouldn't be to hard to code :S? If not, thats okay.

It is also the intended behaviour (background should apply to the icon as well) and working fine here on W2k, but for some reason it is spoiled with XP. I'm currently fighting to have it work on XP as well.

I think it's rather comparable with the Playlist Search (F3). The advantage is that you don't have to press F3 first because it's a panel

I am currently working on the resizing (which is not supported at the moment, window is fixed size only). Should be included in the next version. If in the short term you want to get rid of the little annoyance above, just launch foobar once without the plugin ... reinstall it and it should be ok.

I do have ClearType on and have the powertoy too.  If I disable ClearType the text doesn't get darker after each letter, but the weird highlighting still happens.

It's difficult to put into words, but it seems there is something weird going on with the text field updates.  If I highlight something in the field and press delete, the highlighted text stays visible and remains so even if I type over it.  If I move away from the search box, the text goes back to normal.

I haven't experienced this in any other programs and playlist find works fine for me.

I like your search bar.. it's basically the same idea I was gonna implement, using the database search functions.

However, I still need these key features:

I would really like it if u saved the playlist (because I use the Default playlist as my only playlist, just one simple scrolling library) and then displayed the search results automatically as they are found (a.k.a. apple spotlight, or ajax search), and when I click on the search bar again, it should restore my previous playlist.

For example, when I do a Ctrl + F and bring up the existing playlist search, it has that automatic "spotlight" like searching, but it shows the results in a separate window.

would this be too hard to implement? That is what I originally imagined since I like the simplest interface possible.

I just realized how to implement this with the tools u already have. I'll leave my default playist name "Default" and have the search output to a different playlist.

Then, when I am done with that window, when I click somewhere other than the playlist (like the search bar) the "Search" playlist is deleted.

So With my basic setup, the Default playlist is put into the background, and the Search in the foreground. When the search is done, it's playlist is deleted and the Default list comes back to the foreground..

Possibility? I guess u would have to implement a "close the search playist" after done.

Or you can enable playlist tabs and enable tabs autohide. When searching it brings a new tab to the foreground. When you're done with that you can just right click and close the tab. Brings you back to default playlist.

Version 1.2 works fine here. No problems so far.

Undock and redock and it should disappear. The problem happens when you change icons while the toolbar is docked IIRC.  Fix will be part of the next version.

The only problem I have had recently is this:

With the new update, my favourite icon (the blue cross) was gone. So I reverted to the magnifying glass (*shudders*). I decided to make my own icon. I created a 32x32 bitmap in photoshop, and saved it as a 32 bit image. It was a square with an S on it .

Anyway, I go into the prefrences, search for the image, and load it up. All was fine. I went to the file location, and cut and pasted it into my foobar directory. Went back into foobar, and the icon was a magnifying glass again. So I searched and found the bitmap I created, but I got this error:

ERROR (foo_uie_quicksearch) : Number of images in bitmap must be even

I get that with every image I try to load now  . Other than that, things are working great... back to the magnifying glass for now  lol

your bitmap should be 16 X 20 (check the help tab in preferences)

It works fine now lol. No need for resource hacker . All is well .

Version 1.3 and 2.0 (now compatible with foobar V0.9) are out. Check first post for downloads.

Please note: Porting to 0.9 was nearly a nightmare (for a C++ noob like me), so I do not not guarantee is is totally bug free. Functionalities should be the same as version 1.3, except in rare cases (dock/undock) because of the different behaviour of the column UI SDK. Please report any problem, ... or even if you have none.

For the moment, no bug at all

That's a nice component. I'm using version 2.0 and if the search string is longer than the text box you cannot see what you type anymore because existing text doesn't move to the left (doesn't get hidden).

First thing thanksssssssss for porting it to 0.9. Yet there is something i am not sure about. I see in the to do list "font customization" and it looks like done but i cant find it in the config panel. Is it hidden ? may be i am just blind, in fact i am a little bit

Thanks for reporting ..... it is now fixed [I guess in Version 2.0]. Please redownload from first post .... as this bug could cause a crash in some circusmtances. The intended behaviour of the function key is to set the focus to the toolbar if it is docked and just activate/deactivate is it is undocked.

Using the latest 2.0 version with col UI 0.1.3 beta 1v5.7 and I've noticed that on typing a string, if I press delete, the characters do not clear themselves on the screen, with any new text typed being displayed over the top of the old, creating a mess.

Would also like to see an option to view all available files, perhaps with a button, or simply allowing me to press return (with no text in the box).

there seem to be some issues with the font, however, and i'd just like to add that i'm having them too.  here's a screen shot.  i entered a search term, tried to delete it, but the text didn't disappear, then i typed in some more letters and they seem to have just overlapped the old ones:

I have an issue with searching 'all playlists', search type 'match all' and tagz string 'standard' (the default one). E.g. I do have 20 songs from an artist, but when I type in the name, only a max of 5 songs show up (at least not all)

Then a suggestion. For the 0.8 version, one could add a keyboard shortcut to focus the field and do a normal search. Now you can add a focus-shortcut only if you want to search the library

Great plugin! I've been waiting for 0.9 ever since you made it available for 0.8.

A few things however
- Nowhere to change font in 0.9 version as suggested in the changelog
- pressing Reset to reset Tagz and then hitting Cancel resets them anyway
- if search string is wider than the the actual panel and you keep typing, the text doesn't shift to the left as it normally would with any other textbox. Try in any small textbox to get the idea.
- would be nice to see the text align in the middle of the panel. Right now it sticks to the top. Not sure whether it's a design flaw or just left to be done later.

I'm on XP SP2.

If those things were already mentioned, please don't yell.

I have the same problem, also delete and backspace doesn't clear the characters.

OK, regarding the overwriting problem on typing a couple of characters, the text turns bold, almost as if the box has rewritten itself without clearing initially (though if I try to delete the characters before they turn bold they will still not delete so I'm assuming that the problem occurs after the second key press).

I've tried removing components to see if the problem was there, but no luck, perhaps it has to do with chipset, I'm using an Athlon FX-51 (essentially an AMD 64),  on my other computer, which is a non 64 bit processor (but still an Athlon), the problem does not occur on either 0.9.1 or 0.9.2, perhaps the 64 bit could be a contributing factor (though I'm pretty sure I'm clutching at straws)?  The Foobars are set up in exactly the same way.

I have an AMD 64 with no problem. But i must point out that i have a 32 bit winXP

Mine's a AMD Duron 1800 KT333 chipset (ancient), if that helps.

I'm having the same problem frankthechicken and others have reported concerning the non-clearing of the search box. I'm using foobar 0.91 with the latest Columns UI (0.1.3 beta 1v5). Windows XP SP2 Fr on a HP NC6120 Laptop (Intel 915GM)...

Well, seems you are using the "Library view" as your primary playlist, so...
Target Playlist: Library view (without "#")
Uncheck "append search string..."

This plug-in is awesome, but i do have some bugs to report for you. (And i know some of these have already been reported, but i'm going to report them again anyway. Maybe it'll help somehow.)

OK, i'm using Windows XP SP2, foobar 0.9.1, Columns UI 0.1.3 beta 1v5, and quicksearch 2.1. (And, although i sorta doubt it matters, i have an Athlon XP with i think an nVidia chip set, maybe, and a GeForce2 graphics card. Also 32-bit colour depth. :shrug:) Here are the problems i've had:


(1) The display of the font itself is a little off. It might be an anti-aliasing problem or something. Sometimes it gets discoloured, like it is here:

(See the red on the b.) It also has dicoloration as i'm typing. For example, i'll type 'b' and it'll be the normal black-ish font colour, and as i continue typing (to 'be' and then to 'ben' and so on) it gets progressively darker and maybe bolder.


(2) As you can see in the above picture, the vertical alignment still seems a little off somehow. I think (judging by how edit boxes in other programs like Windows Explorer look) that it needs to go one pixel lower.


(3) I'm also having problems with the box clearing its contents. For example, in the following screen shot i have 'ben folds' in the box (#1), and then i decide i want to search for 'no doubt' next. So i highlight the contents of the box (#2) -- whether i do this with the mouse or keyboard doesn't matter -- and then i type in 'no doubt'...  but it just writes on top of 'ben folds' (#3). I also noticed (as someone mentioned on the last page) in the process of creating the screen shots that if i Alt+Tab to Photoshop and then back to foobar (causing the window to redraw) the glitch kinda fixes itself (#4).

Just tried 2.1, the hotkey now works perfectly thank you ! I would have a small request about the hotkey's behavior though. It would be great if it actually selected all the text while setting the focus, so you can start typing right away and erase the previous search if there was still something in there.
And about selecting all the text, Ctrl-A doesn't work here, but that's less important.

And finally I don't know why but when I download the file with opera the mime type is set to application/x-msdos-program, and the file extension is .exe. With IE it worked fine though. I don't really care as I can rename a file but if you can look into it some day..

That should be already the case (the results playlist should be the one selected after a successfull search).

Hmm ... not sure this should be a priority; the plugin was aimed at building a playlist as a first goal.

(1) ...(4) Thanks for the detail report .... at least i see what's happening. I must admint I have no idea of how to fix this, and I could not reproduced on any of the two machines I have. I would suspect a systems issue (nvidia ... cleartype fonts ... ) and graphics cards drivers update might be a good idea. Please include your detailed configuration in further reports if any, so that we can circumvent the problem.

Could not reproduce .... the crash log does not show evidence of quicksearch being the reason for the crash. Try remove other components and let me know.

As Seldaek says, the problem is not with the extension of the file but the MIME type. You can fix this with a webserver setting, or the easier way would just be to put it in a zip file which should be recognised as a regular binary file and preserve its .zip extension when downloaded.

I know, but it must be a mime type configuration problem, in the apache settings the mime type for dll should I think be application/octet-stream, and free.fr must have it set to application/x-msdos-program, which result in good browsers following the rules to think it's a program and name it .exe. I don't have a solution besides zipping it next time as you don't have access to that kind of settings with Free hosting. The other solution would be to have a download.php, which would be like that:

I have an issue with searching 'all playlists', search type 'match all' and tagz string 'standard' (the default one). E.g. I do have 20 songs from an artist, but when I type in the name, only a max of 5 songs show up (at least not all)

Well, I guess I found the problem. When searching 'all playlists' and using the history plugin, it searches only in the history playlist

FYI: Opera 9 beta downloads your file as *.exe, ppl will have to rename it to .dll
This may be an issue about http headers sent by the webserver.

As NEMO said: the main purpose of quicksearch toolbar is creating a new playlist with the search results. In combination with "quicksearch for same" by context menu and all the settings where and how to find you have a powerful tool. However: Sometimes i don't want to have a new playlist but just like to find some tracks in active playlist to apply a command (add to playback queue,...) or simply doubleclick a track to be played. I miss the feature of foo_playlistfind or foo_uie_search that highlights the tracks that matches the criteria.

My simple request: If settings are "search in playlist" then all matching tracks are highlighted in active playlist and oppurtunity tu use arrow buttons to navigate through selection (using them also points focus to playlistview so that enter key could start playback). Applying "search as you type" on active playlist and not on whole database wouldn' be so slow, i think.

And not to forget: NEMO, thanks for your plugin. It is great!

He already did that! I believe it is not possible as longas you don't have an option "whole words" that has to be combined with all types of searching.

Would you please implement Perl Regular Expressions as well (there should be libraries out there)... Then we would have a mighty, standard, search expression... Perlre is universal and anyone know it.

On my computer, yeah, that would be right. If i compare the text in the address bar in Explorer (which is the same pixel-height as the quicksearch bar and also uses an icon in front of the text) to the text in the quickbar, the one in Explorer is one pixel lower.

I obviously don't know if that's the same on every system, though. :/

Well it doesn't bother me too much, i doubt i'll ever enter a search term that big anyway. I personally wouldn't mind a fixed-width box, but i can see how it would cause problems in layouts other than my own.

Did you try that: title HAS ' time ' ?

So if you have space after the first quote you will find whole words but only if they are not at he beginning or end of the title.

"Times are good" won't be found
"It is time" won't be found
"What time it is?" will be found

I don't know what's the exact problem behind this, but maybe if you would allow the size to be set in the options, that way it would be fixed but dynamic..

That would be a workaround I have already thought of. I would prefer to resize the controls according to what resize is done by hte user on the toolbar area, but I need to chack and understand if / how this capabitily is offred by the SDK.

I would like to add another request for searching as you type. For people with really large libraries (or really slow computers) you could have it so that it will only automatically search after the input has changed and user has stopped typing for a certain amount of time (maybe about 20ms). That way, it won't cause major slowdown. Plus, it would just be an optional feature, anyway.

this is a wonderful idea

I use foo_playlist_name_enhanched to append the songnumber/length of each playlist (for use with the playlist tabs). I can't have the option of appending the search term to the end of the playlist, as foo_uie_quicksearch encases the search term in brackets ([]): foo_playlist_name_enhanched replaces the contents of the brackets.

So I see the search term within brackets for a moment, and then it is replaced by [songnumber / length]. Here is my request: have some sort of way of changing the character used to encase the search result for appending to the end of the playlist, perhaps a switch between [] and <>.

Hmmm? I use keyboard shortcuts but not so many because i can't remember them all!

In most cases i use following settings: search in active playlist the standard tags by match all. It is annoying always to switch back to this setting after using another one. What do you think about defining a default setting wich is automatically called after a search strin is reset? Even no need to bloat preferences - just a command like "Save as default" in context menu.

Edit: I read the to do list. Instead of automatically switching why not using doubleclick in icon for applying default settings

I have mine added by using the columns ui layout.

But also my quick search isnt located on the default button toolbar.  I noticed it doesnt show up when you try to add it there..

A possible solution would be to remove all of the toolbars and then put them back in place using the columns ui layout...

There is just one request i still have: What do you think about a button right or left from the toolbar that opens a menu with presets for the filter strings. i am thinking about presets that don't recall the history and that can have names in the menu. Example: I have a preset "Top favorite" and then i click it the string "%rating% Greater 3 AND play_counter Greater 100" is sended to toolbar.

With the old version I liked searching in Database only... but with the current implementation the search in Active playlist only rocks
I'm stiil waiting for kbd shortcuts like ctrl + enter and ctrl+shift+enter though...

first problems...

Let's supose I have 2 tracks that contain the term 'godsmack' one somewhere at the beginning of playlist, the other somewhere at the end.
If I use inline search it highlights the first file and if I press key down selection goes to the next track in the playlist ... not the second result with godsmack
This is normal behaviour I'dd say but I'dd really like the functionality from foo_playlistfind where pressing key down would cycle through the results... (without losing focus from search box of playlistfind    )

Cycling through the results by using down and up arrow keys is the last step to replace playlist_find.

Jumping from one result to the next (or the previous) is available through down (up) arrow key.

Obviouslly, for it to work, you should uncheck the "set focus on search result" option in the preferences, because once the focus is set on the playlist window and you do something (enter or arrow keys), the selection is lost. This has nothing to do with my plugin.

Just as a reminder: in playlist find, focus was always kept on the toolbar.

I don't like to repeat a request but would to mention one advantage more of search-as-you-type for searching in active playlist:

You would not loose oppurtunity to create search result playlist, you could leave "set focus to search result" checked and due to that you wouldn't need the "Escape" key. 

Search as you type would not change behaviour of windows focus.

BTW Version 2.5 is out with menu key (Alt) and options to override "Search in ..." settings (Shift+Enter=Force search in playlist, Ctrl+Enter=Force search in all playlists, Ctrl+Shift+Enter=Force search in database).

Ive got a database of about 30,000 songs and the database search demo is nearly instant for me as I type. I'm not even on a particularly powerful PC (it's a 1.86ghz Pentium-M notebook with 1gig of ram).

Would it be possible to have auto-hiding toolbar? I'd like the searchbox to be hidden by default. When I press activation hot-key, it would show up. Then, when I press Escape, it would hide again.

Or maybe a better place to request this is ColumnsUI itself: it could show hidden panel when it becomes active...

The way I use this is I have search results always sent to a playlist called "Search Results," with nothing appended.  When I do "Search in playlist," a successful search will delete the "Search Results" playlist.  Can this be prevented?

1. do inline search
2. wait for current song to end and next song start
3. search is cancelled... and moreover: pressing enter doen't search again

EDIT: Oh, I see, it does not work on the database search, only in playlists.

If I have this option turned on and type a string, which doesn't match the playlist, the plugin marks the complete string I have written, so if I go on typing, I overwrite what I wrote before. But hey, I may want to have playlist inline search as default setting, and override it by pressing "strg+shift+enter", to search in the database!

The new options are rad, but i have two more bugs for you i'm afraid. :(

(1) When in-line search is enabled, the dreaded text-display bug returns. Like, the text flashes all bold and ugly-looking for a second. It fixes itself after you're done typing, but it still looks horrible while it's happening. I wonder why it does this, are you using something special to display the search string? :/

(2) There's sort of a glitch with the in-line searching option. In the preferences panel, for some reason you grey out 'Inline "Search as you type"' when 'Search in playlist is performed inline' is unchecked. But you don't disable in-line search when it's greyed out. So, for example, if i uncheck 'Search in playlist is performed inline' but i leave the other one checked, it'll search both in-line AND normally. (So it'll pop up the search-results play list after you type a few characters, and if you continue to type it'll perform an in-line search on the results list, which is crazy.)

The new options are rad, but i have two more bugs for you i'm afraid.

(1) When in-line search is enabled, the dreaded text-display bug returns. .....

(2) There's sort of a glitch with the in-line searching option. In the preferences panel, for some reason you grey out 'Inline "Search as you type"' when 'Search in playlist is performed inline' is unchecked. But you don't disable in-line search when it's greyed out. ......

Hello, I moved from 2.3 to 2.6 and I'm having problems with the searches.

I'll put an example
I want to search for this song in my database:

Title: Glacial Skies
Artist: Keiki Kobayashi
Album: Ace Combat Zero The Belkan War OST

In 2.3 I searched the database for "zero glacial" using the standard string -> Ok, worked correctly
In 2.6 I make the same search, and doesn't show anything.

"ace glacial" works, "combat skies" doesn't work, "combat glacial" works

What can be happening?
Is that a bug?

Hm. Actually, i just checked how the search tool bar does things in 0.8 and it seems like i was wrong about that function anyway. :p

He's right.  I can't produce any of your bugs.  Using Dell Inspiron 600m, 1.4ghz here.  Maybe you just need a restart.

There's some misunderstanding... the inline search works only in the active playlist (logic I'dd say )... but there are options to search the database too

There's no misunderstanding...I know the plugin can search the database, but not as-you-type (this was only enabled for inline playlist searching) which is something I had been requesting.

Sometimes, I don't remember the current setting of quicksearch and to see them I have to scroll through different context submenus, so:
why not transform the toolbar into a small panel where we could have always visible the "where" and "how" and "what" settings, maybe as radio buttons and, for tagz fields, checkboxes (one for aech tag and/or each preset)?

If you consider this out of the scope of the plugin just ignore this.

How about if the searchbox had some greyed-out text when it was out of focus and clear? It could just read something like "Match All in Database using Standard" etc (not sure if that should be the exact wording but you get the idea)

yay finally found the inline option, it was almost as if when I was running 2.3 the option wasn't there but when I upgraded to latest I could see it... now I am one happy chappy

You could create a minimum search string length if you think it will be a problem. I'll say it again...I've been using the database search demo toolbar to do dynamic searching of the database and have experienced no problems in terms of performance.

ye i tried that, yet it isnt available to choose from. It is defintely "installed" because i can see the quicksearch preferences., just not the plugin itself.

You may strike out "Release version 1.4 for 0.8.3 users" of your to-do-list!

..I think it's a bug. If there is already text in the box, and you press a key bound to 'Quicksearch Toolbar', the text in the box isn't highlighted until you start typing. The upshot of this is that many searches have their first letter truncated.

Can't reproduce here ... focus back to the toolbar should recall exactly the same cursor position and text selection/highlight.

Minor bug I've noticed: After a quicksearch is performed, the "Undo" function returns the playlist not to the state before the search, but to the state before that one, as if it doesn't count the quicksearch as a modification. Hope that makes sense. Not sure if there's an easy way around that, since it might be outside of your component's control, but I thought I'd let you know.

This would be a great feature  . At the moment I use "MP3 Rat" to organize my music collection just because of this feature. I have 7K files and it doesn't cost any CPU power to search for an "a". I don't know about the speed of the foobar database, but I can't imagine this feature would make trouble. Though it would make the search much more comfortable. In most cases you would no longer need to enter a complete search string. Often a few letters are enough to see that there is only one or a few match(es) left. You know it from the standard search with F3. But it is much less flexible than your component. E.g. you can't use the standard search as a toolbar and it has no columns.

I also thought of something else. 2 modes. Mode 1: Searching the playlist. And mode 2: Searching Library, adding/removing tracks to a playlist as you type. This would be the ultimate track finder and best Library browser imo.

It's not just because it looks cool or because people are lazy, search-as-you-type really does improve usability. If you can see how narrowed down your search is while you type, often you don't need to type as long of a search string, or it will show you in real time that your search needs to be more specific.

I agree with alphaex32 and I do not fear this would be a computer newbie trap or support intensive ("why is searching that slow???!11!??"?"). Keep in mind: Any foobar user is kind of computer expert  and will understand if he has low cpu ressources and a huge database. OTOH there might be millions of people with lot of cpu power...

Yup, the plugin needs an easier way to see in which mode we are.

I have already added a tooltip that shows which mode you are, just move your mouse on the icon. Different icons is a good idea however.

And while you're at it, could you change the behavior of the search history?
When I do an inline search, let's say for "trail of the dead", my history looks like this:

trail of the dead

trail of the

I guess if you do as Manticorr says, it won't be a big problem, so just give it a low priority

To prevent that problem in the history for search-as-you-type, you might want to set the delay pretty long, maybe as long as 4 or 5 seconds, so that only the main searches are saved. Of course the actual searching delay should remain short at about .5 seconds.

The inline "search as you type" doesn't seem to work over here...I always have to type what I want, and then hit enter.  Also, when deleting the text to search for something new, the playlist remains on the last search results...so I have to use the browser to sort of "reset" the playlist...or am I just not using this plugin correctly?

search domain has to be to be Active playlist for it to work... as stated many times in this thread

Map a short key to the main menu entry : Library/Quicksearch Toolbar. if the toolbar is already active it shoud receive the focus.

- What does pressing Enter do? I have to press it twice to play...
- When QuickSearch is open, but has no focus it closes when I use shortcut "j".
I have to press it twice, then it opens and gets focused.
- If you make a typo (the song is not found), then it selects text, and next character deletes all.
For example: i'm trying to search for "3 doors down", and accidently type in "doops" - it deletes doop, and finds "s".
- I too would like to see integrated search, as a toolbar.

the problem i have is when i do a search, the created playlist result sorts my songs in a weird order, is there a way to set it to sort the way i like?  like by album.

I just realized its also available as a floating panel. Great! I start it like this on one machine using a shortcut, this is very useful.

If the search is successful, the playlist in background gets the focus.

Would you please add an option "Close floating panel when successful"? Then we will not have to press tab+esc or use the mouse...

Here's an odd one: When my search string is a five letter word and a six letter word (e.g. "yankee hotel"), nothing happens when I hit enter. Err..? Can anyone confirm?

I have just tested "Database Search Toolbar Demo (http://foosion.foobar2000.org/0.9/#dbsearch)" which has the "search as u type" feature for the database. It doesn't even take a second to search for an "a".

Please note :"Search as you type" now implemented without restrictions induced some significant code reorganization. Please consider this version as a beta and report any issue (or even correct behaviour) that I will fix promptly. I'd also like to know how this new feature behaves with large data bases.

first thoughts:

1. There's a 'ding' when I press ESC or when pressing ENTER (with or without found items in playlist)
2. Feature request (I think someone said it already): with 'Autosearch' and 'Inline search' enabled, could ENTER be remapped to playing focused item? (no need to press enter anyway)
3. Feature request: wouldn't be better when showing the dropdown menu (with Alt+down) to have history items, then separator, then preferences, options, etc. (just a thought ... according to my taste )
4. Feature request: autoselect previous search string (I rarely search twice for the same )
5. The 'error' color shouldn't stay that way ONLY when quicksearch toolbar is focused? (and reset to default color when not focused?)

That's what I used in the first place but this shiny version doesn't look great on a dark background, so I changed it.

On W2K and latest fb2k: If I start your plugin via menu or keyboard shortcut, the appearing window is about 5 times as high as the text area. There is a big grey area below the text field. It is not resizable.

Excellent.  I can confirm it's fixed.

When using query TITLE HAS "So in lov", I get "Someone in love" as well as "So in love" as a result.  Would it be possible to have quotes treated as full strings in extended mode, please?  People can always use ANDs.

The extended syntax is managed by foobar SDK since 0.9 so I have no way to change it except reverting to the source code I had in 0.8, which is not in my plans at the moment.

Thanks for reporting. "Set focus" is supposed to be inactive when autosearch is selected (unless you use the enter key). Should be fixed if you redownload from first post. (please confirm).

As you may or may not know, foo_uie_quicksearch was initially built from foo_uie_search source code (although most of the source has probably disappeared now, except maybe the core search loop), in which I found the following :

Well ... you can use the Escape key instead?

The thing is, after I press Enter and have the "focus results" option on, the panel has lost its focus and I have to use the mouse to close it. (or some tab action + escape)

Then use the key you mapped to the main menu entry for the toolbar + Escape.
Edit :Or better ... don't use "set focus ...." then escape alone will set focus.

I have slightly changed the way that the inline (playlist) selection works. It should now work like this :

• If you have not selected "Autosearch" and not selected "Reset searchstring when successfull", the selection should be cleared whenever the search string is changed (after typing a character), and a new selection is made when you hit enter (provided that your search is successfull).
• If you have not selected "Autosearch" and selected "Reset searchstring ...." the same behaviour applies and the searchstring is cleared anyway after a successfull search. The difference with the above situation is that (if your search is successfull) you will end up with a selection and a blank search string (because of the reset). To enable clearing the selection in this case I have added the Backspace Key to clear the selection.
• If you have selected "Autosearch" the selection is cleared only when nothing matches or when the searchstring is blank (Note that "Reset searchstring ..." is neutralized by design when "Autosearch" is selected).

It seems a bit complicated but I believe it should satisfy the requirement for managing together the selection and the searchstring in the most appropriate and intuitive way, given the possible combination of parameters.
Can you (or others) please redownload from first post and confirm/comment this behaviour? Latest versions Numbers are 2.8c and 1.5c. Thanks.

frankly.... I don't understand anything with this plugin anymore

In my mind it's as simple as that:
1. pressing enter should clear the search string
OR
2. at least (using the panel version myself) when hitting Control + S (my shortcut) it should select the string so one could just hit enter for the same search or begin typing for a new search (no need for backspace and stuff)

(just the first impressions ... I'll get back to this later)

This plugin is close to perfect. I have only one wish. Could you please add the normal border state (defined by msstyle) to the list. This border is only used by the 'playback order' dropdown and the playlist dropdown plugin at the moment.

I posted this once before. The border is not currently drawn according to the msstyle.

I am not sur I catched your request. What is msstyle? I use WS_EX_STATICEDGE or WS_EX_CLIENTEDGE extended styles, and that seems pretty standard to me.

Msstyle is the file where the theme information is. If you want to change themes on Windows XP you run a msstyle file. Sorry, I don't know what code to use.  Perhaps this border isn't possible on simple text boxes. Though there is ONE I've seen in Firefox. Other than that the border is only default for dropdown and combo boxes. You have no plans changing the text field to a combo box right? :/

One issue when searching in Database in conjunction with Autosearch: if you type a search string in the input field and then remove the letters one by one with Backspace or Del until the field is blank the whole database is displayed in the search results. Hmmm ... are you sure? At least with the latest version here no search is performed with a blank string. If you use the "Append search string to playlist name", the playlist name will tell you what is the last search that was performed. Can you confirm? Thanks.

you are right! I had disabled "Append search string to playlist name". So i thougt that the whole DB would be displayed if the input field was blank.

Now that the development of your wonderful plugin is almost to the end, if you ever start feeling bored.... why don't you have a look at QuickTag+SQL (now that Fermion has released the source code) and see if you, with your proved programming skill, can port it or build something similar from scratch?

If you're not feeling bored, you could take it as a challenge... maybe.

But I still have to press "J" two times if search is open, but not active (the first time closes it).
And also it would be nice to bind ENTER so that plays songs - now it just focuses on Foobar (you have to press it twice to play).

You can use the "Reset search string when successfull option" (and if needed recal your previous search from history).
The problem is that in the current implementation selecting the searchstring leads to problems when autosearch is active, beacause the string has to remain  for autosearch to work.

This plugin is close to perfect. So there are (for me) just two points or annoyments i like to mention:

1. In the newest version when you change the search domains from playlist to database and then back to playlist the command for inline search isn't checked anymore.

2. I am not so lazy that i don't like to hit "ENTER" two times for playing a track. But if your inline search highlights more than one track hitting "ENTER" doesn't play the track you've selected with up and down arrow buttons but the first of the highlighted selection. I hope that in a further release this could be changed. Absolutely great would be if we could use this foo_playlistfind typical behavior for autosearch in search result playlist: typing searchstring, selecting with up/down arrow buttons and playing selected track with "ENTER".

The behaviour depends on wether :

• Autosearch is active
• "Set focus to search results" is selected.
  In this case it is true that "Enter" will play the first track, but this is by let's say ... by design because once the focus is on the playlist area there is no way to control the selection (unless you reactivate the toolbar with the menu shortcut, in which case up/down arrows will still work.

In all cases, if the focus is on the toolbar, "Enter" will trigger the search wether Autosearch is active or not, and I am a bit reluctant to change it (Same action should produce the same results). So the way to mimic foo_playlist find is (provided that "Set focus to search results" is not selected): typing searchstring, selecting with up/down arrows, then "Escape"+"Enter" for playing the selected track.

If the toolbar has focus, could you make a button to quickly clear the input field. "Escape" would be the most intuitive choice for this action. afaik at the moment escape does the same as the enter button so it would be no problem to make it free for this action.

haven't used anything yet, should i? i have tried changing all colors under the appearnce settings to non-white, but the textbox is still white...

Try to remove foo_uie_quicksearch from your components folder, launch foobar once (and reply "no" when it asks if you want to keep the quicksearch settings), shutdown foobar, redownload quicksearch, relaunch foobar and let us know what is the result.

I suggest lodging a complaint to microsoft, unless you have other software or components that skin properly.  In which case, maybe telling the quicksearch dev' which components work will enable him to work something out.

Out of interest, would it be possible to make it visually more configurable, ie:

- Font
- Minimum height.
- Grey border that actually works.

As currently it takes up way more space than it needs to.

One request: I like the "Winamp MediaLibrary" Navigation... Your plugin combined with foo_browser results nearly in this workflow... When there would be a possibility to send the search results to foo_browser ui.
At the moment I do this by hand:
-> First seach via foo_uie_quicksearch
-> Right click on result playlist -> Button "Browse"

Than I can improve the "inexact" search result comfortable by browsing via foo_browser e.g. the albums. It's nearly the same like choosing in context menu "Quicksearch for same..." but a bit more comfartable.
When I could write some lines of C++ I would create this "Mashup" by myself, but so I'm constrained to ask you :-)

Likely most poeple switch from one phrase to another, when searching for songs. With this improvement, people will be able to search faster (there will be no necessity to remove old phrase).

For example, in my configuration, it would be simply:
Ctrl+K (to focus) -> rain (phrase) -> Enter (to play) -> Ctrl+K (to focus) -> shadow (to overwrite last phrase)

Just use "reset search string when sucessful."  It doesn't highlight the last typed entry, but it does clear the field and you'll gain the functionality you described above.

pressing enter will make you lose the results (i.e. no key up/down through the results)

This is an awesome plugin, gives a lot of flexibility back to the program without having to call up silly ugly windows all over.

Hmm, I'm running into an issue trying to test out the plugin - syntax errors and no files found are both treated the same way, so I can never tell whether the search pattern I'm trying to make is just not finding anything (having loaded only a small fraction of my media library so far) or if it needs reformatting. Can it just return a blank playlist if nothing matches? Especially since it won't let me save a favorite that currently matches nothing.

I'm also unclear on whether this allows you to save dynamic playlists or not. If so, that'll finally let me throw winamp away. So far I haven't been able to figure out how to get dynamic library views.

Hey, added some colour to it and figured out that I had to hit enter to clear the result. It's a nice plugin at the moment and I can't even remember what the name was of the search plugin I use to use.

Anyway would it be possible to include negatives in the search? Eg say I type in "artist1" in the search list every song by "artist1" will appear, can I then type in "-album2" so that all entries of album 2 will be removed from the list? I think I used to use database search and it did this quite well.

At the moment you will get [Blah Blah] if you empty the target playlist name in the preferences. I don't plan to change it.

Managing favorites (accessible from the toolbar icon) offers a kind of dynamic playlist management through the memorization of your favorites searches (including searchstring, searchtype, tagz string and eventually source playlist name) from the search history. It has to be activated in the prefs page (see history section), and iirc the "Recall overrides current settings" flag applies to favorite searches as well.
Note that a dynamic playlist capability is also provided by the foo_autoplaylist (http://www.foobar2000.com/components/foo_autoplaylist.zip) component since V0.9.

Im having a problem with this. I cant get the database search to work. The database search also does not work when i just use the database search window under "library". Do i have to turn the database on or something?

isn't there a way to make Quicksearch remember the playlist I started from so to be able to go back there at the end of the cycle?

That would be outside the scope of this plugin that I want to keep simple. However :

• cycling back to the current playing track/playlist is available in 0.8.3 with the  [main]/Playlist/Highlight Playing item menu entry (or double clicking the status bar)
• this option (works differently/does not work??) in 0.9 IIRC

The next change I envision is to reactivate the "undock" function that was broken/disabled in 0.9 compatible versions due to a bug (now fixed in v0.1.3 b1v6) in column_ui, but I am reluctant to do it, because it would induce creating a different version only compatible with  this b1v6, thus creating a configuration mess.

More generally speaking, I would tend to favor stability against new features ... and I am lazy at the moment for development (except if bugfixing is required) ... [sorry].

Thanks for the tip about highlighting the playing item. As I'm still on 0.8.3 (need a Quicktag SQL replacement) I'm sure it will work.

If you will ever find a way to stick out of your laziness and implement a custom "Search for same..." function, please consider letting us create composite filters (query) with more than one tag involved and have them avalaible on the keyboard shortcut list. I know it sounds against simplicity but it could become the most powerful searching tool, being able to have n queries under the remote controller keys. (Hope this last could challenge you a bit...)

I don't know if this is possible or if you'd even contemplate including the following feature. But this is my proposal for the basic "search type". Can you include the - operator like search engines have? I know I can achieve the same thing by using the extended search but it's tedious to switch to the extended search and type out an extended query when i could just type something like "marilyn -manson" with the dash as the not operator.

1. don't use 'change base' for adding - insert it as panel in a splitter (change base -> horizontal/vertical splitter)
2. you can find it at 'toolbars' (it's named 'Quick Search Toolbar')

1. When "Reset search string when successful" and "Autosearch" are both turned on, it would be better if it still resets the search string only when ENTER is pressed. This allows me to take time to complete my search AND enjoy the convenience of auto-clearing.

2. Is it posible to introduce some key combinations like shift-enter or ctrl-enter to send the search results to a new playlist? This saves me the hard labor of renaming the playilst to save the results from time to time. 

3. Could you add a "Normal" (non-skin) option for frame style? Cuz I'm using Tiger2 visual style and I'm quite happy with the default textbox style.

You mean when also autosearch delay is turned on?

I can second that: It is an annoying feature that also confused me at the beginning. Removing it would make things clearer (Reset only on ENTER) and also would avoid this two things:

1. When autosearch delay is enabled your search playlist will be created after you make the first pause although you had typed several words. In fact this is not autosearch any more (It just saves you from hitting ENTER).

2. When you type in one letter and make one pause a search playlist will be created and the search string is reseted. If you then type in the same letter the reset search string won't be reseted. That makes sense but causes confusion.

My suggestion for making search even faster:
I would like to have a keyboard shortcut that gives focus to the input field and clears it. That would be faster than selecting the text in it with the mouse button and pressing "del" on my keyboard.
I have found out that hitting "tab" key gives focus to the input field but I still have to clear it manually.

It was a bug! 

I really thought that behavior was meant as a feature. So i explained why you can type without a pause as many letters as you want with enabled autosearch delay. I can remember the discussion some months ago to apply autosearch when the first 2 or 3 letters are typed. That would make sense as the reason to use autosearch was a large database.

I usually use the quicksearch in my mega playlist, but sometimes want to make a different playlist, and it's a hassle to click and disable inline search, search and create the new playlist, and then click and enable it again. Well, maybe not a hassle, but if we're lazy enough that we need autosearch...

With the new $button2 implementation in the track_info_mod component I got an idea for a  feature request in your component. Right now I'm using track_info_mod's $button2 function to output the %artist% tag as a hyperlink to search for the same artist using your Quicksearch for same/Artist function. What I'd like to do is use the same idea to search for other tag values not supported by the current Quicksearch for same function.

In the above mock-up image, Mood would be a custom Quicksearch field, and the branch of Mood would be all it's multiple values contained in the Mood tag. Now one could access those with track_info_mod's %button2 function.

So in sum, my feature request is to allow users to specify custom Quicksearch for same fields, if possible.

I'm not sure it has to do with the SDK version. Please check this post (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=28647&st=3375&p=428656&#entry428656) and confirm/report again with detailed info about your config. (incl. colum_ui version) and crash log if any.

I'd like to know if other users are facing the same problem with Vista and if foo_uie_quicksearch itself is identified as the cause of the problem. Thanks for the information.

I'm on Vista RC2 and I get the same "bad allocation", sometimes.

It happens when the Tagz strings are empty and then pressing reset or add.
If I remove it, restart, add it, restart. Then all strings are back.


Same for the database search component, bad allocation there too.
And the Keyboard shortcuts is "empty" (Could not create preferences page: bad allocation), the key still works, thankfully, just can't add more.

Will test that unofficial build you linked to.
I'm already using that, hehe.

I know that post, it's where I read that compiling with the newer SDK version appears to be needed when using Windows Vista.

I get the following error when copying the foo_uie_quicksearch.dll file to my components directory and closing foobar. This only occurs the first time closing foobar after the installation of the component:

yep. I'm not sure how it's coded but, perhaps that's why it has a playlist switcher in it's context menu. I know that in the SDK there is an active and a playing playlist, but I don't really know how that works, I've never used the default layout and quite quickly gravitated towards single_column_playlist for it's $imageabs function. It seems to me that the active playlist is always the playing playlist with single_column_playlist, but I might wrong. I'll bring it up on the single_column_playlist thread.

Hello and thanks for making a great searching tool for Foobar.  I am impressed at its current capabilities and would like to know if the ideas presented in this thread (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=45133&hl=) could be added as an additional feature to the quicksearch plugin.

To be more specific I would like to know if it is possible to have quicksearch filter results in the current playlist instead of highlighting/selecting or adding items to a new playlist.  Filtering removes erroneous results so there is no need to skip past them allowing the user find what they are looking for faster.

As to how it could be implemented, so long as text is inside the search bar the playlist would remain filtered and once the text is cleared the playlist would revert back to normal.  Thanks.

Sorry if I'm asking something trivial, but how would I search for stuff that has, say, %play_counter% > 0 ? I tried using $if(), $greater() with $if(), nothing. Or I used it wrong.

Use the string '%play_counter% GREATER 0'.

some searches seem to work better without %, not sure why but make sure you're using the right field. There are 2 components and one uses play_count instead.

Just checked. I think the whole MISSING operator doesn't work. Just removed the title from a song, did a search on '%title% MISSING', and came up with my whole library (No, my library does have it's title tags ).

As wolfsong said, some searches work better without the %'s, I'm guessing <field> MISSING is one of them, as it works when you use title instead of %title%..

After you have switched to Database :

• If you want "Inline playlist search" then select it (it will automatically select "Search in ... Playlist")
• if you want only "Search in ... Playlist" (without searching inline) then select it ("Inline playlist search" will remain deactivated)

Great stuff, two issues though with 0.9,

1. How can I integrate the search box into the player? (Next to the search bar for instance).

2. Is it possible to make it act -exactly- like itunes search, searching in the playlist and importantly, showing all tracks in it when the search field is blank.

i want my playlists sorted by title which i have. But i want to seperate my autoplaylists from manual playlists. Any1 got a code for this?

Also how can i move the seperator? i have a playlists named "-" and it shows a:

Even if I type a simple "%artist% MISSING", searching the database, I'm still getting all the tracks with an artist too.

sorry, the post is too long to read it all, but i was looking for a component that could "filter" a playlist. So, for example, i'm looking at a playlist, and i write "salsa", i want the playlist to only show songs that include salsa somewhere. Can this do it?

Let me report a weird (for me) behaviour:

- I set up some buttons to trigger the "...same artist" ".. album" etc searches but, if I set them with the "Now playing item" as the item group (upper right pane in the actions window of the buttons customize dialog) and no tracks are playing, when clicking on the button FB crashes.
I think it would be better if the buttons customize window would filter the actions accordingly to the selections in the upper panes but I don't know if this is possible and who should do that.
So I'm just reporting it.

By the way, (and sorry to bother you again with this request) any chance to have those "Search for same tag custom presets?

Not at the moment, although both ideas are interesting ones.

Yeah, Q1 is a cool idea. Maybe you could compound to a search result by beginning queries with the + character. And then detract from the results with the - character. Just a thought.

Another question comes to my mind:

is it possible to search for some now playing info as to build our own "Search for same tag" without bothering you again?
[$playing(%tempo%)] or similar things.

Coupled with the "presets" list in the menus it would open new possibilities.
And the ability to change the "preset" names would also be needed, maybe.

Fabiosparks idea is nice. Me too was thinking about enhancing the functionality of "search result" playlist - but in
another direction:

1. Appending not only search string to its name but also search source (All playlists, "Playlist", database) and search method (match all,...)
2. Not replacing the old search result playlist but instead adding a new one - so that we can quickly generate playlists with pretty names (see 1.)
3. Search result playlists with same names will be replaced

In fact, if you, after a "x" search, deletes the space at the beginning of the name of the results playlist, on the next search that playlist won't be overwritten, even if you launch the same "x" search again.
Maybe, if there is room for that, some modifier key+enter would be the best way to tell QS to add instead of replace the result playlist.

I'm looking for a way to search for all items that have one value of a multi-value custom tag equal to the search string.

from the plugin help this should work:

%custom_tag% IS foo

if custom_tag is a multi value tag that contains "bar;foo;hello"

however it does not return result.

"%custom_tag% HAS foo" will retrurn result however it does a substring search ie it would also work
if the tag contained "bar;foobar;hello"

Have I missed something ?

I think when "Inline playlist search" is ON, QS stores in the Favorites also the name of the original playlist where the search was launched. When picking that favorite up, the new search is made in the original playlist (if existent) and not in the active playlist (if different).

It would be nice and useful being able to choose between this behaviour and the opposite for each favorites separately (same search string - different target).
This would reinforce the need for custom names for the favorites (preset search strings).

No but "search for same ...." mapped to a key or button would produce the same effect if tags were configurable

I have some problems with the entries in "search history" menu: The searches i do are sometimes listed in menu but sometimes not. And that seems to be accidental: I cannnot see f.e. that a special option or anything else is responsible for that.

if i try to search in vista for a song or artist foobar closes and i get this error. 2nd pic is another error i got when trying to search as well.

You are right: When autosearch is disabled that doesn't happen.

However, i am still wondering about this:

a) you have to wait although Enter is pressed

b) it is not just a few seconds but something about one minute after Enter is pressed. So if you in the meantime make another search the search string will be lost.

there is no crash log if u look at my original post i posted screen shots of the 2 errors i get.

with inline search enabled - is there any easy way to scroll down through the found items, ie currently inline search always just takes me to the first entry found..... perhaps there is an existing kb shortcut or something?

As per the info in the help section - using the up/down arrow keys does nothing - have tried in columns + single columns..

Sometimes I'd like to use Inline search to select tracks and then use the CRTL+SHIFT+HOME to move them to the top of the playlist but there is a little problem.
Even if I check "Set focus to search results" the shortcut does not work.
I tried right clicking on the selection and escaping the context menu before launching the shortcut, but it still doesn't work.
At least it still doesn't work correctly: it seems to move to the top only the tracks from the first selected to the one I right clicked onto.
In order to be able to automate the process, it would be nice not having to right click on the selection to make the shorcut work.

Do you mind having a look at it, if you find the time, please?

just an update i figured out the quicksearch does work fine the problem i was having was the dropdown menu plugin crashing when it tried to switch to the quicksearch playlist.

is it possible when you right click to chose say quicksearch for the same label, quicksearch for the same country In other words can I put extra commands to the quicksearch for the same ... . all my music has the label and country tagged so that is no problem...

I have a suggestion: An option to set autosearch delay only for the first x typed letters. Usually if you do a search you enter more than 3 letters. So often it is not needed that the search starts already with the first typed letter. But when starting the search after 3 letters the search would be much faster.

Not sure I got it but let's try.
Are you saying you can't remember all the field names you used in your tracks?
Then you can easily create a playlist with all your tracks, select them all and open the context menu properties window to see and write down all the field names.
If you are saying you are just too lazy to write them all down well, sorry I can't help.
If you say you have fields you didn't put there and don't care about, just wipe them out.
A tag is for carring info: if you're not interested in that info, kill it.

Its not that in to lazy, but my music collection is a old one, and i could idd look with foobar which tags ive used.

But the other way just would give me more satisfaction  But its good how its now.

Could a popup be implemented (or ported to another component) to display the results and make actions for the selected items to be added/enqeued in the active playlist, similar to the Winamp "Jump to" function?

It's nice to generate playlists this way, but for me it defeats the purpose of a continual play when i want to add a specific song.

foo_uie_search was only developped for Foobar 0.8 (... development was in a very primitive stage) and never existed for 0.9.2.1.

Can't get 2 instances of this component working at the same time. I have more then 1 display in panels UI and I need 2 instances, but i can only use it once.

Sorry if this question was asked already, but is there anyway to reset the search once it's completed? I have inline playlist search enabled, and the reset function just gets rid of the search once the enter button is pressed. I would like to go back to the original playlist when I'm done searching (like how iTunes or Windows Media Player handles it).

Edit: The problem seems to lie when the new playlist is put into focus. For instance, when I search for something and clear the query, I can get back to my library. Yet, whenever I search for something and click on a song in Foobar, I can't go back to my main library if I clear the search.

Is this a bug or by design?

Is there a way to play songs in another playlist? just the Default one I use for every mp3.

I second that. Another thing i would love is the possibility to have a button smaller than 20x16. Personally i don't put any image and it does take a hell lot of space.

hello i use quicksearch and tab playlist. foobar 0.9.4.2
i want that when i search some titles with the quicksearch and then press enter then makes a new playlist, when now i search somebody else and press enter it makes a new playlist.

also quicksearch."guano" then enter new playliste with # search result [guano], then a new search "rammstein" then enter a new playliste with # search result [rammstein], but the other search result should stay.

Does this plugin support the $replace() command for quicksearches?  I'm trying to use it to search for files that exist in other directories using the $cwb_fileexists() command EQUAL to "1".  It works when I don't use the $replace() command for field values, but not when I do.

I'm using $replace() to get rid of illegal characters in artist/album/title names, since that's how my collection is named.  It's custom using $replace() since I don't like all the _ that the file rename util creates by default.
