According to the post : http://www.chaostar.org/phorum/read.php?f=1&i=3892&t=3892 MPC version 1.06 has a quality issue compared to 1.02 and 1.7.9c

I found a particlar audio sample to have very noticeable problems with Klemm's 1.06 encoder that are not present in either Buschmann's 1.7.9c encoder or Klemm's 1.02 encoder. This is especially noticeable in the L-R (Stereo Difference) component of the sound. WAV and MPC audio samples are provided for you to listen and judge for yourself. You may find the results to be quite surprising.

He provides samples on this page : http://rvcc2.raritanval.edu/ktek9053/mpctest/

BTW : I do somehow question his method of finding artifacts but the difference is obvious even for me.

What do the more techie people out there think about this??

Well I think this quote from Kevin T. about 1.06 says it best:

"There is not much difference in the MPC audio to be heard with regular Stereo listening"

It seems to me that what he is doing to find this artifacting is taking a part of the sound out of context.  Kind of like people saying that joint stereo is bad for mp3.
