My personal audio test

I was searching for a bitrate that will be transparent for me at lower bitrate. I always encode my song to AAC at 256 kbps without doing any real abx test. So when I was searching for the lowest bitrate that can be transparent many people say that ~128 kbps AAC should be transparent but it doesn't look that way to me. So I encode one of my fav song to 4 different codec with different bitrate(making them become similar in bitrate is such a pain so just leave it there) so I would like to share the result of the test with all of you.

Apple AAC @ 203 kbps (5.87mb)

What would you describe is the problem with this track ?

I suggest to switch off all EQ ,DSP, resampling during the tests. Why are these on? Ive never seen this before.

DSP is needed for Opus since it doesn't support 44.1 kHz. All of those EQ is on the FLAT preset. All of the frequency is on 0dB so I don't think there's a problem occur because of it

All of them isn't as loud as in lossless and the bass also isn't that powerful as in flac

Its look like I can't edit my earlier post. So here another result of my listening test. This is the easiest than other lossy codec I've tested.

Hybrid Wavpack @ 200 kbps.

Thanks.  Do you think wavpack has the same bass issue ? @ 200k theres almost always added noise so its easiest to abx. 300k may be around 180k vbr of the others. The only artifact is hiss/noise floor.

I don't measure Wavpack based on Bass. I measure it based on the main guitar sound. Wavpack guitar sound artifact is too audible that I can hear it right away.

That artifact is gone in 320 kbps but it file size is similar to other lossy codec with the same bitrate
