EAC, DBPoweramp, Foobar2k, Etc All Returned Errors When Securely Rippi

Hi Guys,

Hope you can help me with this problem. I'm having a problem Ripping a CD Securely with Accurate Rip by any good reputable software like EAC, DBPoweramp, Foobar2k etc with the CD titled SLAPSHOCK: PROJECT 11-41 By EMI Philippines Copyright 2002. I can say this CD has NO COPY PROTECTION as it was not indicated in the CD packaging. There is only 1 session in it as seen by ISOBUSTER which has the Track Files so no 2nd sessions or data files. I bought 3 copies of this CD only to find out it has the same errors when ripping and tried 2 different CD Rom Drives. I also found out the gaps on the disc are weird or unusual. I have ripped a lot of my CDs securely, Test & Copy,  comparing with Accurate Rip successfully. I also have no problems whatsoever with my settings as Ive followed every set up guide for each Ripping Software. My problem is only with this particular disc. Hoping for your help guys. Thanks.

On this screenshot, it shows the gap on the Disc.

If you get the same result by THREE copies, then it is not unlikely that someone submitted a bad rip to AccurateRip. If you are paranoid, try a different drive.

BTW,

I can say this CD has NO COPY PROTECTION as it was not indicated in the CD packaging.

I wouldn't trust that on a 2002 release.

I've tried already different drives they produce the same results. I don't think this is an issue with Accuraterip, all I could think of is the discs they produce are faulty by design as to prevent me from ripping. But I can't find any Data session in the disc. I saw a line near the end of the disc,  like the ones they used on succeeding copy protections. Could that be the cause?

The confidence is only 1, so you cannot be sue it is your rip or the other guys which has the error.

But as shown in my log file. My Test & Copy CRCs are different and EAC aborted the rip at the end. I have no problems with Accuraterip actually, I'm having problems with my own rip with a new CD which I bought 3 copies already with the same result. I also tried this discs on different drives, it will give qme different Test & Copy CRCs and aborts the rip. Which is very unusual...

Yes, it could be; at least one copy protection scheme worked by intentionally destroying the CD's error detection/correction.
However, un-intentional manufactoring defects could also give similar phenomena, and if it is the pressing master that is defective, then every physical copy will have the same issues. However, they need not show up similarly for all users and all rips, as there is no standard way to settle whether a "0.5 with no sensible error correction information" should be a 0 or a 1.

Have you tried playing these CDs on your PC? i.e. on the actual drives you are ripping with, rather than just your hifi?

The only time I got wildly differing and inconsistent CRCs with Test & Copy was with copy-protected CDs. When playing the actual CDs in my hifi, they sounded fine, but on my PC there was a lot of background distortion/hiss. This distortion was also to be heard in the ripped files. The workaround in my case was to press "fast forward" in Winamp (or WMP etc.) repeatedly until the CD drive locked onto the audio layer correctly. Once it was playing fine on my PC, it would rip fine as well provided I didn't let the CD drive spin down for too long between playing successfully and ripping.
Hope this helps,

Bluto

Maybe EMI experimented on this release, actually they stopped producing this title and the titles after with clear copy protection.

Early defective-by-design CDs were not marked as such. The record mafia claimed these were the music CDs of the day. IIRC, some of them were even wrongly marked with the CDDA logo, until Philips' lawyers even sent cease-and-desist letters.

Maybe that explains it. But I really don't think there is a way for this CD to be ripped Accurately. It's sad..

Could be a manufacturing error... I had a case like this, where three brand new copies of a CD without any visible defects were unrippable. It was the bonus CD on this release. I ended up downloading a copy, and the AR record confirms that quite a lot of people had problems with it (notice the lower AR confidences on tracks 8 to 10, which is where my errors were too):
