volume control crackles: Asio2 / foobar

When Asio2 is used, regardless of whether 2.0 or 2.02 is used, it crackles when the Foobar volume control is set to Max, as with old, dusty, defective analog volume controls.
Tested with various Foobar versions up to the current 2.24.2.
A Matrix Dac X-Sabre Pro is used.
The effect with the scratching and crackling only occurs with Asio2, not with other Asio.
Another effect with volume changes and Asio2 is a fading effect when the volume is increased. Although no fading is activated.
This means that the volume continues to increase even though the slider is no longer being moved. This also only occurs with Asio2.

Any idea ???

I'm a bit worried that it will affect the speakers.

What is the reason for using foo_out_asio2?
I don't think it makes any sense at all.

I have selected various settings and extensions specifically for me and my devices.
This may not make sense for everyone.
But: It makes a very big sense for me :-)
Regardless, the described behavior of Asio2 should not occur, hence my post if there is any idea...
Unfortunately I posted in the wrong forum it should belong to components and extensions from other providers or similar.

However, I certainly understand that when components from different manufacturers and different versions are used, problems can arise or come to the fore.

But maybe there is a solution.

Foobar's functionality ultimately consists of components from different authors.

Does this refer to the following setting?
Preferences > Advanced > Playback > ASIO2

Are you able to play it cleanly using foo_out_asio2?
My FiiO K9 + Sennheiser HD 660S2 plays beautifully, but I can't tell the difference with foo_out_asio.
No problem.

Probably best to ask the developer.

Did you try to open a ticket on sourceforge?
This is where ASIO2 comes from as it's not part of fn2k components.

What does that mean?
It can be used as a component normally (it is recognized).
I installed it as instructed in "readme.html".
I have been testing for quite some time!

Yes, there is a clear difference for me that I am enjoying at the moment.
It may be possible to hear this more clearly via the Matrix x-sabre pro or similar DACs.

A different DAC chip ES9038PRO is used, which was also Implemented with very high-quality components on board.
I use it with good large floorstanding speakers.

But I like to try out possibilities and asio2 is one of them besides the standard foobar  which is undoubtedly also very very good!

That really is a good idea,
I will also try to ask there, but apparently nothing has been done there for a long time, the last Asio2 is from 05.2022.
I just thought that maybe someone already has a solution / idea.
I
The Foobar playback control with volume control via cell phone and http is incredibly handy, but if I were to buy a replacement for my DAC remote control, I could also use it to control the volume of the Dac, but that would always be an extra effort.

I see, it sounds like you're enjoying the great sound.
"Matrix x-sabre pro" I'm jealous. hahaha

Sorry, I will correct it.

As I mentioned above,
my FiiO 9,  S.M.S.L AL200, TOPPING D10s etc... has no problems.
It may depend on the model.

I hope I can somehow contact the developer.

But now to the volume problem:

After trying again it seems to be clearly a problem with the foobar preferences, playback, output, buffer length settings of the device (Asio) as well as the foobar replaygain.

With the playback output
Matrix Asio device, the output buffer length of 50 ms works perfectly! With the Asio2 device, on the other hand, a higher value is required, which significantly reduces the problems encountered. The automatic readjustment that occurs when the volume setting is changed is a problem in conjunction with the replaygain module in Foobar.

By the way, I noticed that 99% of foobar crashes only occur if the playback was not stopped, before any preferences change was saved. (Maybe it helps The Foobar Developer and the Users).

For me, the matter is closed here in the forum.
Thanks to everyone. :-)
