First, i'd like to congratulate Ivan for great work he did ( bravo majstore )

And now, some questions:

I have downloaded the latest version of Psytel AAC ( jan 31. 2002. ) and i normally encode @archive quality. i'd like to know what's the profile thingy?
All AAC's i have are LC profile, are there any better profiles? Thanx

Ok, latest AACenc and OggDec beta versions uploaded.

Now, I'm going back to the beach. Stop bothering me :-P

AACEnc 2.12 has experimental quality controlled VBR mode:

-qvbr N

where N could be in the range from 0 to 100

This is very experimental switch, and there are several issues:

1. It does not support Intensity Stereo, and so it is very hard to compare very low bitrate modes with Ogg with Fake Stereo (intensity stereo will save 15-25% of the bitrate, but with losing phase information)

2. It is still not designed for "audiophile" quality, and quality of 100 will give 140-170 Kbps files

3. It is not optimized, and still experimental (did I say that already?)

Have you been doing other optimizations in general, besides the "experimental quality controlled VBR mode"?

When I read this thread, I decided to download the newest version, v2.12 and compare it to an aac created from a January '02 version of aacenc. Using a ripped wave of Richard Marx's Hazard, I encoded with only the -normal switch, which is what I always use.

Both sounded the same to me but I notice that the newer version produces slightly smaller files. For example, The Jan '02 edition of aacenc I used produced a file 6,481kb in size, while version 2.12 produces a file 6,147kb in size.

Maybe it is just that particular track. I just did the same thing with "Duel Of The Fates", by John Williams, and it is the same size as the original.:confused:

qhy dont yuo se if the bits are the same by running some CRC32 check on both files and see if the checksum is the same
