Title: DTS Core vs. DTS MA; any ABX tests?
Post by: gib on 2013-05-11 06:28:09
Greetings,

Has anyone ABXed, successfully or not, the lossy DTS core against the lossless DTS Master Audio track?  I searched around but haven't turned up anything, so I'm just wondering if anyone who has been more in the loop recently may know something I don't.

I've somewhat recently begun ripping the blurays I own to my NAS for easy archival and viewing.  In my small testing I can't seem to hear any difference despite the huge increase in bitrate, but I always like to gather as much information as I can before making a decision.  Plus, I'm very curious.  heh

DTS is a simple lossy format with only limited compression. Given its simplicity and high bit rate I suspect abx will be difficult unless the encoder is very buggy.

That was my general thinking as well.  Thanks for the response.  =)
