is it something compareable to cddb or freedb ?

i think some guy is working on a freedb plugin.

MusicBrainz system is based on an acoustic fingerprint of the first 30 seconds of the audio. It takes about a third of that time to scan a file on my crappy 1GHz Celeron box. Check Relatable's site for a fingerprint generating tool to get an idea of how fast/slow the process is. I never found it too useful because they don't seem to have most of my music in their database. Guess they only have mainstream stuff.
