Open Music in a "Now Playing" Playlist Only?

Is there a way to implement a "Now Playing" list like how MediaMonkey has? This means that, for example, when you load a playlist from the Playlist Switcher, or open files externally, they'd be loaded into the Now Playing list before playing them. Why you ask? Because playing music directly from the playlist exposes it to unwanted modification.

My first idea was to have a Playlist Panel that only shows the one playlist's contents, so that I can just drag a playlist from the Playlist Manager onto it, but I don't know how to implement this. In the meantime, having a separate playlist that I open before loading any files is what I'm doing; I can't drag from the playlist manager onto it as it immediately loads said playlist.

Try Keep Queue plugin. It works for me: https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_keep_queue
I thought using the queue with something like Queue Contents Editor was the answer but apparently the queue only takes 64 tracks, which is really nothing compared to the sizes of my playlists.
If there was a panel I could add that shows a playlist's contents, & it only showed a single playlist's contents at all times, that would really be all I need.

What do you mean exactly?

You could use Playlist Attributes to lock various aspects of playlists from any changes.

Or browse the library using the Library Selection playlist (DUI) or Filter Results (CUI).

To get to the question though, ESPlaylist can pin a specific playlist, to always show it regardless of the active playlist.

Cheers

Accidental deletion or changing of order of songs in the playlist, accidentally queuing songs into the playlist, stuff like that.

I will use this to further secure my playlists from unwanted changes, thanks. Reading the documentation, it seems a few of its functions have been made default settings in foobar but the options might come in handy in the future.

Sorry, I don't see how this applies to the functionality I'm after.

I tried this yesterday. I'm trying it now and though there are settings that I thought would freeze its view to a single playlist while I messed around in other playlists in another view, that wasn't the case: it just follows whatever playlist is selected, whatever the default playlist is viewing, it views.

Cheers though!

Well I was not too sure how you use the library. :)  You said you were opening a separate playlist before loading files - using the Library Selection playlist loads tracks into itself automatically from the library when you select something. (For DUI, Library menu > Configure > under Library Viewer Selection Playlist)

It has a few modes. To pin a playlist, right-click on EsPlaylist > Playlists menu and switch off whichever of the top three options is on (disable 'Follow Active Playlist'), then enter that menu again to select the playlist to pin. So with EsPlaylist in a separate panel to your main playlist viewer, it always shows the one playlist.

Cheers

Thank you anamorphic for your help.
Just to close the topic, I found myself satisfied with locking the playlists using Playlist Attributes. Now if I want to experiment with playlists I just make a new one and mess around in it, instead of having what was functionally a "desktop/scrap" playlist.
If I ever want to continue down this line though, I'll know where to look.
