Title: Exact Audio Copy: File creation Error
Post by: NinoWeiss on 2019-05-25 10:07:18
Hi,

I'm so glad I found this Forum. Thank you in advance for any help with this:

I use EAC for years and never had any trouble with it. I didn't change anything to the settings, nor to the PC (except probably automated updates for Windows 10) and suddenly I get a "file creation error" each time I try to copy a CD. It does so always on the first track and aborts.

Here's the log:
Code: [Select]

1 track(s) not fully ripped for AccurateRip lookup
 8 track(s) canceled

No tracks could be verified as accurate

There were errors

End of status report

All CDs?
What are your settings for
EAC > EAC Options > Directories (tab)
EAC > EAC Options > Filename (tab) > Naming scheme
Can you post a full extraction log (see pic)?

Make sure your CD has both a CD artist and album title otherwise EAC chokes making a file name.

Hi, thanks. I made sure it had these fields filled in, but to no avail, still "file creation error".

So I went through these threads but couldn't find anything to relate to.

The settings are as follows:
EAC > EAC Options > Directories (tab): "Ask everytime (Default showing last used directory)
EAC > EAC Options > Filename (tab): %tracknr2% %title%

Here is the full extraction log:

All CDs?
Or just this one?

F:\Music\-\etc\Tzadik\Radical Jewish Culture\TZ 8130 Secrets - Feldman, Caine, Cohen, Baron\01 Lubavitcher Nigun.wav
Unclear if you have a folder named "-", you edited something out or ...
I'd try shortening the path all the way down to "F:\Music"
You can always move the files if it rips.

All CDs suddenly. I didn't change anything for years in this setup and the settings but seemingly out of the blue it says "file creation error"

No this folder "-" exists (also for years - and works well)

I tried that. I also tried to move it to a different drive...

I also uninstalled it and installed it again. Could it be a Windows 10 update? Something with file permissions (I tried a few things but that too didn't help).

I also uninstalled it and installed it again.
Did you also clear the registry settings?
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\AWSoftware\EACU
Each plugin also has settings data saved in the registry in different locations but I wouldn't think they would matter.

I've had permission and sharing settings change after a version update.
You would receive the same type of error trying to save files to a location that the program doesn't have permission to write (like C:\) but you said you already tried saving to a different location.

Permission seems to be the culprit. When I changed location, I still used the same drive. Now, I changed drive and it works. Now I have to figure out how to change permissions. "Run as administrator" doesn't help. Left click > properties and then enabling "Write" doesn't do anything either... Have to investigate

Do you know how to get the permissions right for EAC to work properly?

Thank you all for you help. Thanks korth for your advice with the permissions. I git it now working. I set permission at the root.
