Off-Topic / Re: Essential Software
Last post by DonaldStad -
Listed programs didn't dissapear anywhere from what I can tell...

But a bit more seriously - hey, it's a good thing, means that needs of many computer users are fulfilled quite good, at least in the confines of current UI paradigm.

Low level of activity in this thread is also a byproduct of the fact that, thankfully, we menaged to stop turning it into "post what software you use" (which would be useless/impossible to browse), instead usually trying to post things only if they weren't mentioned yet. Makes it much more clear and useful.

And with having in mind making this post more useful, few small essential apps that I've come to use (after checking they weren't mentioned via "Search Topic" function of course  )

SMPlayer - how on Earth I haven't mentioned that... (been using it for quite some time) For me it's essentially "foobar of video" - very nice (but simple) frontend to MPlayer, very light, fast, low on CPU usage, not relying on Windows/dshow codecs and beeing able to play basically any format (especially after simply copying, no installation required, Binary Codec Package from MPlayer homesite )

SpeedFan - as above, how I couldn't mention it for so long... Very light, no-bloatware, system temperatures, fan speeds and HDD S.M.A.R.T. monitoring app.

Duplicate Files Finder - does what its name says; and indeed, when compared with few other apps I've tried, its speed claims seem well grounded. Plus it's also very non-bloatware style app.
thanks

Does this VST dsp work with more than stereo?
Should work. Do you know any specific VSTs that fail?

I tested  two upmix VSTs and while the gui of the VSTs shows that they work only the left and right channel is in the output.

Hello,

Same here. No signal from rear, center and LFE channels of (at least one) 5.1 upmix VST with no error reported. Upmix VST was working fine with old VST component. (Foobar 1.6.16 and VST component 0.11.7). Thanks for your work BTW.

Cheers.

I gave it a try again but the problem is still the same.  With stereo input there is only stereo output.

%playback_time_remaining%:   Remaining playback time, formatted as [HH:]MM:SS. Available only in contexts where playback related data is displayed, such as statusbar. Not available when duration of currently playing track is not known.

%playback_time_remaining_seconds%:   Remaining playback time, in seconds, formatted as integer. Available only in contexts where playback related data is displayed, such as statusbar. Not available when length of currently playing track is not know

Usage of these depends on where you would like to show the values.

3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: foo_vis_spectrum_analyzer

Anyway, I'm happy you are investigating. It's quite easy to spot when you put your scaling to 125% and display a 6ch peakmeter.
I removed the rounding code. All math is done in DIP not pixels. If you think about it: rounding the values before giving them to Direct2D prevents it from choosing the correct pixel when it's time to create the final picture.

225 DPI with 7 bars and gauge gap of 1 DIP renders correctly now AFAICT.

Good to know it now renders correctly. Can you point me to the version/beta of your plugin that renders correctly with different windows scaling?

I attached a screenshot from the 0.8.0.0beta1 for windows scaling 225%, 6ch, barwidth 11, gauge gap 2, no legend. Should be using 6x11 + 5x2 = 76 pixels. Included in text is my calculation of the required panel width and underneath are actual panel widths being used for your plugin and the old peakmeter spectrum (both being 76px).

On the left is your plugin and on the right a peakmeter spectrum (which is not aware of windows scaling) with hardcoded barwidth 11 and gauge gap 2.

As you can clearly see 0.8.0.0beta1 does NOT render the intended peakmeter correctly since it makes the barwidth incorrectly 1px smaller.

EDIT: For reference I included the same screenshot for windows scaling 100% which does render perfectly. 200% en 300% are correct as well of course.
