Lame and Outlook problem

Here is an odd problem that I haven't seen discussed:

An MP3 file created using Lame 3.92 or 3.91 will not show up in the recepient's e-mail in Outlook XP. Actually, the file will show up; but with no filename or extension. All the end user will see is the MS-DOS icon and a filesize in parenthesis....no filename. Very odd problem. When I use a different encoder such as the crappy Xing encoder, the problem goes away. The problem also vanished when I changed to the Lame 3.93 dll.

Any ideas?

in outlook xp you can't attach binaries [*.exe ...] to an email in default configuration. it's the new M$ virus protection  maybe that's the reason for your problem.

Across the net, I've many times encountered problems with certain services at accepting certain filetypes.

But what never seems to fail is putting the file such as the MP3 in question into a ZIP archive and sending that.
