[Moved per TOS #6] Burning flac files to dvd disc that are played with computers drive?

What is the best method/software for burning flac files to dvd disc that will be played on a computer DVD RW drive?
If I copy the files directly without burning using a program that supports gapless playback, The computer drive's noise between tracks drives me nuts (startup noise).
I suppose another option would be to buy a quieter drive or dvd player but seeing how my drive is actually quiet while playing tracks, I would like to a avoid that if possible.

Recommendations?

I got several DVD drives and they all were loud when reading just files. One LG drive had special option, that caused that drive was silent during CD Audio and DVD Video playback but that's all. Even this one was loud when reading just files, as it tried to be as fast as possible, same as all other. The only serious  alternative is to play those files from USB stick if for any reason you can't store them on HDD. It will also make updating contents of such carrier easier and quicker.

I have my files stored on external hard drives but I also want some of my music on disc so I have the option of playing them in other dvd or universal players.
The thing is if I play a regular store bought music cd in my computers drive it transitions between songs quietly without the fast spinning noise, it only does it with music files copied to a dvd disc. I have not tried using burning software but I don't really want gapless playback. It would be nice if software like nero or roxio would burn the files by filling in the empty spaces between tracks without sound so it read the files as a single file but there would still be gaps between tracks (if that makes sense), maybe burning software will do that? I don't have enough experience burning music files to know how things work.

Which brand/model of DVD drive are you using? (And what OS?) Some brands have their own free software for limiting read speeds, like Nero Drivespeed (might work on any brand?)

You might also find a freeware solution, like CD Throttle. [Link] Note: I have not tried any myself so cannot be sure they work. The trouble is the read /write speeds are controlled by the drive firmware.

I think every drive no matter the brand will spin up to full speed (like 24x) when reading data discs. Only CD audio (redbook) discs would normally play at 1x speed. DVDs will be data discs I think, unless you are burning DVD audio/video. Therefore I tend to think it would make no difference how you burn the files (or one single FLAC file instead of multiple), but then, I'm not that experienced myself with burning discs. Perhaps someone else can help there.

Best of luck 8)

Problem with drive producing loud noise has nothing to do with gapless playback. Because

Gapless playback is the uninterrupted playback of consecutive audio tracks, such that relative time distances in the original audio source are preserved over track boundaries on playback.

read the files as a single file
Use image+cue instead of separate tracks.

Or, you can use foo_ramdisk to load whole album (or even several albums) into memory before playing.

1) This doesn't belong in any of the fb2k forums.

2) I am all but certain you will not be able to do what you're trying to do.  Use a USB stick for the computer.  They are small and cheap. Use a burned DVD for other applications.

3)

This makes zero sense.

1: I beg to differ. Since I use foobar2000 as a media player that plays my music files it does have a place in the foobar forums. No one complained when i asked about adding foobar to autoplay settings so was that a foobar question or a Windows question?

2: that is why I asked. People generally do not ask questions they know the answer too. If I was happy using a usb stick I would not have asked the question.

3: it makes no sense to you perhaps but I was trying to make a point which I did not explain very well, not that it is a possible thing to achieve.

Lastly, if this post does not belong in the fb2k forums it can be removed, I am totally fine with that.

Thank you for the useful reply. I am currently trying Nero Drivespeed and it seems to be doing the trick. I can now listen to my music on DVD disc without the read speed noise between tracks.

My thinking was since my drive is quiet during the actual playing of a track, album recorded without gaps or as a single file would also be quiet. It was the gaps in between tracks that was producing the read speed noise, not actual playback.
Now that i am using Nero Drivespeed it set the read speed to 1 so there is no more noise between tracks. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Your questions are specifically about drives and burning.  Maybe I'm confused.  Please explain why you think fb2k might solve your problem.

Apples and oranges.

Done.  After reading your subsequent posts it looks like you found something that works.  Would you agree the solution you've found best fits the "CD Hardware/Software" forum?

It is not worth arguing about, partly because it is a trivial matter and mainly because you are correct. It does belong more in the CD hardware forum, my bad and my apologies.

You're right, it's not a point I should have pressed.  I do understand that you're asking trying to solve a specific problem which has nothing to do with a USB stick. I apologize for pushing a method that I would personally prefer, especially since there was a solution.

And I understand your concern for posting relevant questions in the foobar forum, it cannot be a free for all or you would have people talking politics, religion and other crap that does not belong.
Thanks for your understanding greynol and enjoy the rest of your day.
