FFmpeg 2 questions

Hello two quetsions here:
1st - can I tell FFmpeg to use directshow decoder for any input video format ? if not is there another, similar transocde tool featuring this?
2nd - can I tell FFmpeg explicitly to embed to output video specific subtitles, such as .srt (if no, another tool?)
my requirements are to be that a command-line tool so that I can call it from other applications unattended.
