New type of Portables on the Horizon

Announced recently at IFA 2003 in Berlin, Nextway will be selling portables with USB host capabilities. It will have no memory of its own, but will use its USB port/external readers to access smartmedia cards, memory sticks, compact flash, external HDDs, and more. Retail price is planned to be around 50,000 KRW, or approx. 42 USD. Vorbis firmware is planned to be released in November, according to Yonhap News Agency (Korean) and a Nextway news article (Korean).

Googling will get you some stuff in German. With memory getting cheaper and cheaper, I think this is pretty neat.

edit: typo fixed.

Sounds like a semi-cool idea, but (except for USB memory sticks that plug in directly) won't this decrease portability?  Unless I'm missing something, who wants to cart around some additional stuff to hook to the unit's USB port?
