Title: Analog VU Meters
Post by: Sebastian Mares on 2005-05-10 15:04:04
Hi!

Are there any analog VU meter visual plugins for fb2k?

Regards,
Sebastian

foo_vis_vu_meter (http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~uzbs/fb2k/html/#vumeter) is the only VU meter for foobar2000 that I know of, though I'm not sure what you mean by analog. (Last time I checked the source code seemed pretty digital. )

Screenshot (I guess I should add that one on the above linked page):

That would make a cool panel.
I'm no programmer, but I'd imagine one could do something like that rather easily.

Agreed. The one that comes with vuplayer are maybe one of the coolest bits of useless feature I've ever seen...

(Usless in not in a negative sense, but it is after all mostly a piece of eyecandy, and it bumps the size of his install considerably...)

This maybe old info but try - [a href="http://sites.google.com/site/foobar2000components/home/vumeter]http://sites.google.com/site/foobar2000com...ts/home/vumeter[/url] - you'll probably need translation. It works well and produces large accurate VUs. You alter settings in Preferences/ Advanced.

This looks great onv. And there is an editor for it too ^^.
But i'm a bit unsure about:
The component is written in Pascal, WITHOUT using the foobar2000 SDK.
Couldn't that cause a problem towards compliance with foobar itself?

Got this working without much trouble, despite the Cyrillic, but can anyone tell me how to change the skins?  I even tried deleting all but the one I wanted, without success.
Thanks,

Just put your *.bin with the file foo_vis_vumeter.dll. Choose from several options - right & left flip (left mouse button hold + right button click).
Or File -> View -> Visualizations -> Analog VU Meter -> right mouse button on window

Interesting.

Compared to the built-in VU meter, the analog VU meter pegs at -20dB. Is there a level adjust somewhere? (Just for grins, I disabled ReplayGain)

Ah, yes. I tend to believe the warning at the top of the advanced page, but yes that works.

Every answer spawns new questions. I have replay gain set to -11, so it I set VU meter to 11, then the meter should always top out at 0dB. However, I am inclined to use some EQ, and since the VU meter is the last thing in the chain (apparently), it will go red if I have sufficient boost. (Please no philosophy about boost/cut in EQ. I know!) So should I set the VU meter to 0 and then anything above 0dB would indicate clipping?

You can, for example, include in the VU-Meter peak LED and set it up exactly to the threshold for the 0dB

It'd be nice if VU Meter PreAmp would get values from Replay Gain from files being played.

What's more, I made myself a skin that can't be set properly, because it has two channels at ones. If I mark Left+Right it doubles like that.

Also tried splitting this image in two and put two instances og VU Meter side by side showing different channels. One for Left and second for Right. Unfortunately, both of them displayed the same one. When I change the setting in one, second VU Meter albo changed. I wish they were independent.

Any chances to have a solution for any of these issues/offers?

Rename left bin to bla-bla1.bin and right to bla-bla2.bin and put your both *.bin with the file foo_vis_vumeter.dll

AFAIK foobar2000 sends audio data to vis plugins after RG correction and DSP plugins.

Mine quickly shoots up and just stays on +3 most the time.

I don't get clipping so shouldn't it peak at 0 ?

What settings to people use for preamp and the mouse wheel dB ?

Cool. Maybe full scale LED is excessive for the analog VU-meter, it is enough bandwidth (or single LED) for levels >=0dB in order not to disperse the attention between the arrow and LEDs

Why DUI only ?
Think, perhaps, there is a sense in the mid-hight between the channels to draw a text scale (-20  -15  ....) ?

information about the excess of 0 dB LED provides color and changing the dynamics of the mean color of the solid line. Sam engine plugin provides optimal curve luminous scales. I think the numbering of the scale away from 0 dB is unnecessary... decor

DUI...? it's my favorit

The VU meters have stopped working. They display fine, but no needle movement. The meters were working, now they don't. the only change I made was upgrading to FB1.1.13, but have the same results with 1.1.10.  Same result in DUI and CUI. I uninstalled the component andTreinstalled it with a fresh download. No help. The only DSP I am running is the SoX resampler set to 96K, but removing this made no difference.

Any hints?

I had the same problem. It appeared to happen after the computer went to sleep while fb2k was still open, although I'm not sure. In any case, I went to the <foobar2000>\Configuration folder and deleted the foo_vis_vumeter.dll.cfg file. Voila, the file was rebuilt when I started fb2k back up and the meters were working again.

I'm trying to get hold of these 2 VU Meter skins from here (http://foobar2000.0pk.ru/viewtopic.php?id=392):

The download site (http://www.onlinedisk.ru/) that hosts them has been down for quite a while.

Anyone happen to have them?
Would be nice to get hold of them.

Cheers,

Sorry, that's touch PAD, not touch SCREEN. When I right click on the meters, I get the "Layout"pull-down menu. When I right click on any of the options, nothing happens. When I left click, the menu goes away. This could be a problem with my computer. I will have to load up and try it on a desktop.

Title: Analog VU Meters
Post by: spuuunit on 2014-09-22 14:34:30
I have made spunittest1.bin and spunittest2.bin and placed them in foo_vis_vumeter. in foobar, "spunittest.bin" shows up. When I then click spunittest I get this message:

How am I to do to display one Left meter and one Right meter beside each other?

Has anybody got the VU Meter to show visually on foobar2000 under linux using wineHQ?

If found a solution:
To use VU Meter with wine it is necessary to install libxcomposite

The Klanghelm VST one is great, and the ballistics follow my real VU meters extremely closely with a bit of tweaking. Will need to use it with a VST to FB2K wrapper component though.

I really like this plugin and the various analog VU meters!
I would like to use them as well when streaming via foo_out_upnp to a media renderer. However, here the VU meter does not show the signal (same with Milkdrop).
Does anyone have an idea how to activate the VU meters even for upnp?

hi thanks for the reply
I have tried the default (auto gain on, L & R 16 db & rise 0.2) and how it was shown on the additional vu's i downloaded (auto gain off, L & R 15.5 db & rise 0.3)

anything else I can try or is there any dependencies that maybe missing on win10?

Try mouse wheel in the VU meter panel. Set value to +10db for example.

Put a tick in the "Automatic gain control" and apply.

Hi boys,
can anybody tell me how to make Analog VU Meter (any) independent from opened foobar2000 windows?
I'd like to close foobar2000 window but VU meter will be still working in it's window. Thanks many!

This one is great too, plugin or standalone versions, Win or Mac, not free though:
