Youtube won't encode to OGG

Hi. I've found that many videos on YouTube have OGG stream available. But I can't get it, uploading my own video to the service. Compare the available streams for random video from YouTube and for my video:

Why does it happen? How to force OGG and HQ WebM encoding???

To my knowledge there isn't a way to force Youtube to encode to specific formats.  I do know they have changed their encoding standards many times,  so it's possible they had previously encoded to Ogg, but no longer use it for new uploads.

Also,  how long are you waiting after the upload before checking the formats that are available?  YouTube doesn't finish the encoding for all formats at the same time, some finish and become available before others.

YouTube does not use Ogg at all. Vorbis is used in WebM.

A difference between the two videos is that the Dayton Football-video is available in VP9/Media Source Extensions, whereas Test 4Kff is not. That is also why only ”WebM 360p” (with VP8) is listed. Popular videos/channels are prioritised for VP9-encoding.

So this takes place, well, thanks. But how much popular the channel have to be? Is there some documentation describing this terms?

I was going to test youtube audio encoding quality, and I found out that it uses something like FhG AAC for the audio stream. But then I was surprised that on other videos there are Vorbis streams also...

I haven’t seen any such documentation, it is only what people have noticed when using YouTube, see for example Doom9.

Just published my test video on youtube. Will try to get >1000 views. I see that on my channel most of popular videos has VP9 streams, but there are few videos with >1000 views but without VP9. It's strange... Looks like here is some random factor or something we don't know...

Anyway, now I'm sure thet popularity of the channel isn't enough.

Using youtube-dl, I got this list of available formats for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4C82eyhwgU

Code: [Select]
format code extension resolution  note
171         webm      audio only  DASH audio , audio@ 48k (worst)
140         m4a       audio only  DASH audio , audio@128k
160         mp4       144p        DASH video , video only
242         webm      240p        DASH video , video only
133         mp4       240p        DASH video , video only
243         webm      360p        DASH video , video only
134         mp4       360p        DASH video , video only
244         webm      480p        DASH video , video only
135         mp4       480p        DASH video , video only
247         webm      720p        DASH video , video only
136         mp4       720p        DASH video , video only
248         webm      1080p       DASH video , video only
137         mp4       1080p       DASH video , video only
17          3gp       176x144
36          3gp       320x240
5           flv       400x240
43          webm      640x360
18          mp4       640x360
22          mp4       1280x720    (best)

Using MKVToolNix, I created MKA-files from 171 and 43, and MediaInfo gives this information, identical for the two files:
Code: [Select]
File size                                : 2.22 MiB
Duration                                 : 2mn 26s
Overall bit rate mode                    : Variable
Overall bit rate                         : 127 Kbps

Exact sizes of the MKA-files:
43: 2 327 563 bytes
171: 2 327 575 bytes

Appears that identical settings were used for the two Vorbis-encodings.
