Play DSD Multichannel on MacBook Air

I’ve tried the new Foobar2000/DSD capability on Mac with foo_input_udsd-0.0.3 and foobar2000-v2.7-
2024-07-08  and 2 channel DSD works great.  I have an exaSound e38 DAC and am unable to get multichannel DSD content to play correctly.

 When I set the Audio Midi Format on the Mac to “8 ch 32-bit integer 176kHz” and I play multichannel DSD, the bitrate on the DAC displays, 176.4kHz and all I get is hissing and very faint music in the background so it seems that the DAC is not seeing the stream as DoP.

As a test, using the same equipment and the trial version HQPlayer and setting HQPlayer to output DoP. HQPlayer takes control of the Audio Midi and changes the format to the proper number of channels and 176.4kHz and I get DSD (both 2-channel and multichannel) playing through the system with the DAC displaying 2.82MHz.

I’ve been in touch with the author of foo_input_udsd-0.0.3 and am wondering if anyone else has tried multichannel DSD on their Mac and if they are successful.

Have you tried the "Tools => DSD => Input => Preferable Area => Multichannel" setting?

Yes.  I have Tools/DSD/Input (Preferable Area) set to Multichannel.  That setting only dictates what type of files get imported to your playlist if you're making the addition with a .iso file.  Multichannel presents multichannel files (if available), Stereo, presents only 2-channel and None presents both multichannel and 2-channel to your playlist.  Outside of which format is presented (stereo or multichannel) it has no bearing on how Foobar2000 processes/plays the files.
